I cannot tell you how many physical issues I've had thru the years from elbow to foot that these guys have solved and resolved for me. They're a public treasure.
When your local doctor is closed cuz of COVID and you have to diagnose yourself lol. This is the best and closest thing I've found about my foot pain yet. Thanks guys.
I've just found this video and it's exactly the same pain I have. So thank you. I've starting using deep freeze, a d it helps. But I'm going to try these exercises. Thank you
hey ,if anyone else wants to discover exercise for shin splints try Mackorny Run Fast Blueprint (do a search on google )? It is an awesome exclusive guide for getting rid of shin splints without the normal expense. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my mate got amazing success with it.
OH MY GOSH THANK YOU SO MUCH I had been in pain for weeks and it was driving me crazy. Did research and found your site. I did the message therapy, after a few message sessions daily for a few days the pain stopped. Also I did hear popping noise as I messaged. Thank you thank you for your suggestion. You two are the best. Be safe and healthy.
I have mild CP and I am enjoying learning about this weird muscle that no one ever told me about, so keep up the videos on the anterior tib! I can walk five miles and do hours on the stair master, but I cannot walk on my heels. Right now I’m exploring ways to just feel this muscle at all. Thank you for all that you do!
I broke my ankle years ago, sprained and twisted them I don’t even know how many times. I’ve been having pain just like you said and even seen the dr a few time and they never told me what it was. I’m so glad to know what’s going on! Thank you so much for giving me some tips on how to help the pain!
I have had this pain my whole life. It happens to me when my ankle is cold or I have walked too much that day. It is happening now. When this pain is at it's peak, I cannot move my foot or toes at all. No doctor had ever been able to tell me what this pain is. Thank you so much for explaining it to me. Love from Adelaide, South Australia
I thoroughly enjoyed this video! I loved the ease of the presentation, enthusiasm, the camaraderie and most importantly I learned alot too! Keep making more videos like this one.
I’m a 33 year old relearning how to skateboard. Every other day is recovery and I’m beginning to know both you two and the human anatomy. Great content.
This really helped me. I don't have an incline board, but I stretched in the same manner by putting my hands on the bed and walking back until my calf stretched out. Instant relief. Thanks.
I have been struggling with this exact pain for the past two months and my general practitioner basically just told me to rest it, and when the pain didn’t go away he told me to just rest it some more. No other advice, and wouldn’t send me to a specialist or do any further testing. I have been in such tremendous pain that no amount of resting has made better. For the first time in two months, I’m not in pain because of that massage technique!!! Thank you SO much!!!!!!
I’ve had this tendinitis in my ankle for the last four months and two months of inactivity didn’t help I tried their technique but it didn’t alleviate the excruciating pain for the first quarter mile Are you still free of pain since the last time you wrote? My MRI showed tendinitis Is this what you had?

8 years of benign foot swelling, ekgs, dvt tests, blood work, heart monitors. And this. This is what was causing the swelling in my foot. The pain didn’t start until this year but for 8-10 years it’s constricted without me knowing
Thank you Bob & Brad! Many of us have injuries during this difficult time (COVID-19). Can’t go to physical therapy or were scheduled for surgery’s now delayed indefinitely. You have helped me recover from numerous overuse issues related to running, hiking, nordic walking etc. You 2 are better than any of my so called specialist-please know that I reside in an elite medical community- and believe me, I have access to the best- not one of my Doc’s have spent the time or have explained treatment as thoroughly as you 2 have. Not to mention the terrific practical tips! Thanks again for doing so much for many. Especially now! Please stay safe out there, we all need you more than you will ever know. 🙏❤️💪
I appreciate the advice. One thing that you don't mention that my PT recommended (although not specific to the anterior tibialis) is one leg balancing. I shrugged it off at first but when the pain and tightness returned, I heeded to what she said. I do believe it has helped. The strength it takes to stand on one foot is felt in the arch (navicular bone) which is connected to the anterior tibialis so the exercise forces the muscle to constantly adjust and work (at least that's my thoughts).
I self-diagnosed my anterior tibial tendonitis by your videos. Then I self-cured this pain by taping (also youtube). And eventually when I purchased Birkenstock. That cork bed with arch support works like magic!
