Thank you for this! I am brand new to crocheting (less than a month). The instructions were so easy to follow. I have made about a dozen so far. The repetition is helping me really learn the skills. The first one took me an embarassingly long time, but now I can make one in about 30 minutes. They will make great Christmas gifts!
I really hope I can do some of these! I had a neighbor ask me today if I could knit or crochet some Christmas ornaments for her. I am thankful to find your tutorials!
I love your videos!💖 I've crocheted since a little girl, but self taught using a little booklet that I still have from the 70's. Happy to see that most of my stitches are correct, and love that I can follow along with you and correct some of my misteps.🤗💖 It's always so much joy for me when I end up with the correct amount of stitches and end on the right stitch!😄😍🎉 Thank You again for such wonderful instructions and inspiration!💖 Will be trying a few of these to add to a decorative dough bowl.🤞💖
I LOVE this ornament and this pattern. I made mine out of the natural color of Sugar 'n Cream because I love working with cotton, so I made a few adjustments, and it worked out perfectly. The pattern is so easy to adjust. Thank you for the amazing tutorial. :)
May I ask what adjustments you made with the cotton yarn? I have a lot of cotton and acrylic yarn that I need to use before I go buy more yarn. Thanks.
Thank you for making a tutorial that’s easy to follow and explaining everything so well. I really love these and want to learn to make some as gifts for my family.
I love how you added bows to some of them, so cute! My New Years resolution is to start making new Christmas decorations, and this will definitely be one of them! Thanks so much for sharing this video! 😊 PS, I love the country look with the khaki color and gray, but I have to say that my all time favorite one, is the 1970's green sparkle one. I one that likes things from the past😉
Your tutorial is so easy to follow with great explanation. I have never crocheted before but bought the yarn you suggested and followed the tutorial step by step and I am so proud of my very first bauble! I’m excited to make more and I’ve got my eye on the simple basket as my next project. Thank you for giving me the confidence to give it a go!
Totally Cool! 👍 And 1st ornament shown has a Joy tag on it! 🥰 Youngest child's name is Joy so I have a blast this time of year! 😉 Joy items abound! Thank you for sharing! The ornaments are BEAUTIFUL!!! 😍🤩😎🩷✌️🤘
What a fun project! I now understand why there is not one skein of Bernat Maker yarn, in these colors, available anywhere on the planet! Everyone will be making them! I used Bernat velvet and my small ornament came out perfect! There are gold topped ornaments on Amazon…in case spray painting them isn’t possible for someone.
@ Just a note…I’ve been digging out novelty yarns and other yarns with unique textures from my stash…playing with hook sizes and yarn combos…I’m addicted to making these ornaments! Wish I could show them to you…I love a fun project that makes up quickly, challenges my creativity and uses the skills I have already learned! Everyone in my family is getting their own personal ornament for Christmas this year! Thanks again for sharing this tutorial…you are a great teacher and very creative!
This was such a good tutorial! I've only crocheted a few Woobles, that's how I learned the basics, and this explains the new stitches I had to learn so well! I tested it out on my extra Wooble yarn just to make sure I could do it and I'm so excited to make some actual ones!
Great idea. I have bernat maker and have been looking for a unique project. This is it. Your detailed teaching instructions are so easy to follow. Thank you for using a stitch marker and showing us exactly where to place it. 😊
absolutely love this pattern!! thank you!! I'm using bernat velvet on 2.75" ornaments & changed the starting round to 5hdc. perfect fit & everyone loves them 🎄💗🤩
I made this with just regular 4 yarn in a dusty rose colour… it turned out beautifully! Such a quick project! I wonder what this pattern would look like with macrame or a cotton cord… I may have to try it 🥰
Great tutorial, thank you. The yarns you chose are beautiful! I live in Scotland so can’t get the same yarns without spending a fortune on postage costs, so hope to find something equally as beautiful. I always make Christmas ornaments to add one to each person’s gift. Normally I choose one design to make but I have found a few this year that would be great for specific folks thatI think I am going to make individual ones this year as well as making a few for my own tree. This has been such beautiful one, thank you! 💖
Thank you so much, and no, this one is worked in a continuous round, you can mark the beginning stitch with a stitch marker to help keep track. Once you work the hdc around the bottom, you can just keep going until you get the height you need, it's not 100% necessary to mark the stitches anymore.
Thank you! What size are your working on? The small should only have 21 stitches, and the large 27. After that you should be working even, not increasing.
Hi, May i ask how you measure your ornaments? I measured around the ornament the largest part. then i went sorta vertical . I never get your measurements not that i would, but your ornaments look soooo big..
Hi there! I used the measurements that were shown on the packaging. I believe they use the diameter right across the center (horizontally). They get quite large once you put the yarn on them.
Great tutorial, especially for a beginner like me 😊 Would you have any tips or suggestions using the flat ornaments?? That’s all I have on hand (they are glass - 2.75” & 4”). Thanks so much!
Thank you so much, I'm glad you're following along well! I'm not 100% sure without experimenting first, I'll probably try it next Christmas. Maybe a smaller stitch count??
I have to make a trip to Hobby Lobby (Darn) Friday to get some clear Christmas bulbs. Thank you so much for sharing your pattern. I now know what I'm making for my family for Christmas they are going to love them.
You're welcome, and yes, it's pretty flexible with just about anything, but you may need to make adjustments to the size and hook. I talk a little more about it in the written pattern on my blog: simplymadebyerin.com/2024/11/04/how-to-make-a-crochet-christmas-ball-ornament/
Thank you for this video! These are beautiful. I don't want to order too much yard! I noticed the pattern says 30 yards for the small ornaments. Does that mean 30 yards per ornament?
I made this with a small tweak I couldn’t get the strike stitch to work for row 6 for me so I popped in a single crochet between and worked that way. Making these for teachers, I used heartland thick and quick with no issues. Same hook she used.
Thank you, it's pretty flexible with just about anything, you may try going up a hook size or two, if that doesn't work, you'll probably need to add a few increases to the hdc around the bottom.
OMG I just noticed you hold your working yarn the same as I do. So funny because every tutorial I watch people keep their finger out straight. I thought I was the only one haha.
Isn't a size 8mm hook too tight on this size 5 yarn? Just seems tight pushing the hook in. I normally use a Bernat Blanket size 6 and use a size 7mm hook

