It's almost as if the real Luffy was meeting his creator... and the creator finally got to meet his creation; I wasn't expecting to get this emotional.

I think it's probably editing. They put the audio of Oda speaking over the footage of Iñaki's reaction to the translator.
Either that, or he knows enough Japanese to catch the gist of what Oda's saying, but that's much less likely.

This is what is missing in Hollywood; actors and creators LOVING and RESPECTING the source material they are adapting. The overwhelming appreciation from this video was wholesome and contagious.

I was SO HAPPY to see that the cast are all big fans of the anime/manga and knew so much about the lore!!! Made the live action 1000% better! You can really tell when actors are passionate ❤❤❤
Halo and Witcher series could have learned from this.
Hanry Cavill also loved the Witcher, but the studio and writers ruined the show. I hope this doesn't happen again.

same!! this show made me a One Piece fan because of Luffy. Finally getting to know him in the anime, I admit he's a bit different but I love him in both versions.
Something about Inaki's performance is just delightful. I loved every second he's on the screen. He just has this contagious energy to make me smile.

Oda is a hugger. You can tell when they go in for a hug both times Oda doesn't half heartedly go for it, he goes all into the hug and does some big back pats.

This is the comment that made me cry. Yup. It must have felt like holding your child for the first time I guess. Like 26 year he has drawn this character and now he get to meet a real life one.
You could see him tearing up when Oda complimented him & said he couldn't imagine anyone else playing the role. What an honor to be told that by the creator of the series that you love.

Oda-sensei meeting an embodiment of his "child" - Luffy, after years of just writing and drawing stories of him must be so awesome, and emotional for him as a mangaka and as Luffy's father.
"I can't imagine anyone else playing this role" is the biggest compliment you'll ever hear from a mangaka if you were playing a role that they created, most specially coming from a legend like Oda-sensei himself. No wonder Iñaki felt so happy, and emotional. I'm so looking forward for the next seasons to come no matter how long as long as the quality of the production won't get compromise.
This is the best thing they've ever added to Netflix anime wise. I was so skeptical i didnt even watch it for like a week or 2 after release. Gave it a chance and then just fell completely in love with it. Hats off to the casting team., they chose the actors perfectly.

The fact that not only Iñaki looks , acts and has the spirit of Lufy, he also loves the character as it was his own. Perfect casting.
I think loving the character you are going to play should be the bare minimum. Otherwise how are you going to portray it successfully if you are in opposition to it?

I can understand why Oda sees Luffy through Iñaki the same way the manga fans do, he has that big smile that radiates a natural positive energy. I'd argue that Iñaki was Joy Boy before Joy Boy was even a thing.
If Iñaki was a Tarot card, he'd be *The Fool* unarguably and so would be Luffy.

My face hurts from smiling so much. I almost cringed from how Inaki is pushing into Oda's personal space excitedly; but when I think about it, this is exactly how Luffy would be. I can't believe they actually found Luffy. HE EVEN DREW HIM A PICTURE CARD. This kid is a treasure.

Oda reciprocates, you can see his fingers making contact with Iñaki's fingers. Even without seeing his face, Oda's body language is telling that he is thrilled to meet Iñaki, the live embodiment of Luffy, his beloved character.

In Latin cultures, people (including men) are much more open and touchy feely. Americans less so. And Japanese waaay less so. But I think Oda-San was probably okay here since Inaki is basically the embodiment of one of Oda’s “children” and dearest creations-Luffy.
Inaki deserves an oscar by the time the last seasons are aired.

I am so impressed by how well casted they are 😭 live actions can be so bad, but the producers did a lot of effort to capture the spirit of the show instead of just trying to copy it. The actors are so talented as well!

Thank you couldn't of been said any better. People think just because the show does't match with the actually story word for word it was made for people who didn't watch the actual show. I watched the show and the live action and it's more about briging the spirit of your characters to life and they did Amazing with that while managing to still hold true to the story in a fashion.
Why am I tearing up 😭 this was so touching. What a massive honor for him, and beautiful message from Iñaki at the end there.
This literally made me tear up a bit. I think its like meeting a son for Oda. And in turn, Iñaki is so touched to be approved of by him. It sounds quite a bit like he was close to crying whek he thanked Oda, and i must say I adore him just as much as Anime/Manga Luffy. He just makes me so happy :)

The whole contagious thing is so real though. When Iñaki smiles in any point of the show I get butterflies, it’s like seeing magic for the first time again, the ones we felt as kids. Truly amazing

I'm not a One Piece fan but the live action was AMAZING. Also.. That whole interaction between them was so touching.
Why not? The manga/anime is everything the live action is times 100. I know there’s lots of filler in the anime and it’s sooooo many episodes, but the story is so worth it. The live action hasn’t even scratched the surface of the epic story that is One Piece. And the story is finally starting to pay off. Watch/read it!!! It’s on par with something like Star Wars or LOTR imo.

