Regardless of social media and other media taking his comments out of context, he is still out of order. The premise of the question requires more intelligence and thought than he could muster. For that reason, have a seat Sir. Over there.
“I absolutely want to go back to the America where women couldn’t vote,” Robinson said in a newly resurfaced video of his remarks at a March 2020 event hosted by the Republican Women of Pitt County.
He should have said “neither.” But when posed with a dichotomous question like the one asked of Robinson, the natural psychological response is to block out other options and look critically at the two choices you’ve been given. To me, all this shows is that Mr. Robinson did not anticipate being presented with a “false dichotomy.” The implicit “rule” of a dichotomous question is that there are no other options. People who follow the rules then answer accordingly. The big takeaway from this, in my opinion, is that Mr. Robinson will be disadvantaged by his lack of experience playing political games.
Black people were swinging from Trees During the same period of time when women couldn’t Vote. That was a stupid question You needed to have probed that question harder. Both issues happened prior to 1920
I see a lot of people here defending him by saying "But that's how a 'Would you rather' question works!" So you mean like the questions schoolchildren ask, like "Would you rather be eaten by a shark or a lion?"...You can say that those questions are a "thing," but they're no less IDIOTIC! It's not a serious question to ask a serious politician... It's meaningless! Why would he even play along with that, just say "That's stupid, obviously neither." "Yeah, but you HAVE TO pick one!" "No, I don't. Next question."
Yes... but if pointedly asked today JUST that question.... what would his answer be? Also.... any politician knows that saying this in ANY context is ridiculous. He was looking for something
Thank you for fact checking even when that goes largely unappreciated. People on the right seem to hate being fact-checked on their nonsense, and based on the comments section for this video, so do people on the left. I appreciate this dedication to the truth whether it supports my world-view or not, so thank you.
At least we agree that there is "nonsense" on the left. Thank you (also) for acknowledging that there are different worldviews backing each set of political candidates, parties, and legislative goals.
These comments make my brain. We are lost as a society. If you have to choose one, neither isn't an option. Stop trying to demonize someone for actually answering a question as opposed to someone who dodges them all.
Time to stick it to the rich leftist in this State Lt. Gov. Robinson. You have had my vote in the past, and my friends and family will continue to vote for you.
Whoa, what kind of News ‘fact check’ is this? Sorry dude still comes of sounding bad. The correct answer, and yes there is a *correct* response, is to first call out the question for its ridiculousnesses and then say you will fight for the civil rights of all Americans!!!
Mark Robinson won both his primary and general election for lieutenant governor here in NC against a field of over a dozen different primary "MeToo!™" challengers, with comparatively little funding and virtually no media support, because of grassroots organizations that worked outside of the mainstream blockade and got out the vote. Don't underestimate him or his team.
I'm not a Conservative and don't care for Mr. Robinson but I felt there was more to what he said about women not being able to vote than what social media is circulating. Context and fact checking is a must no matter if it's someone who has the same views as you or not.
The contest actually makes the whole comment WORSE, not better. America when women couldn't vote was the SAME America when Blacks were being 'hung from trees" all over the South. So no matter what answer he gave, he wants to go back to an America when non-Whites were murdered by whites with impunity.
To add a little more context . Robinson was trying to make the point that Republicans in 1920 fought for social change and for the right of women to vote . What's missing is that the Republican party then was a progressive liberal party. THe conservative party fought against the rights of women to vote, the Southern Democrats were the conservative party not the Republican party as Robinson suggests. Robinson is being a bit dishonest here when he attempts to align the modern Republican party with the Republican Party of 1920. Ever since LBJ signed the equal rights act conservatives have fled the Democratic party for the Republican party . Mark Robinson in no way supports a woman's right to make her own reproductive healthcare decisions.
Thank you for reminding folks of history. That maybe should have been in this verify clip as well, rather than just providing the rest of his statement. I am certain that many Americans have likely forgotten this US History lesson.
"Mark Robinson in no way supports a woman's right to make her own reproductive healthcare decisions." Healthcare does not involve the intentional killing of human beings. Thanks for clarifying on just what side you stand, though.
You didn’t mention in 1915, Republicans were a very different part that not At the Civil Rights movement of the 1960’s - The racist switched sides with most going to Republicans
No he was set up..I do hope that he watches out for sli leftists tactics in the future but in reality he's for the people BLACK,WHITE,ASIAN, INDIAN, MAN,AND WOMEN...REALLY DO YOU THINK THAT THOSE KIND OF STATEMENTS WOULD BE MADE IN A VOTING SEASON...
