I need your suggestions for buying the ktm 1290 super adventure bike or should not i buy? I need your thoughts about the bike or do you have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance
I have an total of 100.000 km on the 1290 Super Adventure series across 3 different bikes with absolutely zero issues until I experienced the critical engine damage of my current 1290 SAR. So far I think this is a rare issue as the LC8 engine is considered to be very robust. Would I buy this bike again now? Yes, I would as still love everything about it for what I am asking of my motorcycle right now. If it is right one for you is best experienced during an extended test ride - take it out for a day if you have the chance. See if you like it. Alternatives are BMW and Ducati‘s large adventure bike offerings. The BMW is a fantastic and versatile bike equally at home on the road and off the pavement. The Ducati is probably the sportiest of the bunch with a stronger road focus but you can do some light off-road riding with it. Try the BMW and Ducati too. After you test ridden them all your gut feeling will likely point you to your favorite amongst the big 3. cheers Oliver

I have been meaning to make a video - just haven't gotten around to it yet - the short answer is - I do not know - KTM replaced the entire engine without the shop even opening the engine - so the dealer and I do not know what caused this. @@MotoVibes that’s true. I live in the United States. I do not own a car. I am 77. in the United States, I drive a 2018 BMW GS adventure half the year I spend in Europe where I have a Yamaha T7 hundred. Which I think is the perfect bike for Europe. That bike has torque everywhere. The BMW, amazingly, does not. When you’re off road, you need torque at very low RPMs. At any rate, I spend a whole lot of time in the Alps. I ride alone which is lonely but I ride fast and from pricks in Audi on the Thruway in Portugal the most dangerous thing on the road is the guy you’re riding with. The guy I used to ride with has been dead for 10 years, unfortunately, and I have never found anybody, other than Paul French, who is both fast and safe. Two years ago I did the Isle of Man course at 4 o’clock in the morning on my Yamaha. 45 minutes! That summer I was also in Morocco in the Atlas mountains, where there are potholes as big as bathtubs and roads that were being carved out years ago, but for some reason the work stopped, and there’s just decaying machinery and piles of gravel around. That, and going through the French alps on balcony Road with water seeping out of the inside wall, and across the road on outside turns with no meaningful retainer on the outside and a thousand foot drop were the most challenging, purportedly paved roads I’ve ever been on! Doing the Italian islands this year, then to Tunisia. I am grateful that fortune has enabled me to do these things at this age. My life has been mortised between two generations that do not understand me. Both my parents and my children worry and tell me to be careful!

It was cool to see the Diana Hotel drone footage, they did a beautiful expansion. I stayed there on my first solo motorcycle trip through the Dolomites. It was before they expanded the hotel, and I wanted to experience a MoHo (motorbike hotel). Love your videos! I can't wait to ride those roads again!

How many days did it took you to complete? Thanks a bunch! I'm thinking of doing this ride on September :)
Thanks so much for your comment! I’m thrilled you enjoyed the video-it sounds like you’re ready to take on the Alps!
The tour featured in the video was a 6-day ride, but it inspired two of my guided tours in the region for 2025. I’m offering the Central Alps Tour in July (9 days) and the Dolomites Tour in June (7 days). Both tours cover some of the best Alpine routes, including the stunning Swiss and Italian Alps you saw in the video.
If your dates are flexible, I’m also running a total of four guided tours to the Alps in 2025, so there’s plenty to choose from. You can find all the details at www.motovibes.de
September is a beautiful time to ride the Alps, but if you’d like to join a guided group or need help planning your trip, feel free to reach out. Either way, you’re in for an unforgettable experience!

@motovibes what was the mechanical failure with your 1290? I have the same bike and hope to avoid any issues.
I have been meaning to make a video - just haven't gotten around to it yet - the short answer is - I do not know - KTM replaced the entire engine without the shop even opening the engine - so the dealer and I do not know what caused this. My understanding is that this is rather rare - especially given the low milage.
