I think Coop naturally does that kind of assessment on most equipment he reviews, but for this particular piece of equipment I'm not seeing that consideration. For REHIT, you must exercise at your maximum level, which requires application of precisely the right resistance, personalized for your capabilities (which is higher than most people assume). CAROL's computer-controlled brake system applies the resistance fully automatically, at the right speed and the right time, in a fraction of a second. I'm on beta blockers for hypertension, which reduce your heart rate even during strenuous exercise. My concern is that the Carol bike would misinterpret that, leading to dangerous over exertion.
Like your thoughts on a rower and skier. I would also like to see a bike like this in a recumbent style. Really like the idea of bringing AI into helping develop your performance. Looking forward to seeing what else is on the horizon.
As a recumbent rider on the road, I still prefer upright stationary bikes for my workouts; much easier for cardio. However, if you need a bent due to musculo-skeletal reasons, I get it
I've been doing this kind of exercise after watching BBC documentary on high intensity cycling using a cheap stopwatch and a cheap stationary exercise bike... This is a waste of money 💸.
I've been running like this for 15 years. Sure, there are different ways of achieving this. The point of this is using AI to do it with near absolute accuracy, while providing a good quality bike. I wouldn't call it a waste.
@@TommyHiggz Totally right - the accuracy that CAROL bike can provide means each workout is personalized to the rider's needs and the bike can adjust for you in a fraction of a second!
In "Slow Burn" ultra distance runner Stu Mittleman talks about maintaining your heart rate at a pace that is sustainable. If you go too fast and hard you are less likely to enjoy it as well as increase your chances of injury. Cardio work should not be a thing of dread. There is a place for sprints, but it can not be the totality of your work.
Michael, calories burned has a much to do with time as it does distanced traveled. The issue with hiit is, you'll burn more calories in a shorter time because you exerted yourself more. But then your body will need to recover from that and by the end of the day your NEAT (Non-exercise activity thermogenesis) will likely balance itself sub consciously. It's like filling up your car with gas and A: cruise control with low rpm and travel 100miles, or B stomp on it, bury the needle and get that 100 miles done. you'll get there faster sure. but what's left in the tank?
I had one of those seats and it caused uncomfortable inner thigh rubbing and because its so soft it caused my nads to go numb. solution bought 2 new seats, first one being too narrow (had to learn about the sit down bones).
Fake AI is going to be a common issue in coming years. Not saying this is fake, but nothing Coop described differentiates real AI from an algorithm. Just because the workout is different each time doesn't mean it's AI. But for most people, it will seem like AI and they'd be willing to pay more for something marketed as having AI.
Not convinced it is actually "AI". Like, a complicated algorithm with lots of variables doesn't just make something AI. Sounds to me just like anything electronically controlled, but with a bit better programming. What otherwise would the AI be doing?
Hey there! The AI works by guiding your workouts on the bike. AI personalizes each ride to keep the rider working at their own optimal intensity, and achieving their personal maximum fitness gains as quickly as possible. CAROL’s AI algorithms analyze your ride and combine your data with that from hundreds of thousands of other rides. This enables the AI to determine the optimal rate of fatigue and calculate your optimal, personalized resistance. That optimized resistance is applied to your next ride. Thank you for asking 😊💙
I’m a big guy. Like tall and big. So I don’t look fat. Like I know I could lose some weight. But I am 300lb. Would be great if more things went at least that but maybe even 350lb. 286lb max user weight puts this out of reach.
I trust the guy, so if Cooper said it's worth it, it probably is for most people. I can see this bike has a unique perspective that a traditional bike doesn't have. That being said, I probably not gonna buy the bike. Yeah, it's $12 per month, which is less than a gym membership but at the same time you don't have to pay initial $1,000~$5,000 for it. That's a huge risk if you don't know how long you're going to use that product. Hopefully one day, manufacturers offer "update" basses charges (which is a better way than 1 month trial IMO), but this can be a very hard way to implement because they have to prove themselves before actually get paid. The concept of monthly subscription fee makes me feel like I'm renting the product, for that initial price of smart gym equipment is a little too hefty.

hiit workouts are overrated. Multiple studies have shown that although you burn more calories in a length of time, you tend to exhaust yourself and coast or burn less throughout the so it ends up balancing out often enough. Also, if you are training to build muscle, it may impede your bodies ability to recover for at least leg training. Although i think it's great to get that heart rate up regularly for health reasons, I just don't Hiit should be treated like the best thing since sliced bread. I would also say, if fat loss was the goal, and one was currently quite out of shape to begin with. I'd say stay away from it and stick with better food and steady state cardio for best results. This thing looks cool but monthly subscription is a little out of line. That's like video games with a pay to win system or micro-transactions within the game. the whole point of home gyms are to get away from fees.
