Great admiration for Ai, she is strong and powerful and she stepped up to be the alpha female trying to protect Kiyo and letting Shabani know that she was tired of all the drama. Elderly Nene running about doing her best to defend her precious son and Annie as always chooses to be on Team Shabani and support her dad and protector.Kiyo did not have any noticeable injuries, he was afraid because he has never been disciplined before especially from Shabani. Well done to the keepers who changed the routine to give Kiyo some alone time inside the enclosure.Thank you Something About Gorillas.
We’ll never know what happened before this filming started that day, but the zookeepers obviously knew what was going on; I really commend them for being aware and altering their routine that day with the access doors. They are so in tune with this group. I also found it interesting how Shabani didn’t go downstairs when he knew Kiyo was down there. He gave Kiyo space. On a different note: Annie is so slender! Did she just go thru a growth spurt & her weight hasn’t caught up yet? Like others have mentioned, I hope we continue to be able to watch this family for a long time to come. Thank you for providing the videos! 💕🌺🌸

😣 Oh my poor 💙 Kiyomasa. Well we knew this day would come...when there is some tension between father and son, as the dynamic is changing. Kiyomasa is starting to form into a silverback, and probably has reached sexual maturity. Shabani knows this, but still tries to maintain order in the troop. Multiple males in a troop is possible, but there can be only one dominant. 6:43 It isn't a bad thing that Kiyomasa spends some time alone indoors. Sadly because he will have to leave soon, separating from the troop for short periods of time isn't a bad thing so when he finally does leave to be paired with a mate maybe the separation won't be so traumatic. It melted my heart to see the entire troop looking for Kiyomasa. As a human we could learn something. Regardless of what happens, it is very admirable 🥰 how gorillas have an extremely strong family bond, and set aside their difference to restore unity. They love each other in spite of...and not because of. Kiyomasa sweetie, you'll be ok 😘.
Oh pls wives, son, daughter don't show grumpiness to shabani, whatever he did just to show his dominance, he is a great family leader. I love the whole family and the my sweetheart zookeepers too.
This is the first time I see a gorilla sulking 😅 this is the problem with the zoo when they can't figure out what to do with gorillas family that have matured child. They have feelings just like us & they have their own way of living. Shabani & the whole family might have spoiled Kiyomasa too much that he can't accept any intimmidation from his dad. Things were different with Gentaro who have more strict dad, he accepted that Momotaro is the leader & he need to listen & follow his daddy's rule no matter what. But it must be hard for them both because they both are maturing to become a Silverback. The zoo need to figure out how to solved this, there are so many lonely matured Gorillas at the zoo, not only in Japan. It sad if the zoo can't give them a chance to build their own family 😢
The zoo doesn't need to do anything at present. Kiyo will get over this just fine. He is just learning the natural order of things that not only Shabani is his father but furthermore his leader. Maybe the lines were a little blurry for Kiyo, so Shabani is just setting things straight, as he knows Kiyo is getting older and letting him know hierarchy. It's a learning and teaching curve from Shabani. It's not at the stage where Kiyo needs to be moved immediately, but obviously, in due course, he will be moved to start a family or bachelors.
It’s sad and interesting to watch. The family dynamics and the close bond they share is beautiful. People that think Goriillas are just animals need to watch these families. They are very emotionally intelligent as well as aware of each other. This is how things progress when there is a rising silverback ( Kiyomasa) and they know he will leave to start his own family. The same is starting to happen with Gentaro and Momotaro. In St Louis they recently moved a 7 year old black back to a bachelor group. I hope wherever Kiyomasa and Gentaro go we will get to continue watching them grow up and become just as magnificent as their dads.
@Maria Pittman the 7 yr old swap was due to the death of his father, and the troop needed a new silverback. Having the 7 yr old could have caused an issue with the integration of the new leader-not because he was of age to be moved. He is going to St. Louis' bachelor group there. Brookfield has sent several young males to SL in the past because they have an excellent gorilla program there. Nadaya and his brother were located to SL when they were younger to their bachelor group, and now Nadaya is a troop leader in Seattle. Japan doesn't seem to have facilities to do this type of separation at this time. I wish they would because sometimes the males need to be separated as they reach that age. Shabani's troop has always been close, but eventually, the up and rising male will want to do what's natural in the wild, even in captivity. Zach will do fine in SL and Brookfield gets a new leader.
