But that's why I love Kiryu! Just from looking at him you think he's going to be a AAAsshole like Aden Pierce who seems to be more villainous than the actual villains but it's amazing just how much fun he seems to be having. Like how invested he gets in racing toy cars.
This mirrors my impression of the character. I played Yakuza 0 first, and immediately didn't like him much because I thought he was gonna be the type of character to beat the shit out of random passerbys because they looked at him funny. Many hours later, I discover he's the type of kindhearted goofball that he'd save the life of a chicken, name him "Nugget", and get him a job managing real estate
but in yakuza 1 you are pretty much taking care of a little girl which end becoming your daughter for the rest of the franchise.....oh i think i get it.
My bench is dead! He's gone! But he's right here on my back. And here in my heart! My bench... IS THE BENCH THAT WILL PIERCE THE HEAVENS! GIGA BENCH BREEEEAAAAK!
Well she’s hairy, she kind of acts as a mom and she’s at least the second most serious character in the series (after young Balder). Everyone in her life is somehow weirder than her. Rodin takes the cake, he spends half of the second game dressed as Santa Claus.
"This is why i love the yakuza series: they’re hilariously dumb and yet so earnest" Thats exactly why the resident evil series is my guilty pleasure. Exactly.
I bought Yakuza 6 over God of War. I know people want me to feel buyers remorse and regret but I just can't. Yakuza games hearken back to that crazy era of games. A time where we saw a plumber in blue overalls butt stomp a mutated turtle to save a princess and a talking mushroom and said "Sure, makes enough sense to me."
I just love Yakuza. One of the best thing about the story is that it really makes the characters feel alive and human. Also even after 6 games the plot twists still surprise me
I like the fact that the Yakuza series is all about disco-stomping and smashing people over the head with bicycles yet your main takeaway is that the principal character is such a great father figure. I dread to think what in your upbringing let to that deduction as your dear father knocks other fathers into the nearby trees by using a park bench as a fucking baseball bat and then scowls at their children in a very disapproving way. (J/K obviously)
Not in this context, this isn't a criticism about a game mechanic or plot holes He's a dad since the first game, and you're going to criticize him for being a dad in the later game? like that doesn't even make sense
I think the best side activity in Yakuza 6 is the bar mini game where you have to befriend all the locals down the local. I love it because of all the wacky, bizarre side nonsense Kiryu gets up to that one seems the most normal and age appropriate. Old man Kiryu finishing a tough day smashing street thugs teeth in with bikes, benches and other stuff beginning with B and then nipping down the pub for a few shorts and a nice chinwag.
I will say this, this game had one of the only boss fights that actually scared me for how i never saw this character as a villain, i swear to God his boss fight reminded me of the Tonberry's from Final Fantasy except if they were ninjas.
Yahtzee, if you run a full Umami build, you can unlock King of Flavor mode. It was a bad design choice, but they locked the Shin Cheffing Tourney behind that path, and that's where all the REAL action is in this game.
you should make a sequel to your hats game in which after every two hats you have to chase a toddler off the screen. forget to do this and you grow a beard and proceed to learn useless life lessons for the next two minutes.
This game did have a lot of fun glitches he forgot to mention. Punching someone in into the maps ceiling, it is like trying to sent someone into the atmosphere with a punch and realizing there is no sky.
on one hand yahtzee is absolutely right about the final boss being a cakewalk on the other hand, I would've called bullshit if Little Baby Iwami actually posed a threat to Kiryu
Hello Ben, I just recently subscribed and I love every zero punctuation video you've made. Especially with every game I've played, and even then I can't get enough. You see, you have this sarcastic wit that I hope to develop as I get older. I immediately became a fan when I first saw zero punctuation. Please don't ever stop making videos.
