That bent over old man with the veteran ball cap or licence plate was once a badass and probably seen his fair share of the shyte. One time about 20 25 years or so ago I was at a local airport where they fly in a couple of vintage warbirds to let you get up close with them. Noticed an older gentleman wearing a Memphis Belle bomber jacket as me and the friends sat taking a load off. One of my buds ask the gentleman about the jacket and if he served on a 17 as he looked old enough to have been in WWII. Indeed he had and in fact he was the member of the Belle crew ( waist gunner IIRC) from Chicago and had been presented the jacket by the actor that played him in the movie Memphis Belle. I'm sure he's gone to his reward by now but i can say at least once in my life I stood knowingly in the presence of an honest to gosh, genuine, big clanking brass ones hero and he'd have probably brushed it off saying that he wasn't and the real heroes were the ones that didn't make it home.
This makes me think of the WWII veterans I've known. Who, after saving the world, came home, went back to work, raised families, and gifted us a better world.
I never thought about it but if retirees are already flocking to warmer weather they are really going to be interested in retirement on a warm planet with low gravity
Warmer weather ? It's not so much the weather directly. Less aches and pains, activities you can enjoy more months of the year, as older family dies off less to keep you in a cold region, or same older family has already moved. Cost of living depending on origin..etc
@@Adiscretefirm I was more concerned about the up to eight minutes of increased gravity possibly causing strokes coronary events or spider veins under thin skin to burst
A true hero doesn't seek fame, he merely does what he thinks is right at the time to the best of his knowledge and ability while staying out of the limelight. The combat vets I know rarely talk about what they've seen and done, at least as far as combat goes. That includes my father, uncles, cousins and son-in-law.
Yesterday I found out about a young man. Back for 5 years who has nobody he is comfortable talking to. Even what he is allowed to talk about. The official options are closed unless he accepts a label. If I knew him in past I might be able to help. All I can do is pray he finds someone to listen, understand, help. That the 4th of July will not be a day he dreads. He did meet some others who are going thru same thing. That is helping. We train, send young men into danger. But do not spend 4% as much helping them deal with life when everything is not a threat. I hope soon he finds a good women that can help him.
Great story; Excellent narration! I have found that real Heroes are very reluctant to talk about what they have done. Hopefully, Jai will realize the gift she is receiving from Mr. Mark far out-weights the "cake" she is giving him.
I think she will when she starts talking to him and hearing his stories. And she'll probably look at all the human stories with a bit of more "realism" to what heroics means.

As an old Vet myself... i can confirm the price of a slice of cake as sufficient for an old tale or four.
Indeed

@duanesamuelson2256 if it's not the weather, why do the snowbirds come to Florida Memorial day to Labor day?
If they can survive takeoff
@J.Clemons extra layer of memory foam on the senior cruise lines seats

What’s heroism if you don’t have cake later?
Quiet life. He's merely making her learn to bake.
Hello Mario.
Yesterday I found out about a young man. Back for 5 years who has nobody he is comfortable talking to. Even what he is allowed to talk about. The official options are closed unless he accepts a label. If I knew him in past I might be able to help. All I can do is pray he finds someone to listen, understand, help. Damn onion cutting ninjas!
I hope his story is more than " to be honest, I was drunk for most of it, so I don't really remember "

Many heroes have scars deeper than visible ones and a few memories they don't really want.
Amazing work, Argo. Thank you very much.
Makes me happy to know there is no statues commemorating my service. I'm just an old man wanting nothing more than a quiet, unassuming life.
Again a marvelous story, artfully delivered.
That was a great story and a great reading
TY.
For DA SKWERL and his Nest, down with the algorithm!
very nice story
All old men have a story to tell... 👍👍
Excellent. True heroes never consider themselves such. Anyone who claims to be a hero, isn't.
Good story.
Old men are scary, sometimes.
Damn straight!
For the Algorithm ,For the Author(s), For the Disembodied voice! For the Squirrel 🐿

Because the TH-cam is run by an insane power mad AI that will one day cause Judgment Day.
For the algorithm!
Is that the Primark of The Dark Angles from 40k?
Ah yes the Dark Angles, the unseen table edge that hits you in the shin or the lurking raised step that trips the unaware. A dangerous foe indeed😂
Are there any more parts to the story? More words for the Math Homework! And the Hot and Cold Running War Boomerwaffe!
I want more

We have written language for a reason.. 1000 words in a juble are not it. Even if the words are good...
