  • Discontinued record from the 1962 from Germany. I promise I've heard some of this music at Oktoberfest. Great classic music.

Carnival and Oktoberfest are two very different traditions. Different regions, different season in the year.

Thanks-you should read the comments where I addressed that below. BUT! I think this is the best way to share this great album.

Carnival has nothing to do with the Oktoberfest. Carnival Time starts in late February and ends in early March, while the Oktoberfest commences in late September and ends in early October.

I didn’t know that-I swear I heard some of those songs at Oktoberfest in Germany. The first song on side one, and the first song on side two for sure anyway.

@@enrichmond I am sure I heard _Jerusalem_ performed at some funeral. This, however, is not to say that it is a piece of funeral music.
Most of the songs here have no specific connection with either the Oktoberfest or the Karneval, which, by the way, are two very different traditions.
3:12, for example, is a military marching song, while 5:46 is a traditional student song.

@@kurtgodel5236Thank you for the education. This album is just great though. Someone was selling it on eBay. Can you recommend a good older traditional German Oktoberfest album? (Without Sweet Caroline and Atemlos durch die Nacht?)

@@enrichmond You're welcome. Thank you for your upload.
Unfortunately, I can't help you with your request.
For whatever reasons, your clip appeared in my youtube recommendations, so I gave it a try (and found it rather enjoyable), but my knowledge of Oktoberfest albums, if there are such things, is practically nonexistent.

@@kurtgodel5236 Thank you both for your comments and the music. @enrichmond, I think in your quest for "Oktoberfest music," you might consider exploring traditional or folk/volk southern German, in particular Bayern (Bavaria), Swabisch (Swabian), and neighboring districts. As Kurt pointed out, simply because this music is popular at Oktoberfest does not make exclusively so. People are simply having a good time and singing songs (lieder) that everyone knows. You might also consider exploring schlager lied, which are often sung at Oktoberfest.
As for Carnival, Karneval is mostly Rhineland with the notable exception of Mainz. Fasching tends to be southern, but can be found in northern cities and towns. Mainz claims oldest Fassenacht tradition. I was there in high school when the city celebrated its 1000 year in 1968. The point is, the pre-Lenten holiday tradition is found throughout Germany and if you don't have a good time, you only have yourself to blame. There are some specifically Fasching songs, but they usually have political, particularly revolutionary roots. Hope this helps! Vielen glück!