Gentaro is older and has already been having his issues with Momotaro. I think that they are at a more peaceful point right now. Kiyomasa is younger and it’s just starting with them. I think that Shabani overdid it once Kiyomasa was already down but they will all learn as they go. Both fathers and both sons are wonderful gorillas. Parents and kids all make mistakes ❤
It is sad to see Kiyo huddled in a corner, but I think it's important to remember that this is all natural gorilla behavior. Kiyo isn't a cute little boy anymore, he's a mature blackback, and all his hormones and instincts are telling him to challenge his dad for leadership of the troop and get to the females. Shabani, meanwhile, is also acting instinctively as a good silverback, keeping "his" troop (the females) safe and together, and making sure the other male knows his place as submissive to dominant Shabani. In the wild, Kiyo might well have left already to find his own females and start a troop or joined a group of bachelors until he was ready to do so. The problem here is only going to get worse, unfortunately. Western Lowland gorillas will only accept one silverback per family group, so Kiyo and Shabani are going to continue to butt heads.
Thanks for posting this same message, again, Diane Fossey. Seriously, we aren't all simpletons who watch these videos. We know all about troops and silverbacks and testosterone and family structure and all that stuff. Not trying to be mean, but will you please stop acting like the primatologist addressing a bunch of children in the comment section of every one of these videos? Thanks.
@@dyates6380 I am not a formally educated primatologist and have never claimed to be, but I have learned much more about gorillas than a good percentage of people know. Not everyone who watches a video about gorillas knows enough about their physiology and behavior to really understand what's probably going on in the video, and instead interprets what they see from a very anthropocentric point of view. I comment to help people who want to learn more about these animals get more information. Not everyone watching gorilla videos "know[s] all about" everything you listed. Something that people don't understand is that gorilla sons can stay in a group with their silverback father, BUT they have to be completely subservient to him. If they aren't, they can't stay in the group. I remember watching several documentaries. In the wild, one group had four silverbacks. I assume that this was a father and his full-grown sons. There's always a dominant silverback if there are multiple males. The rest of the males aid in protecting the group. We can't say it isn't natural for a son or daughter to stay in a group. 50% of males stay in their natal group and 50% leave and end up in bachelor groups. There are instances in the wild when that happens, but often times sons and daughters leave. Not always. Daughters typically go to prevent inbreeding, it's instinctual, even with chimpanzees. Sometimes in rare instances, the daughters will stay in the group their father is running, and they are usually able to avoid mating. My understanding is that sons are like backup muscles if they stay in the group. It's possible that Shabani is simply trying to establish with Kiyomasa that he's the dominant male in the group now that Kiyomasa is an adult. Kiyomasa either does not want to accept that fact or is scared and confused and having a hard time understanding why the relationship with his dad is changing.
Was that a documentary on mountain Gorillas? I believe I saw it through you tube as I don't have the commercials, so I watch a lot on you tube. I saw a very large family that had 4 silverbacks, many females, several blackbacks and infants. There was twenty-something gorillas in the troop. It was somewhere like in Rwanda or someplace like that. The people were with guides and it was an amazing series to watch. There were 4 silverbacks in the group but only 1 was the leader of the troop. I think they said 1 was a brother of the leader and maybe the other 2 were sons or something. So I would wish that Gentro and Kiyo could learn/respect, so they can be safe while they are turning into silverbacks with their fathers. Gorillas are just fascinating.