Dear Gentlemen it really helped me to overcome from top foot pain, actually I had been searching for the suitable video tips for my pain finally I found the treatment thanks allot.Massive respect from Srilanka
Really enjoyed this video as it confirms how I have been helping my clients thru the years! As a personal trainer it is refreshing to have a reliable reference to send clients to as they sometimes forget the instructions! Thank you both! Love the humor!
I was born with club foot. I had a complete triple fusion of all mid bones and Achilles lengthened. I walk on the outer edge of my foot. I have managed for 50 yrs but I get that pain right where that mark is on Bob’s leg. So I go to walk forward and the pain is so sharp that I have to halt. In fact the only way to walk is to point my foot outwards and then I can sort of get around. Went to the podiatrist last week and he thinks it is this tendon and taped up my leg. To my surprise this is the most pain free I have been for weeks, I was literally crying with pain before 😢 My podiatrist said it might be worth making a rocker insole for my shoe to stop me putting to much pressure on this tendon. One more thing is that ice baths work but heat doesn’t . Thanks for your videos xx
This is exactly what I have!!! Now that I’m not afraid I’m gonna tip my knee apart I’ve done a few more stretches and walking with caution but Thank you guys sooooo much
This has been massively helpful, thankyou. I'm a fitness instructor an have recently started to get this and I'm confident I can now prevent it getting worse. Thanks Bob and Brad!
Thought I had gout-right ankle.I didn't.Had to search videos and found this which is it/ Anterior Tibialis Tendonitis and a solution. Thank you so very much for explaining so clearly what I can do to relieve and strengthen. I have missed the most important 1st step-icing to relieve the pain. The foot brace which I bought out of desperation for the pain to be able to walk helps with mobility and has helped me to be able to walk. Will start over with the icing and gentle exercise...A BIG THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE.
Thought I had gout as well ... because it was in my other foot but this is seemingly tendonitis. And as a "older" pro inline vert skater and 30 year post-kidney transplant recipient I try to stay on top of every medical issue I experience to minimize down time and other complications ... it ain't easy!! But I was glad to hear I could still ride my mountain bike as the pain doesn't prevent me from hitting the trails :-) Thanks everyone! And stay healthy!!!

Thanks for helping me diagnose my problem. I am starting next month to hike the Appalachian Trail and I definitely need to work this out. I love your videos and I appreciate you sharing your expertise with the world!
This is the first time I've ever commented on youtube but I'm in the same boat as you 2 years later. Can you give me some advice on what worked? How did you approach the trail? Did you finish?
There are a few factors in curing for plantar foot. One resource I found which succeeds in merging these is the Natural Foot Wizard (google it if you're interested) definately the most useful treatment that I've heard of.look at all the interesting information .
Good video. Bob mentioned cross friction massage. I'm going to try that now. Sounds nice. For you wood workers, that means to massage across the grain. I didn't even know I had tendonitis until I watch this video! I knew I had the ankle pain for like 60 years but I didn't know what it was. I've had it since I was a kid. I will try the ice therapy too! At the time of my comment this video had 157 thumbs down and 6.3K thumbs up. I don't get why anyone would give this video a thumbs down. I got this injury 20 to 30 years ago from doing Reebok Aerobic Step (with a vengence) - one step on top of another jumping around waving weights. Let me tell you this injury is CHRONIC ! Probably wouldnt be if I had stopped doing the step routines. Hindsight 20=20.
I am having this problem (probably caused by having walked too much and then standing all day). Thank you so much for this video. The info is extremely useful and it was delivered in an easy and enjoyable way.
Would you please address treatment of extensor tendonitis in a video? In particular, treatment after some time has passed (as opposed to right after an identifiable injury). Thank you -- you guys are great!
Thank you. I really appreciate this video. I’ve came back to it multiple times and the information really does help. You earned a subscription out of me. You guys are awesome!
Hi Bob and Brad. Just wanted to say it's sooo nice to see you covering stretching out tight calf muscles, which so frequently are the reason for the tib. ant. strain in the first place. So often I see therapists just treating the tib. ant. strain itself, without standing back and asking WHY it strained. All power to your elbows. Also thumbs, fingers and whatnot. Cheers, Steve August.
Thank you so much for this video. I'm not a runner but I am an organist and use my feet all the time to play the pedals. Last month I sprained the top of my foot and while it was mending very well, it's come back a bit because of wearing shoes with a medium height heel. (Not wise, I know, but I'm not very tall.)