I do not believe that doing a ten ish minute workout is "just as beneficial as a 45 minute jog." You won't burn the same amount of calories, that's a fact. I don't think you would build as much muscle endurance either. It would be reasonable to think that you would just get better at sprinting and performing high intensity movements, which is good, but does not compare to steady state cardio. Just my two cents.

However, if you need a bent due to musculo-skeletal reasons, I get it
@Scott Bourret This bike is awesome and it really is a great cardio workout. -Mike, GGR Community Manager
There is a place for sprints, but it can not be the totality of your work.
it absolutly can.
there is no reason for us in evolution to run marathons except for exhaustion hunting.
Is this safe for those on beta blockers as beta blockers reduce your heart rate even during strenuous exercise.
Equivalent to a 45 minute jog? That sounds super suspect.
There’s a ton of science showing incredible cardio vascular/vo2 max and blood profile improvements with just a few intense bouts like this. It’s legit
@Michael Stocker I normally do 45 mins of cardio a day which is a job and this bike was a great workout. -Mike, GGR Community Manager
This ^ good saddles come in different widths...
Best to hit up a bike shop that has a saddle fit station and has an good exchange policy
Looks like it uses normal rails so you could put any seat on
Fake AI is going to be a common issue in coming years. Not saying this is fake, but nothing Coop described differentiates real AI from an algorithm. Just because the workout is different each time doesn't mean it's AI. But for most people, it will seem like AI and they'd be willing to pay more for something marketed as having AI.
Can you make a video about the new barbells that have a sliding grip for bench?
I declare this channel, Gym Subscription Reviews.
How about a carol watch to use for all the above? Just a thought.
Not convinced it is actually "AI". Like, a complicated algorithm with lots of variables doesn't just make something AI. Sounds to me just like anything electronically controlled, but with a bit better programming. What otherwise would the AI be doing?
Everyone uses AI for everything these days 😂.
Sweet Spiderman 3 hair @2:12.
Hey Hyun, we offer a 100-day home trial on our website which you could try. If you don't like the bike, you can return it with no questions asked. That will give you an idea of how long you're going to use CAROL for and whether it suits your workout regime. Let us know if you've got any other questions: carolbike.com
I bought some gym equipment overseas but how do arrange shipping from port/dock to home address
Freight Forwarder
Hey Coop can you do a review on the new playstation? This bike looks exhausting.
Finishing your workout in 8 minutes 40 seconds means more time for Playstation at least! 😉
Does that mean these are the new king of burning cals over air bikes
This is a joke right? I thought you had to declare any paid promotions on youtube these days? personally i Would rather spend my money on a shake weight!
You're cab fare. Going to sleep mode.
How many calories did you burn??
I can already see they got the seat right. Concept 2 Bike Erg’s original seat (pre-me changing it to something like the Carol bike) was too all up my my business…
Seats are easy to change...
Someone who actually rides would hate that fat seat. The good news is you can put whatever seat you want
That tech and resistance type on an assault style bike would be……YAY!!
Keiser M3i Full Body Trainer.
@@bmp713 Thanks! I got to check out their floor model at IHRSA this year. BADASS!
@@jonstewart5386 How did you like it? I would love one but too expensive.
@@bmp713 I'm coming up with an equipment wishlist/budget for a future gym endeavor. I don't want to spend so much that I fill a class with these, but having several in the cardio area would be tops! The resistance is super consistent and there were lots of resistance options (unlike an echo bike which has 1 option). I def felt a major pump in my quads, which is what I'd usually want before starting a lower body workout, with no stress on the knees. I'd probably want to swap the saddle though as a personal preference.
It has a name? We’re officially in the terminator saga boys
Is it dangerous to go all out exertion?
Not unless you have a heart condition. Plus, what most people perceive to be "all out" usually isn't. Your mind is weaker than your body.
Hey there! The CAROL bike measures each rider’s maximum intensity based on their fitness level and prior performance on the bike, so it will push you as hard as you can ride. REHIT was developed in the lab, studied by scientists, and perfected by CAROL for use by anyone at home. We’ve collaborated directly with Vollaard and Metcalfe to make sure CAROL makes REHIT accessible to everyone.
for $3000 CAD you could just a bike and a smart trainer. It would be far more interactive, interesting, engaging and you have a bike to go like outside and shit.
