Agreed wholeheartedly. This game brought me to this channel but I'm looking at the older stuff and really digging the way he approaches builds. He makes me want to play Pillars again.
This is great. I've been using her as an Arch-militant, too, and once I figured out how to make use of versatility, she just turned into an absolute powerhouse. Really looking forward to a Pasqal build. I love him, but I don't feel like I'm using him right.
Great job. TY. I have Bolter pistol and hand flamer as secondary in case anyone gets close. Love her build. she is a monster in battle. At times some of my characters don't even act since she cleans house. Great idea on Willpower
Thanks for the solid analysis. My Soldier Argenta went hard with a Flamer and as a Arch-Militant she's working towards the Heavy Bolter-Heavy Flamer combo.
The first time she used demolitions to blow a door and then just casually said "unlocked" i spit coffee on my keyboard. I fell a little in love with the murder nun right there.
Interesting build, i prefer to run Argenta with a Bolter and heavy bolter to absolutely mow down enemies with the rapid fire + wildfire combo. Also the heroic action of the solder works incredibly well with the heavy bolter after you increased it's rate of fire with rapid fire. The gloves that reduce recoil for automatic weapons is a real godsend for that loudout
I have two main characters in this game Arch-Militant Argenta and Strategist Cassia... When all are dead, Cassia still continue to dodge attack on her rear zone and mopped the map with held my glare, with a double damage the second time ^^. Ho, i gave argenta an heavy bolter, an heavy flamer and the possibility to kick and count consumable for versatility... I generaly finish most of the combats in one round, with argenta playing 3 or 5 times ^^.
Greatly enjoy these builds and walkthroughs and stuff. Just thought I'd toss in a small detail I've noticed while playing; Just about all the human companions have Imperial World as homeworlds. And they each have a different pick of "+10 stat" (Abelard has toughness, Heinrix strength, Argenta agility, and Idira willpower). They also have a homeworld talent you can pick that share half that bonus (+5) with all non-xenos in the team. Which seems kinda nice if you have a spare talent (like you had with the demolition one at the end). My character is a mess, so this helps me!
My main issue with rapid fire is that the bullets get random trajectories, and as odd as it sound but burst attacks are aimed, meaning it will aim every bullet at an enemy. Under rapid fire it won't, so a part of your shots will just go to waste. Comparatively focused fire is a flat extra damage to her next area attack. And with arch militant it can easily go above +100% extra damage. Also for some reasons if you stop alternating attack type you don't lose the arch militant stack, it just stops increasing, and at some point it just doesn't matter to increase it anymore. You did not discuss it but a gunslinger build is really good with arch militant, with an item you get some free attacks when you pair it with dual wielding and you can easily attack 4 to 5 times every turn, once you have 12+ stacks you can just use any heavy weapon you like and ignore the dual wielding part (1 item and 1 talent "wasted") and just use the already stacked versatility with confident approch and just melt anything that stand in your way. Heavy bolter with both heroic act up is insane. PS: rn confident approach and versatility are bugged, while under confident approach, versatility's BS and WS bonuses stays active for some reasons.
I actually found burst fire better for a more close range attack due to this nature. Closer you are the easier it hits which helps greatly in damage output. It ends up more of a attack for close range combat as a result which is why having a gun that can do burst fire in a melee weapon/pistol builds or a dual pistol build helps greatly with the close range Soldier/Arch Militant.
Well as arch militant, she will ramp her damage up so much, that to kill tier 3 or 4 enemy just need one bullet. Even better if you inspire Im running the heavy machine guns buffed, not only its a good clearing. It deal 20-30 damage per bullet once you heroic action Edit and alacrity seems bugged with this, 200 stack per reload Nani!!?? Also officer heroic combined with arch militant heroi seems bugged, as in from now on your burst cost 0 and you can do it as many time as you want
Rapid fire is not completely random distribution, it's more like only 60% of shots follow the center line vs ~80% with high BS. With the talent that gets rid of the 25% damage malus, the extra bullets you're shooting will offset the lower chance for any one shot to be center line, even against single targets.