Great video. Personally I did like the main story of Yakuza 6 more than Yakuza 0. They did great with the lessons on family to other characters and also to Kiryu. Him finally acknowledging the person who he'd consider his son was an awesome end.
I think why it's so lesser is because Kiryu and even Majima are getting to feel that they're OLD! If they make one more game with them, I wouldn't be surprised to see them kick about several dudes in the face then have a big crack in their back and need to lie down for a few hours! 0 is so good cause they were young and in the funky 80s, where stuff gets crazy and that crazy is fun!
"I wouldn't be surprised to see them kick about several dudes in the face then have a big crack in their back and need to lie down for a few hours". If Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid 4) can pull it off, so can Kiryu. Edit: Also Vulpez: I think Kiryu is in his 50s in the 6th game, quite a way off from 70.
I dunno about everyone else's method for the street gang thing but I just spawned grenadiers and Daigo Dojima for more grenade throwers. What is strategy? I never met her
I love it when you enjoy a game. I genuinely like to fall asleep to your reviews of subnautica and attack on titan, I just wish your portal review had it's own episode...
Yahtzee, If you liked zero more, there's a good reason why. Despite release dates, it's actually newer, sega just brought it over first for some reason. I'd recommend kiwami 1 and 2, I think you'll find them expansions on zero, instead of subtractions. When you get around to them. Kiwami 2 isn't actually out yet.
For a brief second I thought Yahtzee was doing the "I don't want to spoil but" *tells literally the twist* thing, and I got *so excited* to play a game about a giant robot brontosaurus.... Shame, guess I won't be playing Dadkuza then =(
Kiryu takes care of the baby but he's not the baby's dad. He's been a dad figure since 2005/6 (whichever year yakuza 1 came out) with haruka though. Albeit not her blood father.
The twist is that it’s a world war 2 Yamato class super battle ship that was built during the wars with blood money I’m not kidding this is the real twist and I know this video is old but I had to let people know
Yeah, mechanically the combat isn't as interesting--it's more geared toward swarm battles and less toward individual combat and it's all a bit unrefined. I will say (however) that the things that you do outside of combat, exploring the city and sitting down at restaurants and shopping and all, are generally a bit more interesting this time around. As is basic exploration (if there's a small gap between buildings in a dead-end alley, Kiryu can probably shimy through it to the open street beyond). Too bad we can't have Yakuza 6 and Yakuza 0 do the Fusion Dance and merge into one big, seamless, absolutely perfect Yakuza game with Zero's combat and 6's explorative stuff. - Lewis
3:23 ok, let me put that to the test with the latest game, Infinite Wealth (spoilers, obvs) 1. Ichiban meeting Ebina, I guess? If you want the growly stare thing, when Kiryu met him and asked him to get off the chair may count, but it's midway through the game. 2. The Millenium Tower raid is exactly like that, with a new version of the official we-re-done-fking-around theme, Receive You. Only Kiryu dons the suit, though. Also, yes, I didn't expect skinny guy from Godzilla Minus One (or Jin from Lost if you chose the dub) to be that ripped.
I'd be interested to know of what he thought of the Yakuza remake (Kiwami) games since they have already done the first 2 and I think they said they planned to remake all the games up to 5.
iirc the reason why 6 has less content than its predecessors is because it was their first game on a new engine, the Dragon Engine, and they were still getting used to it. that being said, 6's "fishing" minigame (which is actually an on rails shooter) and its baseball manager minigame are both really cool
I'm really interested in this gamer dad phenomena, and interested to see what it evolves into as the generation gets older. Are we going to get gamer grandpa games, gamer geriatric old man games?
"The bench was in you all along", Beautiful Q_Q
That's what was in Pandora's Box in God of War 3! A bench!
It all makes sense now!
he's right about that fight, too...
owo
That comment will never not be funny.
But that's why I love Kiryu! Just from looking at him you think he's going to be a AAAsshole like Aden Pierce who seems to be more villainous than the actual villains but it's amazing just how much fun he seems to be having. Like how invested he gets in racing toy cars.

