  • Riding my Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE from Tellico Plains, TN, over the mountains to Murphy, NC, via a gravel road connector, then to Rainbow Springs Rd near Nantahala Lake and then from Andrews, NC, to Robbinsville, NC, via Tatham Gap Road (also known as the Gravel Dragon). Road home via the Tail of the Dragon and Foothills Parkway. Lots of twisties and some nice gravel/dirt through the mountains.

First gravel - Davis Creek Rd 6:13
    Murphy, NC 8:11
Second gravel - Rainbow Springs Rd 9:13
Third gravel - Tatham Gap Rd 11:59

After the stop in Murphy, my helmet mount pitched down a little so apologies for getting more of my handlebars and gauge than I prefer!

You need a little Jeff and Scrambler in your diorama!

Beautiful country, beautiful bike, I just wish you had your camera tipped up a little bit so that we can see more of the scenery. Thank you for sharing though.

Your Wing could handle most of that gravel I was on :)

If you’re a fan of the Triumph Scrambler, read Forgotten Road by Randall Arthur. The whole last half of the book highlights the Scrambler with numerous on-road adventures. The book is a work of fiction, but supposedly the adventures in the book are all based on Arthur’s real-life experiences.

Be careful there! I heard a guy almost got run over by a truck taking pictures of his buddies in front of the falls...😉

I’ve had my 1200 Steve McQueen for 3 weeks now and this is exactly the kind of riding I’m planning. Grew up on dirt bikes, took a 30 year pause in the Air Force and been back on a 2010 America and a 2020 Scout Bobber for a year and a half. What tires are you running?

Love the new McQueen edition! The big Scrambler is not really a dual sport, but it's much more capable that the larger, more top-heavy adventure bikes like the GS's. Tires make a big difference too on off highway riding. I'm running 50/50's (Michelin Anakee Wilds). I love them. Give me a lot of confidence in the soft stuff.