@@MehRHEE I hear ya. I almost didn’t make it through the beginning of the anime because of the pacing and animation. I’m glad I did though. With OP it’s the story that’s the magic. Also, I don’t mean the story is similar to Star Wars or LOTR stylistically. I just mean that the level of storytelling and world building is on par with something like that. The amount of cultural, religious and political referencing going on under the surface of what seems like a silly show/manga about a rubber boy wanting to be the pirate king blows me away whenever I think about it lol. To each their own though, of course. Sometimes something just isn’t a person’s cup of tea and that’s totally ok. Have a good one!
I refused to start One Piece for so long because it was so intimidating and I was sure it was full of cringe fanservice, but after really enjoying the live action, I picked up where it left off on the anime and have been totally hooked :) I thought the Alabasta arc was shit in terms of pacing, but otherwise it has felt really easy and nice to get through episodes. And! the fanservice is hardly as bad as I thought it would be, at least up to the point where I am at (sky island).

I just watch the anime version of One Piece for the first time a few days ago. I was like, man, that Luffy character is just like Inaki!

He's dead, this is actor(head is covered and e.t.c) He has been out of sight for several years since his last appearance. The mangakas have a story plan that they give to the editors. If something happens to the mangaka and it cannot be hidden, the student continues the story. Remember "Berserk", there is the same story. And the death of Oda is still managed to be hidden, referring to the fact that he is a hikkikomori.

I started reading One Piece with my 19 year old son about a year ago. We're on chapter 693, and it's been a lot of fun connecting, and I even got some references that he didn't realize for some of the characters. We've watched the live action now, and both loved it. This young man Inaki Godoy seems like a wonderful person and he really captures the spirit of Luffy so well! So glad this came to life, and loved watching this little piece of history in the making!
I never watched the anime, only the live action. But all I can say if that Luffy’s character has most upbeat positive and kindest energy! I loved the character and loved how Inaki portrayed him ❤ same goes for the whole cast. great job to everyone ❤️

He really does such a good job. To be a carefree almost childlike character like that is very far from how people are in real life and so to be able to convincingly act that is really something amazing.
That has got to be the greatest honor of a lifetime. I had never watched or read One Piece before the live action but the trailers interested me and I heard good things so I watched it. I was hooked IMMEDIATELY by Inaki. Such a talent. The whole main cast was so great I couldn’t stop watching it! And now I started the anime and am LOVING it.

It is not very japanese-like to be all huggy and up-close but seeing Oda hugging Inaki really shows how happy he is that he was cast to play Luffy. It's like a dream come true for Oda and you can actually feel it through this video 😢
Indeed, and its very latin american to be all huggy and afectious I noticed how close Iñaki was to aoda, even touching him at times, pretry common stuff to do in our countries, but Not in Japan, it gives me the impression that they both really like each other and are happy to work together
I was worried it would be too awkward for them because of the difference between Japanese culture (hyper-polite, shy) and Mexican culture (affectionate, energetic), but it all went smoothly.

I could cry right now. Oda rarely does recorded interviews. I never imagined I would ever be able to glimpse his office. This is a one piece fans dream. Even if the live action turns out to not be what the fans imagined, I will forever be grateful that it gave us this interview.

I do have fanboy bias, but I also have extreme Live Action dislike most of the time, it’s not my favorite style of media to consume. You’re absolutely allowed to dislike it though 😅
I’ve been reading comments and I swear no one talks about the excitement ODA had when iñaki came in, he shouted his name and instantly went to hug him like they’re old friends who haven’t seen each other in a while. Oda clearly picked and cares for the actors a great deal

Oda picking Iñaki to play Luffy makes so much sense. Luffy is the way he is because that’s what Oda finds funny. I’ve never heard Oda speak so it’s nice to have a voice to the letters and SBSes. I’ve always found it funny how the fandom only have like 5 pictures of Oda, they’re all at least a decade old and one of them is from his wedding. Also, those marionettes are creepy as hell.

@@volix_1903 he has an accent, and it’s normal. Luffy is Brazilian, Iñaki is Mexican. If the One Piece had originally been voiced with the people same nationalities as the characters, the voice of Luffy would have been with Brazilian accent

This video made me so emotional and I just joined the straw hat fandom maybe 4/5 months ago. I can only imagine the emotion this holds for the people who where there for the beginning. I was very very scared because Netflix does not have good rep for the live action anime’s. But oh my goodness the live action is absolutely incredible. I can see and feel the honor that each person has that took part in live action. Thank you for changing our lives Oda
this is why the show is so good. you have the heart and soul of the main character chosen directly by the person that created that character. clearly a lot of care went into preserving the tone of the original intent of the creator.

I'm conflicted between wanting Live Action One Piece to get multiple season all the way to the end or for Inaki to grow beyond being locked in 1 role for his life.
This is definitely emotional for both of them. I think as much as it is great for Iñaki to meet Oda, it must be emotional for Oda himself because this is like him meeting 'Luffy' for the first time ever. The character that he has known for years. It's like you're excited because at last you get to meet the bestfriend you have imagined and known for 20+ plus years!! Look at the way he hugged him! Thats a reunion there

To see something beloved by so many get the treatment it deserves is what needs to come back. I'm a fan of One Piece now because of this amazing adaptation but I was always familiar with who Luffy, Nami and Zoro were, but didn't know much else beyond that. And Oda himself definitely did the right thing being directly involved in the process himself but that shoildnt take away from the director and team that were as invested in this world as the fans have been because holy shit does it show how much they cared👏