Aiden Pearce is supposed to be a deconstruction of the anti-hero trope.
@@ethanedwards3357 if he is then he's not a very good one.
@@roarshach13 So, making your own sister and nephew have to leave town due to your wanted status by the police isn't a good deconstruction?
@@ethanedwards3357 no, it isn't
A Yakuza game about taking care of a baby is incidentally the most Yakuza thing ever.
Shame you can't then throw the baby at enemies and have them explode.
Aren't yakuza a criminal organization.
What do you mean?
("The most Yakuza thing ever" in the context of the Yakuza series, not the actual Yakuza)
but in yakuza 1 you are pretty much taking care of a little girl which end becoming your daughter for the rest of the franchise.....oh i think i get it.
The bench was the friends we made along the way
Wait... Isn't that what One Piece is supposed to be ?! I'm confused !
My bench is dead!
He's gone!
But he's right here on my back.
And here in my heart!
My bench...

what kind of bench are you?
Strength, Defense, Sage, Rosemary and Umami... I don't have Thyme for this...
Ask our fast-talking host here, I'm only following his recipe ^^
"Does Bayonetta 1 count?" Seriously after playing the game about 4 times I still don't know
Well Bayo 2 does
It does now.
Hairy? Yes. Mum? yes. Serious? Not on your life.
Well she’s hairy, she kind of acts as a mom and she’s at least the second most serious character in the series (after young Balder). Everyone in her life is somehow weirder than her.
Rodin takes the cake, he spends half of the second game dressed as Santa Claus.

And Enzo acts like a person who never got the memo that auditions for “The Godfather” ended decades ago.
"This is why i love the yakuza series: they’re hilariously dumb and yet so earnest"
Thats exactly why the resident evil series is my guilty pleasure. Exactly.
Honestly never thought about RE like that. I think those are the reasons I like it!
Also, Hi from the future! 2020 licked balls.
I bought Yakuza 6 over God of War. I know people want me to feel buyers remorse and regret but I just can't. Yakuza games hearken back to that crazy era of games. you made the correct choice. God of War is honestly boring at times.
It’s simple get both when possible
Daniel Gamboa shut up dude, you are just a yakuza fanboy
sorry you don't like my opinion but i'll keep commenting what i feel like regardless of what you think.
I can't feel good about playing Yakuza 6 until I start clearing the games before.
I just love Yakuza. One of the best thing about the story is that it really makes the characters feel alive and human. Also even after 6 games the plot twists still surprise me
I believe "Dream Daddy" also focuses on serious hairy dads, but in a completely different way.
Yeah it focuses on dating dads

Blake Belladonna I never commented on the quality of his fathering but he does it in almost every game
Man got 10 kids
just because a game has been doing something since the first one doesn't mean that it's clear of criticism

This is one of the series I need to get into. This and persona
Pajamapants Jack I'd like to get into your profile picture
Great taste 👌
Both are good.
For yakuza, i reccomend starting at 0.
For persona, 3, 4, and 5 are great starters, since you dont need to start at 1.
Got into Yakuza but I’m not getting into Persona. Don’t like the turn based gameplay or the anime high school aspect.
it doesn’t really matter where you start in persona because I don’t think any of them are really connected storywise.

“The Song Of Life” is a hilarious whimsical subtitle for the name “Yakuza”. But I guess that’s the Yakuza series for you.
Blimey they skipped straight from zero to six? When will the madness stop?
Zero is a prequel that came after 5

"The bench was in you all along". That is both strangely beautiful and hilarious :)
A “West Side Story-themed funeral” is something I would actually like to see.

There's something about hearing Yahtzee rip games apart that really makes me relax...
"The Song of Life" would've made a much better subtitle for that Yakuza zombie game.
brainflash1 because nothing says. "Song of life" like shooting thousands of zombies
SBFH01 It is like when Raiden says something like "Mortal Kombat is not a fight to the death but a fight for life" in the Mortal Kombat movie.
you should make a sequel to your hats game in which after every two hats you have to chase a toddler off the screen. forget to do this and you grow a beard and proceed to learn useless life lessons for the next two minutes.
Yahtzee describing the Yakuza games in a nutshell nearly killed me.
The bench was in you all along - Still coming up with great quotes all these years later.
You mean there's a Yakuza *_6?!_*
Yakuza actually started on the PS2
It's a year and a half old rather than two, but yeah. The localized versions of this series tend to be really, really delayed.

I'm sorry Dead Rising but I've found another series where I can beat the shit out of people with benches.
Yakuza brings new meaning to getting benched.
I just finished Yakuza 6 and holy shit the giant robot brontosaurus wasn’t even that far off from the real thing.
This doesn't count as a dad game. Kiryu doesn't growl "BOI" every five minutes.
"The bench was in you all along!"
I laughed so hard I cried.

