I'm glad the restoration went well. The Nashorn looked like hell when it was burnt.
Yeah, I saw the news when I was posted and it was absolutely heartbreaking. The team did really well to bring it back.

I remember the first posting of the fire. She was burnt pretty badly. A tragedy for the crew that were doing the restoration. My respects to everyone that’s involved in the project.

Nashorn was my favourite TD for a long time in WoT. Was legitimately depressed when I sold her for garage space a few years back.

Sofilein, whenever you're in the Netherlands again, got visit with Richard Nevo and/or Ben VanDyjk in Oosterbek, tell them Kevin DeVos recommended you. Richard owns a couple military museums in the Netherlands. As for me, I knew them well when I was stationed in Baumholder, Germany (2002-07). If you're curious what I did over there, you can still see the articles on estripes.com (European stars and stripes website) just do a search for "Baumholder WWII" and they'll pop up. I'm a retired Tank Destroyer (MOS 11H) now living in San Antonio.
So you put it inside to keep the elements and rust from returning it back the earth... and the building burns down. Story of my life.

This is tragic. I really feel for the guy. What bad luck. You can see he is really sad about it. When I win the Lottery this team will get what they need.

That's as bad as the people that rebuilt a B-29 from ice and as it was taxing to take off it went over a bump. An APU in the tail were the gunners were tipped over and started a fire. All that they could do was watch it burn. At least this vehicle can be saved with money, parts and effort.
SOF thanks for bringing this beautiful story, I saw the story of the fire of this beautiful tank, so thank you for bringing this back to light, it is, truly amazing story. I hope that you can do a up to date story on this beautiful Nashorn.

I wondered where she'd gone,gutting.I need a few. new t-shirts anyway.Last time i saw her was when they were fitting rear hull doors,then she was gone.She was great reference for scale modellers as a Hummel is very similar in construction.
The Nashorn is an awesome tank. Glad to hear the restoration project is back online. I know it will turn out well.

Is this the same one that seared off the drive wheel on a tree during militracks 2022? If it is its time to bring a priest in to bless her before anything else happens to her, She's too rare and beautiful and deserves an easy retirement!!
Yes indeed! It's fixed again though and ran into customs issues visiting tankfest this past summer 😭 will hopefully see it next Militracks and fingers are crossed no more issues
I saw this vehicle 2 years ago when it still was a bunch of parts and a chassis. Sucks that they had a fire!
Sad situation, but the problem with some of the parts could be solved with 3-D printing.

@@Sofilein I think I'll also be there. I've been at Overloon when there was a different event (tanks too but LOADS of re-enacters) and I love seeing the old armour when it's alive. So perhaps I'll see you there, then! I'll bring you some stroopwafels.

Quite unfortunate. Fire is the great destroyer of historical artifacts.
Where was the fire Insurance on the vehicle ??
The fire insurance was hugely expensive
things like this are effectively uninsurable for all but the super rich. As effectively unique works of art (which is how they'd be classified) there is no way for the insurance company to arrange a replacement or put a real value on it based on market price, so it's massively inflated.
I remember wot had a tank similar to the nashorn and I could park it on a slope and shoot my targets day noon and night without getting hit. When the put they nashorn in its place it sucked.

This is from last May, but the project is still ongoing and it'll be attending militracks 2020, I plan to be there too!

Sadly, if the hull has become twisted from the fire, even a little bit , then this machine is a wright off. The metal has become annulled due to the extreme heat.
It's running again now :)

The gentleman who runs the project has a channel, to my knowledge it took a lot of work and money to get it fixed up but what they had to fix specifically and what cannot be fixed he can answer better for you, th-cam.com/channels/fAA4BgO3pqk4ikjL7m4xUA.html is his channel and he updates regularly