He clearly said that at the time women couldn't vote, Republicans were working for real social change including the women's right to vote. He's a Republican and he was saying that Republicans were right to fight for the woman's right to vote. Whether the Republicans actually were fighting for that, or whether the Democrats were fighting for it I don't know, but the point is he thinks that it's a good thing that women have the right to vote and that if he lived at a time when they didn't have that right, he would have been fighting for it.
He is a sanctimonious self indulgent man, addicted to porn, and apparently blames women for that. Time to study this hypocrites lies and omissions, let alone his emissions, which deserve an even greater study
But they didn't go quite far enough. You see Robinson wanted to point out that the 1920 Republican PArty was aligned with the 2024 Republican PArty. They were not. THe conservative party in 1920 was the democratic party not the Republican Party. The conservative party squarely opposed women voting. He was careful not to use political orientation in the discussion but instead used party affiliation.
That is the weakest argument for what he said. Actually that is no argument for what he said. Why news media grades these types of people on a curve is beyond me. That we are taking it out of context? Give me a break. Fact check my butt. How about all the other horrendous things he has said against gays and how vile he is overall but you're going to give him a pass on this? Give me a break.
Robinson knew that after the gays were given the right to marriage over all fifty states back in 2015, it would not be long before the alphabet community stepped up indoctrination (and conversion) of other people's children to their lifestyle in their previously safe spaces.
This guy claims he is Chrisitan. And the context thing is an excuse. You better believe he would push for it. I've heard this ones soeeches a few times, and he seems deeply disturbed. His traumatic childhood experiences have made him full of rage and hate. He may be alot of things, but I don't see Christianity in him. He doesn't talk with mercy and love Jesus would whatsoever.
I'm presuming (correctly?) that you identify yourself with Christ... Is it "mercy and love" which encourages (Robinson's opponent) Josh Stein to support women consenting to have their unborn children legally killed at anytime prior and leading up to birth? 🤔
There were a lot of ways he could have answered the question that didn't involve either scenario... Like saying "Neither, because in America we move forwards, not backwards, and I believe that myself and the Republicans will move us into a brighter future." But no... He said "a time when women couldn't vote, because the Republicans brought about real social change"

I've heard some of his speeches, and it all sounds hateful. He seems to be resentful and angry, and if he could pull it off, I have no doubt he would take womens rights to vote away. He already thinks we should all be at home barefoot and pregnant. But, who knows how NC will vote. They may want this sort of extreme.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I can’t believe this new station is condoning what he said and backing him
Look into Sinclair media and how they own 60-70 of the local TV broadcast. A lot of right-wingers like to use the clip of all the different news shows saying the same thing at once but what they don't tell you is that the owner of all those new stations is a MAGA billionaire. Think John Oliver did a really good piece on it
He could have said we're not going back to either. And Finish with "what a stupid question".
So , now we know he prefers the time when there was slavery.
Damn. Women couldn’t vote. GOP going to become Grand dad’s party.
This aged like fine wine 😂😂😂
No, the right answer would be I would not go back to either
That wasn't the questions she posed. "Neither" wasn't an option. He chose the lesser of two evils, hypothetically. Grow up.
@@BigBadBrainshe could have said neither.. no one said "you have to choose between these equally shitty realities." He chose to answer the way he did...
No spinning his way out of it.

He should have simply said neither
He shouldnt have answered at all...when in fact, he should have went around the question like what normally politicians do...
Whether he said it or not, he's 100% correct.
That's not a defense since both of those were at the same time.
Women are the reason women can vote. Both parties resisted that change.
Didn’t men have to give women the right to vote? 🤔
No, men are the reason woman can vote. Woman didn't want to vote because of the other responsibilities that were required when you become a registered voter like mandatory fire brigades.
That is a flat out lie or you are extremely ignorant on your history.
No. Conservatives resisted the change. Women voting was not a conservative idea.
Incorrect, white knight cucks are to blame.
I'm pretty sure the answer is neither. JS.
I guess this dude doesnt know that that means black people were being hung at that time. That was an ignorant question.
"swinging from trees"
No, that's not a tilted question at all....
Regardless of social media and other media taking his comments out of context, he is still out of order. The premise of the question requires more intelligence and thought than he could muster. For that reason, have a seat Sir. Over there.
Maybe you don't understand the word 'context', or maybe you are for blacks swinging from trees. Have a seat.
Thank you! Well said!
Both issues happened prior to 1920
If he were a Democrat this would be treated like so many Biden comments.....excused.
😂 nice try.

That's.. dissapointing.
I see a lot of people here defending him by saying "But that's how a 'Would you rather' question works!"