Throughout the game you'll encounter a series of lower damaging but higher fire rate bolters of various patterns. These are special bolters placed specifically with Argenta in mind to wield, so give her them, they also are successively upgrades to her original and to each other; The vast majority of them are hidden or prizes for completing puzzles. DO NOT replace her OG bolter with the higher damaging standard ones you find commonly everywhere, this gimps her Heroic ability as well as her burst fire bonuses, you can't even give the standard one to the Space Wolf either, so better to just send to cargo and sell for something meaty, or give it to Pascal if you got one when you first meet him, but I'd recommend instead buying the Plasma Pistol as soon as you can in Chapter 1 from the Mechanicus and give him that instead; Send the regular Bolters to the Cargo to trade unless you want to use them yourself.
In some Cases Battle sisters can become inquisitors in the WH world. And you can imagine how STRONG they're. They become some of the strongest beings in the whole 40k universe!.
@@SlanderedGaming Sororitas are not only the armed wing of the Ecclesiarchy (the state church whose laws clearly state they are "not allowed to keep and sustain men under arms" - RAW: women must be fine then), but are also institutionally aligned with the Ordo Hereticus (a major subgroup) of the Inquisition (in the same manner that the Grey Knights are bonded with the Ordo Maleus aka Daemon Hunters and the Deathwatch with the Ordo Xenos). Witch Hunters of the Ordo Hereticus love to employ Sisters when the time for subterfuge is passed and during large planet-wide crack-downs because of their faith-based resistance towards warp powers. Even when using sorcery is it incredibly difficult to corrupt Sisters not to mention that as indoctrinated orphans they have far fewer qualms about collateral damage ("Kill them all, the Emperor knows his own!"), something that cannot be said for regular Human regiments, whose psyche tends to become vulnerable when engaging in "cleansings". Long story short, the Sisters have been deputized so routinely as groups, that they are allowed to field the symbol of the Ordo Hereticus (though not the mark of an inquisitor) while on mission. And I highly suspect that as part of Argenta's job description she routinely reports on you to someone inside the Inquisition to screen House von Valencius for corruption.
@@SlanderedGamingA lot of Inquisitors tend to have large retinues and a number of agents that work on their behalf. The fact that you are working with Heinrix means you are for all intents and purposes working for the Inquisition in some capacity. That would be a reason Argenta is sporting an Inquisition icon. It doesn't necessarily mean she is an Inquisitor herself.
You know, I was a little surprised she didn't start with meltaguns unlocked unless I misread the talents (still getting use to the UI). One of the cataclysms of the Adepta Sororitas is "By bolter shell, flamer burst and melta blast, the mutant, the heretic and the traitor alike are cleansed of their sin of existence. So has it been for five millennia, so shall it be unto the end of time." But I guess that is a special weapon and she might not be trained in it. Plus it's not like she's a Dominion or Celestian or anything. Still her being the bolter person makes sense. Godwyn Daiz pattern bolter and power armor is as basic as a battle sister can be but given the setting, she would be unique and scary surrounded by "normal" people. Also, good bolter in this game. It's not always done right but the sound and lethality of it is very satisfying.
It's because she's not part of a order militant. Sisters from the non-militant orders still receive extensive combat/self-defense training, but it's not their sole focus and they generally don't roll around in full power armor.
@@magni5648 Yeah she mentioned that. Guess it's just odd to me because she's visually in power armor (or at least carrying around a fusion backpack for some reason) and she has flamer training. She's like 1 step away from the whole arsenal.
Awesome build brother and thank you! I loved her during the beta, i thought i spec'd her out the same but for some reason, she has felt super weak (missing every damn attack). Gonna respec her when i get off work and give it a go!