Where did you get that shirt coop?
@Chris Its from Super Strong Squad.
@@GarageGymReviews Thanks Coop! 👍
hiit workouts are overrated. That's like video games with a pay to win system or micro-transactions within the game. the whole point of home gyms are to get away from fees.
how about a review of the Jacob's ladder. That thing will kick your ass.
@Keith Hopkins I have seen this. Is it really a good workout? -Mike, GGR Community Manager
@@GarageGymReviews yes. imagine a bear crawl (at your own pace) for distance or time. You guys should do a review.
Hey Nathan! Thanks so much for your comment, it's good to hear from you. You can read more about how CAROL's workouts deliver bigger health and fitness benefits in 20% of the time compared to regular exercise on our website: carolbike.com/science/ We hope it's helpful to you.
I so want that shirt where did you get it?
Super Strong Squad website
@James McLaughlin its from Super Strong Squad.
So basically it is CrossFit on a bike. Short sprints, recovery, etc.
Let’s just shave our head coup, it’s time
Should have started this video with the price of this bike. 2500 dollars. Thanks for showing us what it does now I will just replicate this on my bike that is a reasonable 800 dollars, problem solved.
Zwift…
Hey Coop!
Can you please do a review on the Oculas Quest 2?(I think I spelled that right) I know it’s a “video game” but there’s some really dope “workout” games that are supposed to be amazing!
Thanks in advance Mr.Cooper
@Cameron Son I can get it added to our list of things people are wanting to see reviews. -Mike, GGR Community Manager
He’s a sucker for fancy digital displays.
HIIT makes me laugh Arthur Lydiard was using HIIT in the 50s and 60s just without the science and marketing supporting him.
He only reviews expensive stuff so he has a reason to get it. It's like a drug and will hurt his "career" because the average person can't afford anything on his channel and the people that can don't sit on TH-cam and research things they just buy and return if they don't like it.
The "studies". Are these peer-reviewed studies that free of bias and compared against appropriate control groups?
Exercise equipment industry has gone insane...
nah theres just different groups of customers that want different things
This can be done on most stationary bikes. No need to spend that much
$3K in Canada, ouch.
Good job moving reviews to big room BUT gotta get rid of the echoes… can’t focus on what you’re saying
Dude get a real bike a smart trainer and a zwift account instead of that limiting, boring thing. There are a ton of apps you can use with a smart trainer that are way bettet than that thing.
"AI" powered 😂
This thing is a freaking rip off! Then they slap you with a subscription....FOH!
They got everything if you do any reviews or hit up the company tell them Joel Slovinski sent them your way lmao
So nick cage 🤔
It total bull shit by 100%

Not a single one. I find this odd.
Get a haircut or shave the mustache Coop!
Thumbs down on the funky color grading.👎
Why put those BS claims about reducing cholesterol etc at the start? This is obviously a paid for "pretend" review
I personally like the bowflex m8 rather than a bike being a bigger guy.
@UMFE At 6'3'' 245 I like to have a bike that fits me but I enjoyed using this one, it was a great workout. -Mike, GGR Community Manager
Yeah agree it's all personal choice!
that does look good.
@Joshua Ryan This bike is slick and it provides a great cardio workout.- Mike, GGR Community Manager.

Pretty hard to take this seriously with such obviously incorrect/misleading statements trying to claim that a couple of 20 seconds sprints is going to give equivalent results as a 45 minute jog…. 🙄. C’mon man, quit shilling. You must know that’s nonsense.
Useless without the subscription, and likely a separate subscription for each user 👋 bye
Hey there! The subscription covers personal accounts for up to 8 members of one household 😊
Another fancy piece of "smart" equipment. Yawn.
BUY F AMERICAN!
Dumb over priced and has a subscription. Next
Renpho ai bike is better
seems like bullshit to me...
Exercise is medicine
Once people recognize that, it’s easy to understand why dose is so critical.
The data is clear on short bursts of 100% effort.
The most common comment here is, “but I can do that on my own.” Ask yourself an honest question. Are you doing it?
If so, great.
99.9% of you aren’t, even if you think you are.
This device could fundamentally change medicine if used properly and by the masses. Kudos to Carol.
@Young Couples Party I agree this bike could be a game changer for many.- Mike, GGR Community Manager
