- On this episode of My Classic Car, Dennis Gage visits the Indiana Convention of the Shelby American Automobile Club. We'll show you one of the country's largest gatherings of cars designed and engineered by the great Carroll Shelby. We feature Larry Shinoda, who was responsible for the design of the '63 Sting Ray, Z/28 Camaro and Boss 302 Mustang among other cars. Jim Richardson's restoration tips show us ins and outs of clutches in manual transmissions. Dennis heads out to southern California for a wild ride in a restored 1965 Pontiac GTO.

Wow, I remember watching this in the 90s when it was the latest episode. Love it.
Shoot, it ended after the GTO segment still awesome I think Dennis should do a where are they now episode where he goes back and visits people to see if they still have their car 2530 years later

Good to learn of REAL old cars
Love the Non-stock up-grades. Beautiful car. 65 my favorite. Had one as a DD from 78-87. Trips, muncie, 3.55 12 bolt (up-grade). Tons of fun. High 13s with G-60s in the rear. Being from the north, not a fan of AC. Thanks for the memories.

I think I remember reading one time that an east coast state (Connecticut?) ordered some GTO cop cars with 421 engines. Anyone else recall this?
Very cool - Another good one - The Sheriff of Catoosa County Georgia drove a 64 389 Tri-Power GTO Actually chased down Junior Johnson in his NASCAR Chevy who drove off the track for home . Later the Sheriff drove a 1979 T/A With a Built 455 - he liked those Pontiacs :) .
Glen Bard, that's 100% FALSE. No GTO ever had a 421 engine and CT never had any GTO cop cars.
I have a hard time with the GTO being considererd the start of the muscle car era , when you had all the big 3 in the early 60's with differant hipo options

All this prior to 1965
Not in mid sized cars though. The Ford Thunderbolt was, also from '64 but was a limited production factory race car. Similar deal with pony cars must be build on a compact chassis, so technicaly the '70+ Cuda and Challenger were not pony cars as they were built off a midsize chassis
Look up the 1938 Buick Century for an early muscle car....

That scoop was a dumb thing to do. John DeLorean himself said that the scoop was in a really shitty place on the hood and it got no air at all. He's basically starving the engine.