There should have been more context as to why suggest this build. Sure for easy modes this build can carry its own weight, but on harder difficulty you will be stuck at reload screen like Werglia using the builds that have been recommended so far. Thats a key detail. For some reason many people during the BETA and even the release version dont get you can switch weapons for free in this game unlike the Pathfinder games. The quicker I can defeat the enemy, the more satisfied I am with my builds. Sure there are power game strategies that can cheese, but I like my high difficulty games ending no more than 5 rounds as well. And a good way to do this is with the Arch Militant using long range single shot rifles. The Arch-Militant combines very well with the Officer/Grand Strategist. Due to the stacks of versatility from extra turns and talents like "Awaiting Orders" that rewards the Officer with an action point for giving the Arch Militant an extra turn. And "Discipline" talent that gives extra versitality. With two leaders, thats minimum two to four versatility per round. Which is +20 Ballistic Skill. Which means better accuracy and damage. By round five versatility will be at over a dozen stacks. And gearing the Arch Militant as heavy gunner, makes optimal use of Rapid Fire, Rapid Reload and other fire rate features. So I cram in Heavy Gunner and Overpower after Discipline, Ingenious and Adaptability. As for Characteristics, Perception over Agility is optimal for ranged because Perception makes it harder for attacks to be dodged. With Perception over 70 i just about never get dodged. Especially not with a las weapon and even less likely with Las Expert. Agility comes next for better initiative than actual dodge. I dont worry about dodge or armor because im doing long engagements behind cover. And just about nothing survives two burst fire from a Heavy Bolter at closer range. Especially not with Voice of Command and Take Aim! in effect. So I focus more on fire rate and hitting, rather than dodging and armor. Two Arch-Militant heavy gunners and two Officers is easy mode on high difficulty. And one more thing, never settle for non-stackable or one round effects that dont cause anything short of devastation for the cost. I go for "until end of combat" or "effect stacks until end of combat". I dont like single "+10%" or "+1" or "+2" nothing. Thats what I detest about Owlcat. They always add a feature that does meger "+1" or "+2" at high levels in all their games. If you chose some trash like that without a compounding mechanic that justifies that trash, you need more time at the drawing board
I played the game on Daring which is essentially Core. It's not the hardest difficulty but it's also definitely not easy mode. Using sniper rifles or heavy weapons with Argenta is clearly contrary to her character. She literally has a regular two handed bolter in her portrait. That is why I don't suggest it for her build. Perception is not better than Agility for Argenta in any way, shape, form, or fashion. Dodge is already heavily reduced by debuffs from party members such as Cassia. The advantage of Agility isn't the increase to Dodge it's how that Characteristic interacts with other Marksman related talents.
In your review you mentioned you play on easy. Cassia's Eye Oblivion only works within her view and I dont make an average Argenta build with agility or wisdom talents. Which is why I put Agility as 3rd in priority. But either way its not really that essential for heavy gunner which was the specialty I emphasized. Based on the build and I just didnt see where Argenta really specialized in anything in this build. But compared to any other Argenta builds ive seen, I would say the Willpower points made more sense. Though I would never add any Willpower to Argenta. I do find your Rogue Trader content to be the best presented on TH-cam and I do appreciate your reply!@@SlanderedGaming
Cool build. I mean it's pretty much the same as my Argenta to level 23 where I am :) I carry flame pistol/boltpistol second weapon so don't need the dash so much. They don't get used much but it's the thought. I expected the flames might make getting Versatility a little easier but they seem to count burst and area attacks (including grenades) as the same type, contrary to what the ability description says. In your Arch Militant overview you recommended against Always Ready but it has such a cascading impact on getting Flash Fire online it's really good. I just had her up to 220 BS and 18 Inspire for +30 damage 12 times a turn. I might switch to a heavy bolter if I get one as that shoots even more & the low base damage is quickly overwhelmed by buffs.
I love your videos and particularly your build videos, but I built Argent around the Flame Thrower. It might not be her strongest set up, but it's a lot of fun. You build explanations came in handy when setting that up that.
Arch-Militant is actually perfect for alternating between a flamer and a bolter: first do a bolter burst, then do a flamer AOE (count as different so you get the versatility stacks) - both cover lots of targets...
I feel like the flamer was superb in Act I and I still get a lot of use out of it with Argenta as an Arch-Militant. She currently swaps between heavy bolter and flamer, utterly devastating enemies at close range. I feel like Dash is a clutch ability. I frequently use it for the extra bit of distance or to position Argenta for a perfect shot.
I have to ask, can this build be used for the RT or is this only good for her I wanna do a space marine esque build with heavy weapons and armor, bug guns and thunder hammers for my RT. Is that a fools dream, or can it be done?
