Nothing beats the old skool high performance cars. The only traction control back then was your right and left foot. lol. The Lotus Cortina, Lotus Sunbeam, Mk1 & Mk2 escort RS Mexico. All the old skool stuff is just awesome. This kind of rebuild HAS to be done if you want to enjoy driving them today for a multitude of reasons, safety being foremost. This Mk1 is an absolute stunner. 👌
Wow!!! Awesome I never really liked the look of the MK1 but this one is great. Think it has the look of an American muscle car for some reason. GREAT JOB
How is that not a fast engine? It's a 225 Bhp Nat Asp YB, that's more than enough to make a Mk1 Escort go pretty quick. Should be pretty reliable as well as its not really lary.
I've driven a 200bhp Escort, they are very light, trust me, 225bhp is plenty in this car. Any more than 250-260bhp and it upsets the balance of the car. I know lots of guys do it, but they're too much of a handful to drive on the street. Ask anyone who rallies an Escort, 250bhp is as much as you need. You reach a point where more power doesn't necessarily mean faster. Cheers.
+andygasson Yeh 20yrs ago a 200bhp Escort (about when I got my mk2 then rs2000 few years later) were the destroyers of world's, but now they would get taken by a chipped v6 camry or any number of new hot hatches. You can have it set up with adjustable boost control running say 300bhp to 450bhp at the push of a button, in the cabin. Only problem is you need to find a good mechanic who specializes/tunes these setup. 200bhp escort is a heap of fun, 400bhp will leave you howling like a wear wolf.... While your driving.... garenteed.
And so what? Not everyone wants to build a 1/4 mile monster. Some people want the car to be more atmospheric. A 225hp engine in a 800-900kg car is plenty and N/A cars have better throttle response and sound better. I think this car is awesome, because it's almost like the original rally car for the road. I'm planning to build mine very similarly.
MY FAVORITE ROAD/TRAK INTERIOR, GOOD LOOKING CAR....JUST NEEDS A GARRETT TURBO TO UP IT TO 300bhp OR 450bhp (keeping everybody in check, on the Autobahn to Nuremberg circuit)
The music in this VT is absolutely woefull........ffs who in their right mind would put such s***e music to a beautiful piece of re engineered history.?
I drive a 1985.5 Ford Escort 1.9L L4. I will be making many modifications in the next couple of years. First of which is a custom manufactured centrifugal supercharger.
whats the fun in owning a mk1 with whatever engine fitted if you dont drive it? rain + escort = smiles.....and yes i have owned one!....stunning car though!!
Lovely car but why not turbo, waste of power, engine sounds rattly as hell, Door gaps look shite too, all that money and didn't get the fundamentals right Confused

One of the few Cossie engines converted to atmospheric.
They usually keep the turbo engine in there.

How much does it cost to build an excort but use 50mm sidedraft Webbers instead of the throttle bodies in 🇺🇸 US Dollars?.

Boost sounds like an karcher vacuum cleaner.
That would ruin it

Ok, so what is the difference between an Aussie spec 49 and a UK Escort ?
Beija Flor very little the uk ones were type 49 too
Probably easier to find an Australian body shell that isn't rusted out. That'd be my guess.
