I only subscribed a few weeks back but this channel is quickly becoming a favorite, really dig the presentation style and how the facts are genuinely interesting.
What feels weirdly forgotten about the generation (also applies to the ps2) is that alot of games had Dolby Pro Logic II. Meant you could output a stereo signal that av units decode into surround. Really nice in Metroid Prime 1 & 2.
"You'll not be aware of, but now you'll because that's how knowledge works" - I'm pretty sure I'm gonna forget most of it in a few hours. My knowledge doesn't seem to work well.
I made it, ma! My favorite Gamecube game is probably SoulCalibur 2, as the Gamecube version featured Link and that was a big part of how it got me into the franchise. To this day I am still not a big fan of fighting games, but I love this whole franchise.
The mini disc was a way for Nintendo to control the prices they set for developers on the GameCube. They were the sole manufacturers of those discs and were known price gougers. It gatekept more than a few developers away from the platform and the discs holding a lower amount of content kept many games away as well.
Aika from Skies of Arcadia is SEGA's version of Tifa. Fina from Skies of Arcadia is SEGA's version of Aerith. If you look at this classic SEGA JRPG, you can find similar character types but also really different between their relationship with Vyse compared to those same comparisons with relationships with Cloud from FF7.
I thought you would include the interesting aspect about Gamecubes 3D capabilities and Luigi's Mansion was that years later the game would have a 3DS version.
As someone who grew up with the GameCube since 2002, I'm surprised that some people didn't know about the disk eject button. Does sound awesome that people managed to get LAN function to be played online. Similar to what I heard about Xbox system link. I never knew about both until recently. Half-Life 1 would of been awesome on the GameCube as I enjoyed what I've played of it on the PlayStation 2, and a small amount of it on the SEGA Dreamcast hardware What surprised me the most is that I never knew that fact about Nintendo supported UK universities, to help developing video games as a project on the GameCube dev kits hardware. That's an awesome UK Nintendo fact! *Serious Sam impression* "I made it, Ma!" For my favourite GameCube game on the platform, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is definitely my all-time favourite for the level design, missions, unlockables, and the Chao Garden. Even the multiplayer is great! I played that for the first in 2004 and was blown away by the Hero opening as a kid. Also, Welsh cakes are tasty!
I made it, Ma! What a tough choice. I think it's a toss up between Phantasy Star, Chibi Robo, Wind Waker and Animal Crossing. Great video by the way! Subbed.

Nintendo GameCube also serve as the foundation for the Nintendo Triforce Arcade system, it has adapted the Triforce name since it's a joint project of Nintendo (IP Holder), Sega (Experience in Arcade Systems and platform), and Namco (Partner and Experience in Arcade development). F-Zero and Mario Kart series are some of the games being released and are compatible with GameCube version. Weird Trivia: The Dolphin emulator was named after the internal name of the Nintendo GameCube PowerPC processor, It emulate the Nintendo Wii, GameCube, and Triforce Arcade system with minimal issue.
Middle button push was magnificent. The only game I Ever broke or scratched or anything was FF12 in a metal collector case, it wouldlt release and snapped the disc...😢
MAN don't get me started on how annoying collector cases/steelbooks are to get discs out of it sometimes it's honestly like they just want it to be an ornament!
Really good video! Really surprising how many facts there are still to learn. I am the idiot with a tiny crack in their copy of wind waker because i didn't know about the push to eject. Coincidentally my favourite GC game has to be Smash Melee because of course it is.
I wish I had appreciated the GameCube a little more in its day. I played and really enjoyed the console, but I also didn't think it would have any real lasting value, and that its problems would outweigh the fond memories. I'm very pleased to be wrong.
I was definitely 1 of those 100,000 that bought one of the GC Panasonic's Q. It was in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, Japan (around 2002, iirc.) and I knew I "just" came from an anime convention (in Ikebukuro, mind you; also I was serving in the US NAVY during that time early in the 00's - to 04) not only to see the creator of MegaTokyo, but be awe enjoying a Broccoli DiGiCharat "Party Night" song with the rest of the cast and crew. All hoping like idiots. Too bad when I came back to the states, low on cash etc, I tried 'pawning' this off but couldn't and eventually me and the system parted ways after a bad 'roommate from hell' came into my life. But it is what it is. It was a great time though!
I made it, ma! Viewtiful Joe is my favourite Gamecube game. It's been ported but to me it's a GC game at heart. (Sunshine and Windwaker are also my common goats too).

The way in which Wind Waker upended my intense disappointment with Nintendo’s decision to use the uniquely odd art style and animation and instead created a top tier Zelda of which I have a deep nostalgic affection for it’s atmosphere and ambience is truly unparalleled. I have the same level of nostalgic affection for Metroid Prime and still can’t say for sure I enjoyed either of those more than when I borrowed the Res Evil remake. And I almost just forgot Res Evil 4. I rank all 4 as “Tier S” gaming experiences and at the time I had no idea how incredibly rare games of that Tier would actually be

Nintendo have always gone down the route of attempting to discourage 3rd parties making money out of their systems. The mini-discs. The cartridges when everyone and his dog was moving to CD's. Strict controls on releases. All of these things stopped others from making money from Nintendo. And of course made sure that Nintendo made less money than they might have. Because companies went with other systems to save the hassle of working with Nintendo. As a SNES fanboy throughout that system's long life, I've avoided Nintendo like the plague ever since. Barring buying the handhelds for the kids over the years.
DVDs were developed by Sony amongst Toshiba and others. Therefore every Nintendo unit if it had DVD playback and games would mean Sony would get royalties. Nintendo didnt want to give their rival free money...
Or they simply did not want their consoles laser wear out due DVD -movies. GameCube is most reliable CD/DVD -console on that generation. Nearly all units still work perfectly.
@@M1XART DVD Movies dont make console lasers wear out. Unless youre putting in absurdly dirty dvds. The only claim ive ever seen of any DVDs or CDs hurting the PS2 laser was referring to homeburned cd-rs/dvd-rs.
@@eightcoins4401 Every DVD -movie player wears out laser sooner or later. The difference on games console is that when you play the game, laser is used only on loading screens. DVD -movies use laser all the time during entire movie. Gaming console should never be used as a movie player, or it eventually loses ability to read even games well.
psstCUBE. I made it, Ma! My favourite GameCube game was Sonic Adventure 2: Battle even if it's an extended port it's a great game. We actually had to get a couple of new GameCubes because we wore out the lasers keeping the console on almost 24/7 raising the Chao. 😂

Weren't they just mini dvd discs? I heard using mini dvd discs made pirating Gamecube games harder.
It was mainly done as an anti piracy measure. Pirates still cracked the drm in just 1 week though.