So you mean like the questions schoolchildren ask, like "Would you rather be eaten by a shark or a lion?"...You can say that those questions are a "thing," but they're no less IDIOTIC!
It's not a serious question to ask a serious politician... It's meaningless!
Why would he even play along with that, just say "That's stupid, obviously neither." "Yeah, but you HAVE TO pick one!" "No, I don't. Next question."
unless they go MAGA
Women should not VOTE. If you do army time, then you are allowed to vote
So what about women who are born with a disability and they can’t serve in the military? did you think that through?
1:20 wasn't that the same time period?
If you don’t understand the context of the statement, I’d love to laugh at you 😂
Yes... but if pointedly asked today JUST that question.... what would his answer be?
Also.... any politician knows that saying this in ANY context is ridiculous. He was looking for something
Uh, WCNC? There IS no context for that except that this guy is shady and crazy. Thank you xD
Stop trying to demonize someone for actually answering a question as opposed to someone who dodges them all.
uncle Ruckus is real
There you go with the racist trope
that context does not make it better at all
God Bless Mark Robinson
I don’t like those red paints on typing key pad. Too evil this woman is satanic
Time to stick it to the rich leftist in this State Lt. Gov. Robinson. You have had my vote in the past, and my friends and family will continue to vote for you.
Just show us the video stop telling us what we should see what’s on the video and show it to us
Whoa, what kind of News ‘fact check’ is this? Sorry dude still comes of sounding bad. The correct answer, and yes there is a *correct* response, is to first call out the question for its ridiculousnesses and then say you will fight for the civil rights of all Americans!!!
That guy is no way going to prevail over Stein....and hey Robinson, lets fo back to the America where you could not vote either dude
I've been trying to find that speech and am not having any luck finding it.
Except what he said was absolute BS.
@@toddwilliams2124 Very true but I wanted to hear the stupidity out of his mouth before I commented. 🤷♀
He still sounded idiotic, to be kind.
The left probably had video taken down so fact checkers would have trouble correcting thier slander...
Really based.
Good job for not slandering Mr. Robinson.
Wish he was Trump’s VP
You better read up on this porn addicted clown
Thank you for this explanation. Robinson is THE MAN. Yes, I am a woman.
Thank you for putting the whole context out there. I wish there were more trustworthy news outlets like yours.
The contest actually makes the whole comment WORSE, not better.
America when women couldn't vote was the SAME America when Blacks were being 'hung from trees" all over the South.
So no matter what answer he gave, he wants to go back to an America when non-Whites were murdered by whites with impunity.
Thanks for providing some objective context.
Haven't heard him defend that remark or rebutt...
NEITHER!!!
Thank you for telling the whole story and giving the context. It makes all the difference.
“Tokens get spent”
« Taken out of context » is a polite way to say the quote has been *truncated*
Its never what they said when they get caught saying it.
The turn happened after JFK was elected and snowballed from there.
Thank you for reminding folks of history. That maybe should have been in this verify clip as well, rather than just providing the rest of his statement. I am certain that many Americans have likely forgotten this US History lesson.
"Mark Robinson in no way supports a woman's right to make her own reproductive healthcare decisions."
Healthcare does not involve the intentional killing of human beings.
Thanks for clarifying on just what side you stand, though.
You didn’t mention in 1915, Republicans were a very different part that not At the Civil Rights movement of the 1960’s - The racist switched sides with most going to Republicans
"... and we'll have these n_ _ _ _ _s voting Democrat for the next two-hundred years." - Democrat U.S. President Lyndon Baines Johnson.
Satan will attack Gods people. Go Mark, stand up for God.
How I took this was him choosing living to fight to vote over ppl dying.
He is a sanctimonious self indulgent man, addicted to porn, and apparently blames women for that. Time to study this hypocrites lies and omissions, let alone his emissions, which deserve an even greater study
He was set up. Public speakers need to part their words much more carefully.
Great job reporting. Its encouraging to see journalists doing their job with integrity.
It's a rare thing and sorely missed.
@@stevenread5473 That's not the poing
Fact check???? Hilarious!
BS
😂 its like asking people to choose between kicking a dog or throwing a cat and then flaming them for reluctantly choosing a hypothetical.
There were a lot of ways he could have answered the question that didn't involve either scenario... Like saying "Neither, because in America we move forwards, not backwards, and I believe that myself and the Republicans will move us into a brighter future."
But no...
He said "a time when women couldn't vote, because the Republicans brought about real social change"
So the problem with trying to intelligently justify bigotry is that bigotry and intelligence are on opposite ends of the spectrum.
