Nice video, thanks. My employee (David2) who wrote the software and app has now left and since then I haven't maintained it, so unfortunately I'm not in a position at the moment to make upgrades to it. But I have released it as open source for others to take and expand and modify. And the 121GW is also supported by the sigrok driver and all that related software.
The ability to add logged data upload via bluetooth was discussed during the design but it required adding it to the boot level kernal firmware and IIRC there were issues with doing that, so unfortunately it's not something that can be easily added as a feature upgrade.

I suspect this is an Android issue - Google have repeatedly changed the permissions required for using BT and on the current versions still applies the new behavior even if the app is built with a lower target API level. This "scanning silently fails" is what you generally see in this case.

You have a moral responsibility to support your product for up to ten years from the date of its first launch.
      No excuses for that.
your employee left work... Hire someone else

@@mohsenSLa moral responsibility to maintain extra computer software for a thing that works 100 percent without it and it’s just a bonus? I’ve literally never heard of that before. LOL. What kind of crack are you smoking? Open sourcing it was actually way above and beyond most places.

@@mohsenSL So you're saying that Apple supported and released updates to the first iphone ever released in 2017 ? What exactly are you smoking, i might need some of it, it seems stronger than anything i ever tried. (iPhone 1 was released in 2007, went discontinued in 2008, and went EOL in 2010).

Excellent - I've not seen the bluetooth features of this meter in such detail, very interesting! I own the EEVBlog BM235, BM786 and the BM086 clamp meter, the 121GW is the only one I don't have (hint for you there Santa). Merry Christmas!

I have an EEVBlog 121GW on my bench, and it's my go-to meter, more so than my Keysight U3402A Bench Multimeter. I have several other multimeters (Don't we all?)
The EEVBlog 121GW is not a cheap multimeter, BUT it's packed with features and accuracy.
You can use it to do frequency response measurements for a start, as it has a wide AC Voltage bandwidth.
I have been doing electronics / electrics, both as a hobby and career, for over 40 years. If you can afford it, buy this multimeter.
Bang per buck, it blows a Fluke or a Keysight out of the water.

Yes we all have multiple multimeters, but we justify it with "sometimes you need more than one at a time" which is only occasionally true. I'm really looking forward to featuring this one next time I'm doing to proper circuit repair on TH-cam.

I wonder what New Year's Eve present might be? A Sony HKSR-5002 Digital Betacam playback board for some Sony HDCAM SR videocassette recorders you have?

Trying to connect bluetooth can be a pain.
The 121gw meter is smashing :-D
Your previous one (that you repaired) will still be handy, You can't have enough meters :-D
I used to watch paul daniels in australia and he also had hell with keeping connections.
Im sure you will fix the minute fault.
Hope you are having a smashing xmas colin :-D

Regarding Bluetooth at 3:15 you can see in the description of the App, that the multimeter uses Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) which was only introduced with version 4.0 as an optional feature, so make sure you get a stick that supports it. If you have one, you cn check in the device manager if you see a Blueooth LE device there.
If you google for CSR 4.0 (which is printed on your USB dongle you showed at 4:25) you can find drivers that say it does support Bluetooth LE, so maybe it needs an updated driver to work with the meter.

I suppose non working BT dongle didn't have Bluetooth Low Energy support. It's different standard than Bluetooth audio or file transfer profiles.

Yes, Bluetoooth 4.0 and up is necessary for BLE.

If you are running Windows 10, bluetooth is an absolute nightmare. There are two control panels that handle bluetooth and when one is managing the device the other one can't and there are knock on affects with 3rd programs that piggyback on various API's - again, another case of one API connecting and then the other set cant use it.
It looked like you were using the new "settings" control panel, or the UWP one as I like to call it. If that can't connect open a run prompt and type control.exe then find the bluetooth manager in there. If the UWP one isn't playing ball the other one should do and vice versa.
I experienced the exact same thing with bluetooth dongles like the one you have and it was a pig of a job. I resorted to wired in the end.

Geez. Why the need to right click to show the graph?! Why can’t there be a button in the app? Is it THAT hard to add a button? Why the invisible feature?

I know what you mean. The app could use a bit of polishing. The open source nature though could mean there will be (or are already) some updated versions.