Nope you can absolutely do that with your Rogue Trader if you choose. Only difference is your RT won't come with Bolter, Flame or Melta weapon proficiency so you'll have to get that manually if you want to use one of those weapons.
I have been looking at your builds for Rogue Trader for a bit, and you have some very good ones. I appreciate your efforts to share with those of us who are total n00bs to Rogue Trader. As I mentioned in another video comment, and I experienced in this video also, I would love it if you would consider doing more of a level by level approach vs. what is more of a list of talents. You pretty much never mention what level you are updating, and on top of that you are rather inconsistent on when you choose to mention characteristic and skill boosts. Your video actually edits many of those out. I'm not sure if this is a tactic to keep people coming back to your videos every time they level up :P, but personally I put all of the builds I plan to use into a spreadsheet, which is much more convenient than checking 8+ videos every time my team levels up. Just my 2 cents. I didn't have this problem with your Pathfinder builds, because you could always see on screen which level number was being updated. For Rogue Trader Owlcat unfortunately chose not to include the level number in their interface, so you literally have to count from 16 to figure out which level you are on.
In the description there's a link to a spreadsheet for the entire build. I mention that every time we are about to start going over Exemplar talents. I expect people to reference the sheet not my video.
@@SlanderedGaming Oh man, this is fantastic! You are one of the few (only?) who provide a spreadsheet. I just barely reached level 16, so I haven't been paying attention to anything related to Exemplar, so I haven't watched that part of your video yet. :P I have to consume this game in bite sized chunks at this point!! But truely, this is awesome, and could have saved me a bunch of time if I had noticed it earlier.
@@SlanderedGaming Seriously, you are a man after my own heart! I format my spreadsheet differently, but I add in exactly the same details as you have here. This is seriously like getting an internet Christmas present. Thank you sir!
Is soldier just hands down the best option because run and gun giving extra attacks seems to be insanely powerful for any type of build (sniper, rapid fire, psyker)?
In my opinion, a sniper Soldier is the most powerful character in Act 1 hands down. When you get into later Acts things level out a lot more and they all kind of need each other.
I'm surprised you don't value swift movements I find the mp is a bit restrictive so I get it as the first common talent choice on every character Perhaps only a charge focused warrior build wouldn't need it imo
It's definitely doable and you can make the case Argenta is more offensively capable going that route. The biggest sacrifice is probably the Characteristic points you'll have to plunge into Strength. Outside of that you need two Arch-Militant and Common talents that are dedicated towards heavy weaponry which isn't a big deal. Go for it. :)
@@SlanderedGaming Thanks for the feedback, man! My squad just didn’t have coverage for heavy weapons and I hadn’t planned on specc’ing my RT that way. Really enjoying the content you’re putting out on the game!
@@SlanderedGaming Understood thanks. I'm thinking of making my MC wield flamers and meltas. So if I swap Bolt Weapon Expert with Flame weapon expert will that work as well? Will I be able to continue as normal with just that change or will I need to change other things as well?
Also, Thank You, yes, Buff yourself, and Debuff your enemy, THEN destroy them, I see to many people complaining about how hard the combat is in this game when it's really very easy if you take a second to look through your options and use them with a modicum of sense instead of just trying to Unga Bunga your way through things
I feel like I am missing something, even with her BS max advanced, I barely hit anything with her bolter and enemies' armor absorbs most of its dmg through Footfall. Meanwhile Idira lightning and Cassia movement rips apart any groups of enemies so long as the warp isn't too perilous, and Pascal snipes or axes through any mid level foes. Then Idira psychic screams any armored / dodge foes on following turns.
My one issue with her is not having power armor. I have all of the Rogue Trader RP books. They address this by pretty much saying she is a battle sister.
@@SlanderedGaming it was more of a problem with hit rate of burst attacks. I switched her to sniper rifle in my current playthrough and so far it's been way more reliable.

I made her a bounty hunter as my main is a warrior arch militant. And i hated it, i respecced her to atch militant and it feels much much better. Do not ever take controlled shot. It sucks. It reduces your chance to hit.

Awesome!
@@HermesHall Thank you, I actually have been alternating with a Bolter. It's such a fun build and I can not wait to use Agenta because of it.