When I do my second round of increase stitches I never make it back to the stitch marker and I’ve counted them to make sure I have 21 stitches. Any ideas on what I’m doing wrong? Is it 1 hdc, 2hdc, then back to 1hdc? Do you alternate?! From the instructions it seems as if it’s 1 hdc and then 2hdc in each stitch all the way around.
Hi there, here are the exact instructions. The first stitch of the following round should be worked in the marked stitch, perhaps you're trying to work the last stitch into the marked stitch? Rnd 2. 2 hdc in each st around. (14hdc) Rnd 3. *Hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, repeat from * around. (21hdc) For full written pattern go here: simplymadebyerin.com/2024/11/04/how-to-make-a-crochet-christmas-ball-ornament/
Is there away it can be done with tinier plastic ornaments? Or plastic ornaments in general? I have small ornaments leftover from a project I’d love to use up. 🙃 if not it’s fine I have an alternative idea
Yes, you can use whatever ornaments you have. I have a few suggestions on how to adjust the pattern on the written instructions on my blog: simplymadebyerin.com/2024/11/04/how-to-make-a-crochet-christmas-ball-ornament/
I just love these and can’t wait to start making them!!!! I used the link you provided for wooden tags, but was unable to find them. Could you help me out as to the name of the company you ordered from? I would truly appreciate it.
Thanks for a great tutorial. I tried it with a different yarn. Not quite as pretty as yours. Unfortunately the yarn you used in the tutorial is discontinued. I’ll try searching for something similar.
I bought the pattern from Etsy but I was wondering if there's a way of doing this with the chain method instead of the magic circle. I can never do a magic circle
These are sooo elegant too bad all i had was the ornaments that open up. No pretty tops but, I was still able to make them. I got to figure out a top. I might just glue a water bottle top spray painted gold on it. ♥♥♥♥♥

