Queen Isabel de Portugal was a fine lady, well beloved by the Spanish people and when she was regent in absence of her husband, she behaved as a real Spanish Royalty defending the country from the invasion of the called El turco. The famous flowers named Carnations , were a gift from a sultan to Charles V to be offered to his beloved wife. Carnations come from Arabia, in spite that we think that the flowers are naturally from Spain.
Perhaps she was also loved because she was the granddaughter of the Catholic Monarchs, ultimately her ancestry was Spanish on the part of her mother and father, since her father's grandmother was Leonor de Aragón.
She's wearing the gown from the Titian portrait!!!! I wrote my art history essay on that one, well atleast one fifth of the essay, but still!! It's soooooo pretty!
They needed to put a handsome man as the main character, but the real Charles V was quite ugly, like almost all the Habsburgs. Isabella of Portugal, on the other hand, was considered by many the prettiest woman of the entire European royalty at that time.
I understand that in reality, Carlos and Isabel married on the same day they met. I've read a translation of an excerpt from one of the chronicles that describes their first meeting and it sounds very much like Romeo and Juliet. :)
Somwhere I read that they married the next day after their meeting, and somewhere that the same day they met. So it was a bit different from what we see in the series, but that's true that it had to be rather quiet because of the death of Charles's sister. And I also read about their first meeting when they were immediately on good terms, and they also kissed at their first meeting, so that was accurate in the series in episode 8 :)
Lili1127 the fun of history - different sources can say different things about the same event lol. Yes, but I also understand that there were celebratory festivities held during their honeymoon in Granada. The way the series portrays their first meeting really is beautiful, especially with the accuracy regarding the kiss, but also because of how Carlos declares that he has already fallen in love with Isabel and he swears that he will always love her, which, as we all know, is a vow he never broke. :)
DarkDancer06 I am so happy to see you and Lily being into this series. I wish we have some like this in Manila. It is quite notable to get good actors. The leads have good onscreen rapport

Like his son married his double cousin then later his cousin, their son again married a cousin, their son married a cousin and finally that resulted in Charles II. I mean at that point their family tree was a circle 😅

Julio Salazar wasn’t Queen Victoria beautiful when she was younger? She only turned ugly due to aging, right?