Wow I actually hadn't thought about switching back and forth between Bolter's and Flamers. That sounds pretty damn cool.
There are some really good Hotshot Lasguns that do more damage then a Bolter with the same rate of fire
True but I would never put them in Argenta's hands. It's either Bolters and Flame weapons all the way with her.
cool explain build but im hyped for the main lets play :D
Another episode will hopefully be ready tomorrow!
@@marceror Glad it helps!
@@marceror My pleasure!
Keep up the good work!
Thanks, will do!
If Perception reduces enemies chance to dodge attacks wouldnt that go best with ranged builds and WS?
Not for Soldiers because they have so many abilities that scale off Agility. It's great for sniper Operatives though and Psykers.
I'm surprised you don't value swift movements
I find the mp is a bit restrictive so I get it as the first common talent choice on every character
Perhaps only a charge focused warrior build wouldn't need it imo
In my beta playthroughs it wasn't an issue but maybe that will change when I play through the full version.
@@SlanderedGaming just think about every time you couldn't get that perfect position haha
Might just be me but I found it happening alot
How easy would this build be to make it a Heavy Weapon/Bolter setup? Still learning.
Can this be used for the Main Character? I'm not finding many MC builds for the game
Yes you can use this build for the main character. There are two other MC builds on this channel. One for an officer and another for a pyromancer.
@@SlanderedGaming Understood thanks. I'm thinking of making my MC wield flamers and meltas. So if I swap Bolt Weapon Expert with Flame weapon expert will that work as well? Will I be able to continue as normal with just that change or will I need to change other things as well?
Argenta is great, also Heavy Bolter for the win lol
Also, Thank You, yes, Buff yourself, and Debuff your enemy, THEN destroy them, I see to many people complaining about how hard the combat is in this game when it's really very easy if you take a second to look through your options and use them with a modicum of sense instead of just trying to Unga Bunga your way through things
Yeah I am going to talk about proper debuffing a lot more in the next video.
You need to debuff the enemy first for Argenta to really light them up.
@@SlanderedGaming just unlocked Inspire on my RT, her burst fire destroys things now
Thanks for the video
My pleasure!
My one issue with her is not having power armor. I have all of the Rogue Trader RP books. They address this by pretty much saying she is a battle sister.
It's weird that she has Power Armor proficiency but doesn't start with Power Armor and it takes forever to find some in the game.
Do bolters get better later on? I had Argenta with almost exact same build for first few chapter until I restarted and she was absolutely useless.
Bolters heavily benefit from enemies that are properly debuffed. If you are just using them straight up against enemies the damage will be paltry.
@@SlanderedGaming it was more of a problem with hit rate of burst attacks. I switched her to sniper rifle in my current playthrough and so far it's been way more reliable.
interesting. I see you changed your mind on those first picks you made in your lets play with second skin and rapid reload now being pushed further down the levels
Yeah I started the Let's Play before I worked out a build.
Totally unrelated but will there be a stream?
Of my Imperialis run? Once we are done with heretic I'll do a poll on the channel and see if we should stream Rogue Trader again or move to another game.
@@SlanderedGaming oh i meant the heretic run!. Sorry i just really enjoy watching those streams!.
I made her a bounty hunter as my main is a warrior arch militant. And i hated it, i respecced her to atch militant and it feels much much better.
Do not ever take controlled shot. It sucks. It reduces your chance to hit.
Where is the blessed bolter case? I want it!
Honestly I don't remember but I'll be sure to note it when I find it again!
guys, tell me which of the enpc can change your build from, ty❤
Jaris. The noble guy on the bridge.
Yeah the game doesn't say it plainly but it is Jaris.
good stuff. leveling options are a bitch.
Yup there are so many different options it's hard to decide which one is best.
👍🏾👍🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💪🏾💪🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Purge the Heretics!!!!
Maybe I'll buy it one day when there is a conversion mod where we can be a kick ass space marine with everything altered for that.
Wait a moment. You buff with argenta?
I shoot with her then i shoot after which i shoot and then i shoot again and after that i throw a grenade😂😂
and im gonna respec her asap
😂😂
