I hope there's people watching this that the lightbulb goes on. For a few thousand dollars of CDL school (or free!) you have a pretty clear path to six figures in a short period of time. No college debt, just be ready to work. Start on food service, work hard, get experience then drive a tanker if you want. There are a lot more difficult jobs that pay less-you don't have to keep working them. This stuff could change someones life for real.

I work in this industry of transportation. It's called cryogenics. The companies out there are pretty much owned by the same group.
Linde, Messer, Airgas, Airproducts, Praxair etc. I currently make around $120k to $130k a year. I work 5 days a week and only work about 10-11 hours a day, sometimes 8 hours. We have a 55 hour work week, anything over that is overtime.

I just started with Air products. I’m working out of the Butler Indiana terminal. I’m in the process of training. I spent the first week on the computer training learning about the company and what they expect and the rules regulations. The driver are regulated by the FDA because they haul medical and food grade liquids. I also have to have a passport and able to cross into Canada from time to time. It’s a slip seat job. No assigned trucks or trailer you just get what you are assigned for the day. 100% safety. Zero tolerance phone usage while in the truck and driving. This is NOT a field for reckless drivers and most companies in this field have front-facing cameras and you're not allowed to use your cell phone while you're driving at all. Not even hands-free. We also can't take all of the routes non-hazmat trucks can take so it takes some trip planning. But I honestly can say I love it over here. No bumping docks. I do straight drop and hook but most local jobs you WILL be loading and unloading even with AirProducts, AirGas, Air Liquide, etc. So don't all come running over here at once thinking you're just gonna pull up and someone is going to unload for you, that's not what that description meant. Messer is the old linde, and the pay went down after linde sold to messer so that they could merge with praxair. Air Products and Linde/Praxair are usually the highest paying in the areas they are in. Especially for hydrogen teams. Those guys make 125k-150k per year for each driver. And they are home every week.
However AP was the best to work for as a company driver. Until they recently adopted the same practice that the other 4 top cryo companies had. Witch is driver facing cameras.
Now all 5 top cryo companies can't keep drivers. They either quit. Or get fired over some camera event. Cryo isn't cool at the top 5 private carriers anymore. Its best to get on with one of the outside carriers. Or a small welding company. Then you won't have to deal with cameras.

Do your due diligence on the trucking school you are looking to attend. I lost 5k for being naive and not doing this. Met this guy who works for a school and he said he had his own company. The guy kept calling me, urging me to get my permit and sold me on this idea of obtaining my CDL. I obtained it last December and I had a few training sessions. I took my first test in January and failed my pre trip. Took my 2nd test in April and failed due to parallel parking. Every time I called him so I can practice there was always an excuse, truck broke down, the clutch broke, I’m out of town. I finally just took it as a loss. Here I am today, 10 months in and no CDL and paying off a 5k loan. Do your due diligence guys, men today no longer value their word. Genox is mainly lease purchase. And they have alot of former drivers from all of the other private cryo companies. Genox recently started offering company driver positions abt 2 to 3 yrs ago.

What these people say is true about pay but it comes with draw backs. There's really only 5 cryogenic gas companies in the US that'll pay over 120k to start. But people never really mention the negatives so I will:
    1) forward/ rear facing cameras 24/7 record
    2) no phone policy "I keep mine in my lunch box".
    3) quarterly safety meetings mandatory
    4) 4-6 sec following distance @all times
    5) cones out when backing
    6) safety- spy checks (someone follow you making sure driving/ unloading procedures are followed). Done randomly
    7) must drive below posted speed limit
    8) no eating behind the wheel
    9) no cb radio
    10) annual ride alongs
Some rules can be bent. But if you break no.2 you're terminated on the spot. If you break the others you may be coached but multiple offenses you will be terminated.
These jobs have higher turnover rates bc of their safety policies but if you can follow them you will enjoy your job.
F.Y.I Linde or now in USA called (linde plc) pays the most! On the ASU side any way.
