Hermanus offers the best shore-based whale watching in the world, but just check the weather. On a windy day you are unlikely to see whales breaching (jumping out) the ocean.

Thanks for visiting! Hermanus has been my home for the last 25 years although I was born in Cape Town. Sorry you missed the Whales, they really only visit a short while and can be elusive. I live close to the sea and go looking for them most days during season. You absolutely have to return, you missed so much. We love the Cliff Path and it our regular place to exercise but the mountains around Fernkloof are full of endangered and endemic plants, birds, animals, insects and amphibians! There are plenty of hiking trails. We also have some if the best wines in the country and even in the world. I love living here because my family has been in wine marketing for decades and so we use any excuse to go tasting (and my son is a Sommelier). Did you know we have a big cat sanctuary? There are also several private wildlife conservancies. Not to mention that Hermanus makes a great base for exploring the Overberg region with more wine, more wildlife, more nature, more food, more adventures and more historical and even archeological places.

Service is non existence in any category, you have to drive to cape town if you need something, there is a difference between vacation and permanent living there