This is a natural behaviour for Gorillas. Shabani is simply teaching the rules and the importance of hierarchy to Kiyo. He may be dad, but he is the leader. Maybe for a second, Kiyo's lines got a little blurry 🤣
Agree. Kiyo no doubt is challenging Shabani's hierarchy and that is normal at his age but as loving, playful and patient as Shabani is, he must get tough when someone tries to disrespect him and his place as the Boss and leader of the family. Kiyo is spoiled by Nene and always gets his way. That is why he is sulking and hiding now because he is not use to discipline from his Dad who will not cave in must teach him a lesson. Shabani must hold his ground because he is the Boss and his job is to keep the peace and calm in the family. If Shabani doesn't stand firm and teach Kiyo a lesson, the dynamics of the family will be a mess. As "Kells " above Wrote, Kiyo's lines got blurry and no doubt pushed Dad far enough to get this reaction. We miss a lot too. Maybe Kiyo had this coming as he can get rough with Annie and the females at times. I know sweet Kiyo is at that age where he is full of hormones and trying to find his place away from being a baby. and now a big boy. Shabani is a great Dad and I'm sure he tried to threaten his Dad too at that age and was in the same place Kiyo is now. Kiyo is just sulking and milking the attention from the females. But, he will understand he must submit to Dad and show him respect and a humble heart. I'm sure they will work it out as they always do. Kiyo, sweet boy, just remember your place and don't mess with pop's anymore. He is a great Daddy, now go say you are sorry so everyone can eat and be happy again! ;-)
@@worldpeace3958 , Thanks for the kind reply. Kiyo had me laughing a bit in this video. He reminds me of a human kid who gets punished by his parents and tries the old "I'm gonna run away, disappear, then you will all be sorry!" LOL! It's how he sits and waits for someone to find him, feel bad for him, but when they don't show up, he then has to show himself so they will run after him and make a fuss as he hides again, waiting for the attention. He just reminds me of a human kid who gets punished and is embarrassed and mad and wants to "show them" and make them feel horrible for what they did & hoping Shabani will feel so much regret for how upset he is. But, it is all good because Dad does adore Kiyomasa and no doubt wants to be the bad guy. But part of really loving your kid is to discipline them so they learn the rules of their surroundings and become better as they grow. Dad has his reasons and Kiyomasa has to suck it up, stop pouting and humble himself. Like Gentaro has to with Momotaro. Notice how Gentaro always sits near his Dad with those sad and regretful eyes after a fight with Dad? Seems Gentaro understands he went 2 far and is trying to show he is sorry. But, they always work it out. We all have our issues as teenagers, thinking we know it all, pushing out parents limits, etc. This seems like the same scenario, they are just furrier then us. Take care! ; 😘
Their gorilla facility seems large. Plenty of room for kiomasa to run and hide. I don't think they can keep kyio and shabani together much longer. Since they can't survive in the wild I'm glad they're at this zoo. They're happy and healthy 😊
They seem fine for now. This stuff is normal. They aren’t having intense physical fights. Shabani is just giving him a reminder that he’s still the boss
Gentaro is already older and has been going through this and Momotaro hasn’t done this to him. I have no idea why you would even say that. Shabani did bad here but they will all figure it out. This is new for these families. Mistakes will be made along the way. Both are great families
Fico me perguntando porque a nenê, Ai e kiyomasa não respeita tanto o shabani? A annie é a única que o respeita e eu gosto disso qual é a sua opinião??
@@dudadossantos3646 I don't really know how they think. Annie will always be daddy's little princess. Nene is old & bitter, Ai is submissive to Nene & Kiyomasa is just being a teenager. That's life..🙋
Oh dear :/ I wonder what happened to cause this rift. It’s sad seeing Kio hiding in the corner. Dad and son usually get on well. I hope they can make up.
Having seen part 1 of this event, I am glad that Kyomasa had a safe place to hide. I do think that Shabani's intimidation went a bit too far this time. I understand the hierarchy, and that this is inevitable as Kyo surging with hormones will challenge his Dad, but it was hard to watch. Kyo is such a sweet, happy, playful Blackback, and good to everyone. He is much loved in this family troop. It happens in human families too, as sons challenge their father's authority at some point. Let's hope that things settle down, that everyone cools off, and that harmony can be restored... until the next time. ❤️♥️♥️💕🇨🇦
He didn’t challenge his dad though and was sufficiently scared and subdued but Shabani kept on. I like the entire family but I think Shabani went a too far this time. Hopefully, he learned and will handle things better next time. ❤
13:08 it would be cool if they installed doors the gorillas could open and close by themselves. They could incorporate a green/red light for when the doors are unlocked/locked (to allow the keepers the ability to section off when needed.)
Que triste esse acontecimento, eles brincavam tanto, Kyomassa ama seu pai, espero que não aconteça a mesma situação que Momotaro está provocando, ignora e as vezes intimida Gentaro.
Uhm, I think Shabani has met his match with AI, she was pissed and not having him mess with her brother. I love how they all were trying to protect him from Shabani. Poor Nene, just wanted to know where her boy was, she can’t move as fast. Shabani woke up on the wrong side of the bed today and needs another cup of coffee. They had a full blown search party out looking for him. It was sad seeing Kiyomasa hiding in the blind spot, I feel so bad for him.
0:57 It took Kiyomasa 0.95 seconds to run past the windows, which I estimate is a distance of c. 9 to 10 meters, so he ran at a speed of c. 33-35 kph i.e, faster than the best human sprinter.