Zack Smith I did not know that. Still, they are very old. Like, they're reaching their 70s!

If Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid 4) can pull it off, so can Kiryu.

Madness1 I also did not know that. Thank you for telling me, I'm pretty uninformed and forgetful with these things.
In 6, Kiryu is 48, Majima is 52.
You would like Kiwami 2 a lot then. Majima is back there crazy as ever.
I dunno about everyone else's method for the street gang thing but I just spawned grenadiers and Daigo Dojima for more grenade throwers. What is strategy? I never met her
Haven't watched in awhile and god its nice to hear that song again

Ah another game with angry men in suits beating up other angry men in suits
Best game i've played this year
wait till you play Kiwami 2.
Daniel Gamboa apperantly kiwami 2 wasn't very good
WHAT!? who said that? lol
Daniel Gamboa a lot of yakuza fans
Daniel Gamboa not a bad game just not up to standards of yakuza
"that just wreck's shit like a high fiber diet"
Wuh, guh, nani?

DiscipleofPentagon Quick! Make a remix out of this!
and now yahtzee is a serious hairy dad
Oh man, this one was extra funny, good job Yahtz
"Wilma-chan"
I'm dying right now. My sides are killing me.
Been waiting for this for a wile glad it's up now
The only thing I hate about Yakuza is that it took me so long to get into the franchise.

Mordirit Why is 2018 the Year of the Dad? God of War, Yakuza 6, The Last of Us 2. It’s fucking daddy season
Is Joel alive in Last of Us 2? Or is it all about Ellie now?
More like Grandpakuza since Kiryu is 48 year old grandpa
There is a sizable demographic of young men who desire father figures.
By the way, clean your room!
Kiryu takes care of the baby but he's not the baby's dad. He's been a dad figure since 2005/6 (whichever year yakuza 1 came out) with haruka though. Albeit not her blood father.
Not every new game in a series has to be the best one yet. This game gives you more Yakuza, and I'll take that any day.
The Bayonetta joke at the beginning got funnier the more I thought about it
That is a weirdly accurate description of looking after babies.....I hope their is a toddler feeding mini game
Wilma-chan made me laugh way too much
That just wrecks shit like a high fiber diet.
Loading....
[frantic laugh]
Good one.
Ayy I got here early, screw prepping for my exams tomorrow.
I feel like Yahtzee accidentally predicted the premise of Amnesia Rebirth with his "Serious Hairy Mums" joke
“The bench was in you all along” I’m dying 😂
Now Yahtzee is a serious harry dad
I must have missed the stream of you playing this one, excellent work regardless.
"Games in which jaded and battle-weary mums escort their helpless child..." Not gonna lie, I'd play the hell out of that.
the best part about the chatrooms was the other people in there. one had a robot and it was hilarious
The twist is that it’s a world war 2 Yamato class super battle ship that was built during the wars with blood money I’m not kidding this is the real twist and I know this video is old but I had to let people know
Ben, never change. Please, never change.
Heh. Watching this exactly 2 years later, having finished the game and caught up on the franchise, ready for Yakuza 7.
So I looked up what that “robot brontosaurus” actually was...
How the hell do you fucking *LOSE* a Yamato-class‽
ONO MICHIO.
" O NO!! "
Nice to michi
Best sidemission ever. I love you all!

i thought you said meth at first XD good luck with your math problems!

Just bought Yakuza 0 today. Can't wait to try it after I played Spiritfarer
I don’t give a fuck what anyone says. I loved 6, I had a lot of fun with it. That Ono-Michio side quest was hilarious.

Honestly, I'd be down for a "hairy mom game" for once.
as soon as he was talking about the hairy mum I thought Bayonetta and I haven't even played it.
Yakuza games are a breath of freash air in the AAA game space
Cliffsnotes version: Yakuza 0, but this time it's got a SIX on the end!
He loves Zero so I kinda wonder his take on Kiwami and the upcoming Kiwami 2
Maybe you could get mom games from japan, but as it stands there are just some anime with that old grizzled MoM storyline, taking care of they kid