You can definitely use acrylic. Depending on what yarn you use, it may get fuzzy, just be careful how you store them. If using worsted weight yarn, use two strands held together.
I just get floral picks from Hobby Lobby or Michaels and cut them down. The wooden tags are from Savlabot on Etsy here, she may be closed for Christmas: creatoriq.cc/47HWKj9

Thank you for this video! These are beautiful. I don't want to order too much yard! I noticed the pattern says 30 yards for the small ornaments. Does that mean 30 yards per ornament?
Yes, exactly
Heel leuk patroon ,bedankt voor het filmpje
You're welcome!
I made this with a small tweak I couldn’t get the strike stitch to work for row 6 for me so I popped in a single crochet between and worked that way. Making these for teachers, I used heartland thick and quick with no issues. Same hook she used.
I'm glad you made it work!
Lovely. Thank you.
Thank you and you're welcome!
Lovely ornament, but i would like to know if can be use the size 4 ( worsen yard)
That's so funny you noticed (others have too), I'm so scared I'm going to get arthritis!! I can't do it any other way.
I can't do it the other way either.
Just curious what you would sell these items for? I am trying to figure out pricing for an open house I am doing soon.
Isn't a size 8mm hook too tight on this size 5 yarn? Just seems tight pushing the hook in. I normally use a Bernat Blanket size 6 and use a size 7mm hook
Could I use two strands of worsted to make up for the thickness? Can't find cream maker yarn anywhere. Lol
Yes, that should work too! It's really flexible to adjust with just about anything.
I have a quick question, what color and brand is that green yarn? Thank you 😊
The dark green velvet yarn is from Hobby Lobby, it's called Yarn Bee Velvety Smooth Sparkle in Olive.
@ Oh perfect. Thank you so much 😊!
Thanks for the video but i just could not follow the single and the spike stitch and the aritch is so pretty what sticrch can i do instead
You're welcome, you can always try slowing the video down, that may help. Also, if you look at the written pattern on my blog it has photos: simplymadebyerin.com/2024/11/04/how-to-make-a-crochet-christmas-ball-ornament/
Could you use bernat blanket yarn
Yes, that would look so pretty!
How do the ornaments get measured? Diameter at largest part or height or something else?
I used the measurement from the box, but I believe it’s the diameter across the center of the ornament (horizontally).
Awesome tutorial & looks great! Just curious - is there a reason you didn’t do decreases at the top?
Thank you, and yes, so I could fit it around the ball. Also, it wasn't really needed in this pattern.
Do any adjustments need to be made to the pattern to accommodate left handed crochet?
I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with left handed crochet, so I'm really not sure. I'm thinking no, as its just a repeat all the way around.
(14hdc)
Rnd 3. *Hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, repeat from * around. (21hdc)

You're welcome, and definitely check back for the Bernat Maker, it isn't discontinued, just very popular, so many colors are sold out right now.
Magnifique de toutes beautés

Does this work with the plastic Christmas balls too?
Yes, glass or plastic!
Barnet maker yarn is it called tube yarn cause I cant find it
Yes, It's on Amazon, Yarnspirations, and JoAnn, unfortunately most colors are sold out right now.
Do you slip stitch at the end of each round?
No, a continuous round, you can mark with a stitch marker if you'd like.
Love it! Quick and simple enough to make a bunch of them
Thank you!
I bought the pattern from Etsy but I was wondering if there's a way of doing this with the chain method instead of the magic circle. I can never do a magic circle
Try chaining 3 & slip stitch into the 1st stitch & work in that circle
Yes, you can, it should be listed in the pattern under round 1.
Yes, thank you, this is exactly what I state in the pattern!!
How did you measure the baubles to get 8cm? I measured all the way around and I got 22cm
The measurements were on the packaging, I believe they give the diameter measurement, not the entire circumference.

What size is small, as in how many inches across is it?
The ornament before crocheting around it is 3.15 inches.
That beautiful green velvet Hobby Lobby yarn is only 3.49 every other week. Next week is the next sale 💚💚💚
It's such a great deal and it's stunning, I made a bunch for my own tree!