Deben revisar la salud de Annis Sabanis los tiene estrenados a todos es demasiado exigente con la familia me da.lastima con Nene y Annis las acorrala mucho
Poor baby Kiyomasa. I understand the need to show dominance but Shabani didn’t need to keep going and going when the little guy already submitted and was completely demoralized.
I think I see now the process of males as they become silverbacks, how they end up leaving their natal group. I mean, here with Kiyo and Shabani who have a great relationship, one thing happens that bothers Kiyomasa, and he felt the need to stay away from the group, on it's periphery, for 2 weeks. If this were in the wild, Kiyo could easily lose sight of the group. Same with other male and female gorillas at this age, especially if the relationship with their groups isn't all that good. And even if it IS great, things like this where the male or female at Kiyo's age WILL HAPPEN. And I am assuming enough incidents like this will happen to where the prospect of leaving the group will be more and more appealing, or perhaps they just spend so much time on the outskirts of the group that they naturally lose sight of the group, as their relationships deteriorate from lack of spending time with each other.
Oh, they should find for him separate place and at least one female. He is growing and will keep fighting cause it's his instinct. But it's he was so cute when he was hiding.
So Sad to see the Stress in this beautiful family. As time goes on we all know His Son may go to a ALL BOYS Camp until he can be paired with a mate. Or at least that’s how they do it here in U.S.
this is most of my childhood relived ugh, running and hiding from my medieval tyrant of a father. I feel bad for Kiyo, poor thing can't cross an ocean to escape like I had to
Finally, zookeepers notice this and give him a break. Common Zookeepers, can't you tell, Kiyomasa needs to get out of this zoo? Shabani is failing at protecting the troop when his kid start to fear him not learn from him. Living in the wild is one thing but if you're going to put gorillas locked in an area, idk, if i agree with what the zoo is doing here. Kiyomasa is old enough to have his own family isn't he?
They have got to separate Kiyomasa and Shabani. Kiyomasa is really being bullied by Shabani and it's not good for him emotionally or physically. Shabani is going to hurt him one of these days. I hope the zoo is making plans to move him because this situation isn't tenable.

I feel sorry for them in a way because they must be bored. After being there you’re in and you’re out there’s nothing else to do you already pretty much know the layout, but also on the other hand, They are safe there, FED they don’t ever have to worry about fighting for food or there won’t be enough food. They always have medical attention. That’s a very good +.

No, Shabani is very easy go and soon they will be playing again!
Omg it’s frightening to see a gorilla without their belly. Makes them looks starving 😱poor thing!! Hope everyone is getting back to normal 💜
This is a natural behaviour for Gorillas. Shabani is simply teaching the rules and the importance of hierarchy to Kiyo. He may be dad, but he is the leader. Maybe for a second, Kiyo's lines got a little blurry 🤣
With understanding but is the youth living wit fear now? Do they feel the threat ...hope not🙏😇
He is a great Daddy, now go say you are sorry so everyone can eat and be happy again! ;-)
@@maryeddy4871 Great ...thk u ..i understand more now.❤
@@worldpeace3958 , Thanks for the kind reply.
But, it is all good because Dad does adore Kiyomasa and no doubt wants to be the bad guy. But part of really loving your kid is to discipline them so they learn the rules of their surroundings and become better as they grow. Dad has his reasons and Kiyomasa has to suck it up, stop pouting and humble himself. Like Gentaro has to with Momotaro. Notice how Gentaro always sits near his Dad with those sad and regretful eyes after a fight with Dad? Seems Gentaro understands he went 2 far and is trying to show he is sorry. But, they always work it out. We all have our issues as teenagers, thinking we know it all, pushing out parents limits, etc. This seems like the same scenario, they are just furrier then us. Take care! ;
😘
@@maryeddy4871 ❤👍🙏Yes we all take good care and stay safe. Love all these truly human liked gorillas🥰
I like that basement access. If I could I would make my basement, to where you climb up to the first floor like that.
OMG 😳😳 no se quedan quietos que desesperante. Será que estoy acostumbrada a ver la familia D'jeeco son bastante quietos
This is better than any soapie 😅 Shabani you always rock my world.😘 Kudo's to the videographer.
Part 3 coming soon.🦍
Fico me perguntando porque a nenê, Ai e kiyomasa não respeita tanto o shabani? A annie é a única que o respeita e eu gosto disso qual é a sua opinião??
@@dudadossantos3646 I don't really know how they think. Annie will always be daddy's little princess. Nene is old & bitter, Ai is submissive to Nene & Kiyomasa is just being a teenager. That's life..🙋
I love the space for them
Love Shabani!
