My all time favorite band playing this classic way back in 1976. Check out the groove on this song. Simple but powerful. Also, check out Glen Goins' vocals during the breakdown section near the end. RIP gone way too soon.

I saw the Mothership concert twice. At the end of the second one GC said "when we come back we'll be under water". The next concert was the Aqua boogie show.

Glenn was 24 when he died. Glenn played guitar in the band at his grandmothers church. Before he would commit to joining P-Funk he wanted his grandma's blessing. She encouraged him to follow his dream. There is a verse GLENN add-libbed on his debut album performance on the CHOCOLATE CITY album in the song "BIG FOOTIN"...."If only my Grandmother could see me now".

I first saw P-Funk live at Madison Square Garden in 1977. I was mesmerized from beginning to end. My favorites to this day. Nobody rocked like George and the crew. Thanks for this.
A group that is more known for its personality, grooved every other band of their era of the stage was The Time. They routinely kicked Prince’s butt.
Please do a reaction video to one of their performances.

This song has been in my head for the last two weeks since seeing the actual Mothership at the Ntl African American Museum
As I previously stated, if Glen Goins voice doesn’t take you to church, you are just a straight up heathen! LoL.
    Bro DeLuca we appreciate you!

I’ve loved this song- and particularly this version- ever since I first heard it about 30 years ago. It is straight church, indeed. I was starting to get heavily into vintage (70s) Parliament-Funkadelic then, collecting the old vinyls etc after continuously coming across their name in interviews of other bands I liked at the time-I’d read that the Red Hot Chili Peppers, or Fishbone, as well as rap groups like Public Enemy, were ALL huge Pfunk fans, and that they even felt indebted to them, so I figured “I need to check these guys out!” So I went out and bought “Live: Pfunk Earth Tour,” a live album from I think one year after the video you played, 1977.... it had Swing Down, too. I think my fav song on there is the live version of “Gamin’ On Ya!”, a song that I guess I’d describe as a cross between funk and big band/swing, what with the incredible horn charts (the live version even more so than the studio version). It’s about the happiest, most joyful thing Ive ever heard and instantly makes me smile. And the Night of the Thumpasaurus People is another fav...that riff is just epic!
Have you heard Fishbone? It’s an all-black rock band that started out in 1979 or so mostly playing a kind of ska/funk hybrid, but they gradually drew in even more influences, much like an early Parliament where you’d hear R&B, pychedelic jams, COUNTRY, you name it. It’s a crying shame that Fishbone never got to be as big as the bands that openly worship them (Gwen Stefani’s original band, No Doubt, are massive Fishbone fans).... anyway if you haven’t heard them, it’s hard to recommend just one song let alone any one album, but I think they hit their pinnacle in the early 90s, on “The Reality of My Surroundings”, and the next one,”Give a Monkey a Brain and He’ll Swear He’s the Center of the Universe”-if you like a groove, you’ll get it! You won’t hear a more vintage Parliament/George Clinton-inspired song than “The Properties of Propaganda” (from “Give a Monkey...”), by anyone. Good bass playing too! And the song “Lemon Meringue” should’ve been a hit and made them millions, such a well-written song it is.
(And “Everyday Sunshine” from “Reality” is pure Beatles.... much like another band called Funkadelic did with a certain song called “Miss Lucifer’s Love”...). They covered “Freddie’s Dead” on Soul Train in the late 80s and jaws dropped... it was like if Eddie Van Halen played for Curts Mayfield.
Fishbone is still hanging on; they’re like an 80s/90s version of Pfunk, IMO.

WOW, you could do reactions to classic tight funk grooves and not even leave the bay for a while. Sly & the Family Stone, Graham Central Station, ConFunShun, Tower Of Power, Doobie Brothers, Santana, Patrice Rushen...... I know I am forgetting quite a few. If you love the Funk, check out the Series by Mike Judge Tales From The Tour Bus Season 2. It’s all about the Funk. James Brown, Bootsy and George, Rick James , Betty Davis, Prince and it is hilarious. Animated but so well done and you get the point of view of the people that were there.