I LOVE your channel - thank you! This anterior tibia tendon seems to be the source of a VERY painful cramp that I occasionally get in the top of my foot which wakes me out of a sound sleep! It is a spasm that pulls my foot upward and I cannot release it to its normal position unless I get out of bed and walk around for a couple of minutes - even then, if I am not careful in getting back into bed, it will spasm again & pull my foot upward. I am in good physical shape for my age (70) and typically take a brisk walk of about 2 miles each morning & continue throughout my day with an additional 2 to 3 miles just doing chores, yard work, shopping, etc. Would these exercises that you show in this video be useful in preventing this painful spasm in my foot??
I have extensor tendonitis I think, which causes a periodic and very annoying twinge on the top of my foot behind the base of my little toe. I hadn't considered massaging the shin muscle for it until watching you guys explain the muscle involved in that tendon but that is stopping the twinge from happening. I'm hoping wrapping that muscle will allow me to sleep tonight. I'll be icing the muscle and the inflamed tendon throughout the day as well. I'm pretty sure its because I don't do enough walking but started walking my dog regularly recently and am trying to get in a routine for my health. Not about to let this stop that. ;)
I also got pain in that top of the foot and shin area recently, probably from starting jump rope training after a longer break, and then the strained tendon(s) and surrounding nerves flared up very painfully during "ski gym" training. Instinctively I also tried rest, icing, and those static wall stretches for the calf which helped fast, plus some slow up and down foot raise exercises standing with the heels over the edge of a stair a few times per week. In addition to those treatments and exercises, wearing flatter and more flexible minimalist running shoes for workouts and lightly padding the area so the nerves wouldn't be irritated again by pressure from the laces seemed to help a lot. I'll try the shown band exercise in addition next week.
I had this injury at the end of a run last week. Started feeling better after a couple days but now it’s gotten much worse and the pain has moved to the sides of my ankle too. I’ll try some of these things, hopefully it helps. Thanks!
I’ve had this pain for over a month and couldn’t understand why. I have foot drop on my left foot from a back injury and got surgery to fix the slipped disc and slowly getting strength in the leg again. It doesn’t help being a nurse and walking basically all day. Game plan is to follow all these stretches, Ice, compress and just try to relax and hopefully that helps.
I cannot tell you how many physical issues I've had thru the years from elbow to foot that these guys have solved and resolved for me. They're a public treasure.
I concur....! 😃👍🏼
I was just saying the same!! And they are timely - this specific pain has been plaguing me for weeks - rheumatology wanted to inject me!!!

This video helped me so much, I realized I was getting the pain on my Anterior Tibialis muscle from tying my shoes too tight! 😃👍🏼
Omg was wondering if this was a possibility, as that’s where I am now with this. Thanks for mentioning tying shoes laces. How is it now?
@@eddieleblanc2959 definitely, me too, same problem, no more tight shoelaces
@@rossanaschofield7068 I think because there are Nerves that run through there to the Toes, tight laces were crushing the feet, maybe causing issues.
I was tying my shoes too tight because I thought I that might give me extra support in my feet. Big mistake!
Thank you so much! Much more helpful than my dr visit this morning. Appreciate the advice on the progression of care, God bless!

Exactly the same with me. It happened after jump roping in June, I’m still experiencing
Have this right now, got my army assessment centre in 10 days. Quick recovery hopfully😣
I've had foot pain for almost a year now. I suspect I'll be diagnosed with this when I see the doctor/physiotherapist next week.
How old are you and how often does this happen?
Great video, very helpful. Thanks!
you guys are the best
I had this injury at the end of a run last week. Started feeling better after a couple days but now it’s gotten much worse and the pain has moved to the sides of my ankle too. I’ll try some of these things, hopefully it helps. Thanks!
Did it help? I’m curious because I have the same problem and nothing helps
Nothing helps help me guys
Ice and stretches help, I think you need to gradually increase this muscle strenght
I use glad wrap to hold ice packs in shins
This is the problem of mine, and it keep coming back every time I start long run,,thank you so much will try what you advised
Some really good advice
I’ve had this pain for over a month and couldn’t understand why. I have foot drop on my left foot from a back injury and got surgery to fix the slipped disc and slowly getting strength in the leg again. It doesn’t help being a nurse and walking basically all day. Game plan is to follow all these stretches, Ice, compress and just try to relax and hopefully that helps.
Thank you
I can relate. Thank you so much for the insight!