Oh dear :/ I wonder what happened to cause this rift. It’s sad seeing Kio hiding in the corner. Dad and son usually get on well. I hope they can make up.
Annie seems too skinny. Is she alright?
Kiyo was ready. See that fist shaking. THAT MEANS I WISH HE WOULD COME ROUND HERE! LOL
Could Annie be going through what Genki went through many years agi. Stress made her stop eatting.
Second....straw!!! 😂...it's cool...I love Kyoto zoo...and I'm going to love this one... everything I say I'm asking please take In consideration
Majestic creatures, don't belong in a Zoo!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
they should eat food more❤
They don’t want to eat. They left the food untouched in the previous video.
They left all that uneaten food the other day! Annie looks like she has lost a bit of weight! 😔
I love this family dearly ❤ mostly Shabani he's so strong and handsome ❤
Muy extraño qué paso?
Pretty smart older sister to try to shut the door.
Shabane is the best gorilla in the world
I love Ai.
Me too!😊
Kiyo siempre tan alegre, da mucha pena verlo con miedo y escondido. Esto tiene mala pinta.
Porque se pelean?
He Was Avoiding Shabani Like The Plague 🤣
I subscribed to your channel I will be very grateful if there is a Chinese translation,thanks...💞👍
👍
Best hide and go seek player ever 😂
0:57 It took Kiyomasa 0.95 seconds to run past the windows, which I estimate is a distance of c. 9 to 10 meters, so he ran at a speed of c. 33-35 kph i.e, faster than the best human sprinter.
Omg to smart haaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Why did they shut the door?
He was there all time ,they just didn't wanna see each other eye to eye , imagine when time comes too separation, why Annie looks so thin 😌
Tradução em Português ❤😂
Its called tough love bud if dad did not care you would never learn but i know you will make a great troop leader
Reminds me of when I was younger and I'd drink the last of the cokes and my dad would get angry so i'd run to the backyard to hide and drink it
Why is Annie is so skinny
I wonder how they will respond when it's time for them to separate.
Kiyomasa is ready to fly the coop and ready to form his own troop
Deben revisar la salud de Annis Sabanis los tiene estrenados a todos es demasiado exigente con la familia me da.lastima con Nene y Annis las acorrala mucho
2:11 they need to get Annie a buffet.
Poor baby Kiyomasa. I understand the need to show dominance but Shabani didn’t need to keep going and going when the little guy already submitted and was completely demoralized.
Pobre kiyo, me da pena.
Please take care of God creations one of the gorilla's 🦍 dose look thin very concerning god bless these Animal's I pray they are properly cared for ❤❤
not nearly enough space.. I don't understand why do this.
They all seem scared of Shabani😮
It’s heartbreaking 💔 to see how frightened he is of his dad….😢😢😢😢😢
So Sad to see the Stress in this beautiful family. As time goes on we all know His Son may go to a ALL BOYS Camp until he can be paired with a mate. Or at least that’s how they do it here in U.S.
Haaaaaa boy is he smart haaaaaaaaa!
this is most of my childhood relived ugh, running and hiding from my medieval tyrant of a father. I feel bad for Kiyo, poor thing can't cross an ocean to escape like I had to
Could be he's feeling an urge to challenge his father, and it's scaring him
Silverback drama
Kiyomasa ran so fast
I don't understand the behavior is one of the females in season?
FROM BEING IN SAME SMELLING ENCLOSURE FOR YEARS INSTEAD OF BEING ABLE TO MOVE ON, A PLACE LIKE THAT CAN ROTATE ENCLOSURES MAY HELP WITH THAT LIKE CROP ROTATION
IT'S TIME. Kiyomasa DESERVES his own life .
Fathers and son human or animal.
QUE PENA QUE TENGAN QUE ESTAR EN UNA PRISIÓN ESTOS HERMANOS MENORES!
is this shabanis way of saying he’s too big and needs to leave ? I’m not sure if gorillas doo it the same way lions do any gorilla experts know?
Poor son having to hide.
This is very sad, they need to group him with one he's not afraid of.. with new enclosure
Seems like the place needs a good cleaning
Kiyomasa seems sad
He acting like he ran away from home because he was being bullied by dad now the whole family is mad at dad 😂😂😂
I think it's time they need their own space.
I think their need more food
Yo veo estos gorilas muy dejgados 😔
