    The working class never bought the hater narrative. To us, he seemed like a man with a blue collar work ethic, willing to roll up his sleeves to work two jobs, making it happen, working class hero. Neon Deon is the literal manifestation, manifest destiny if you will, of the American dream.

      Literally the coolest thing ever and reporters tried spinning it as selfish and negative

    Kirk Gibson thought he was playing his 2nd best sport. At Michigan State University was a 1st team All-American WR, 3-time All-Big 10, 21 YPC Career (#1 Big 10 history and #11 NCAA history), ran sub 4.3 40 at MSU Pro-Day (all NFL teams clocked him in 4.2s 3 times) at 6'3 225, only played one year of college baseball as leverage to negotiate his NFL contract since he was projected as a top 5 pick, yet instead played so well he used football to negotiate his pro baseball contract. Then became 1989 MLB NL MVP, and hit 2 of the most epic World Series HRs off the two best relief pictures of the time (Goose Gossage in 1984 and Dennis Eckersley in 1989)

    Either way that was probably the closest we'll ever get to a player winning both a SB and WS ring.

    Loved your part on media. I am currently a student at cu and it really interesting how media narrative around. I am not saying he is perfect person but the amount of times you see someone complain about something he said is crazy. Like people got on his case for saying he believes they can win every game. While sort of ridiculous i would rather have the belief that you can win than not. Deion has always been a character in the nedia and they know they can run headlines about him cause he akways has an opinion

    • @AndThatsBaseball
      @AndThatsBaseball  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Deion only ever goes at people who deserve it, too. Rarely talks down on anyone. Just because he was confident and vocal about it, the old guard didn't like him.

    I remember Deon being good in the 92 series, I didn't realize he actually was that good.

    Love me some Deion! As a high school kid when he was doing this I was a Left handed centerfielder and a cornerback and I was a huge fan. His 1992 season was truly the best season an athlete has ever had. Being first team All-Pro is a career moment in itself but to lead up to that NFL season with a 5.5 WAR pace and lead MLB in triples? Seriously?

    However one may feel about Deion Sanders, the way he was able to be a two-sport athlete. Not to mention being the only person to compete in both a World Series and a Super Bowl is very commendable
    Bo Jackson may have been the better athlete but PrimeTime did it with more Style

    It is absolutely insane to be that good at two different sports. It would be like if someone was the best counter strike player and also a professional league of legends player at the exact same time, and doing well enough in both to make the majors and the LCS. At the same time. Not pro at one game then retiring and becoming goated at another. Both simultaneously. Now that we can picture that, know that what sanders did is even more difficult and impressive than that.

    Uhh, while i appreciate Deion's abilities & achievements, Bo was objectively the better offensive player. And i would take Bo's 1989 OR 1990 over Deion's 92 season. 89 was the only year he had over 500 plate appearances, and he hit 32 HR, had 105 RBI, slashed .256/.310/.495, had an OPS+ of 124, & stole 26 bases.
    In 90 he was better. 26 HR, 78 RBI, stole 15 bases, slashed .272/.342/.523, with an OPS+ of 142. He was a much more feared hitter, while Deion was feared 100x more on the bases than at the dish. While Deion had a higher BA & OBP, somehow he had a below-avg OPS+ of 89 (100 is league average), while Bo's OPS+ was a healthy 112.
    Just saying, these were 2 totally different kinds of players. Deion made contact more frequently, but was a banjo hitter, while Bo did damage when he connected. Deion was obviously the better fielder, although Bo's arm was deadly while he still played in the outfield. I would take Bo's baseball career over Deion's, even if it was shorter. Football? Different story, although Bo was pretty fabulous before the hip injury.

    I love your videos (especially this one), yet to bring up John Schuerholz's potentially unethical role in the still questionable "collusion scandal" of a decade earlier was an unnecessary low blow. I say potentially unethical, because I've studied the whole scandal for a long time (as well as interned at an NL team's front office when I was in graduate school), and I'm not sure the whole story wasn't entirely concocted, or at the least drastically overblown by the the player's union. Almost certainly, the union was equally guilty of grossly overstating and exaggerating to win the PR battle. Mr. Schuerholz's "collusion" didn't seem much different than the way executives interacted when horse trading during the off-season when I interned. Teams constantly try to make trades look good by saying things like, "Plus, you can resign him next year if we do this deal!" It's just par for the course.
    But, no matter. It simply isn't germane to the Deion story at all. You mentioning it reminds me of the hardly subtle passive-aggressive digs the legacy media gets on a certain political candidate. Example: "Let's examine the former President's Israel policy he created when he wasn't busy cheating on his pregnant wife..." It really just didn't belong in the video at all and only undermined your quality video.
    And, like you, I agree the Braves handled the amazing Prime Time saga awfully! They should have leaned into it, and supported Deion while he pursued one the greatest sporting accomplishments of all time if for no other reason than to show the players that you stand up for them like a family does. Further, any damage Deion did by "lying" to them was mitigated by his merchandising and box office power.

    Didn't another channel JUST cover this? Like 3-4 days ago? Not saying two channels can't cover a popular topic in the genre, just kinda odd that the same story goes dormant for years then get told twice in the span of a week. Hope whoever watched the others video gives credit to whichever one did the leg work and research.
