@Sardeed yes. In the olden days of minecraft, the only way to get cats was to catch or trade for a fish, then be in a jungle and even FIND a ocelot. Then chase, and trap it.

Yeah no kidding, it's sad that so many animals are critically endangered. It's nice to hear something uplifting like this but we still have a long way to go for many other animals. The docs just try to bring awareness.

In the 60's to 80's there was a series about nature here in Germany by Bernhard Grzimek and I remember him being quoted with: "the only one who really needs an ozelot fur is an ozelot."

Love these little guys. We have a small population of Ocelots in South Texas and we are trying to protect them as well as helping them grow in number. They thrive in the thorn shrub environment.
Ocelots have been my favorite animals for years now. I don’t see as many videos about them so it’s nice to see these spotted kitties on Animalogic!

Since you touched upon the Sonoran Desert, how about THE ROADRUNER. Native Americans consider this bird to be a trickster bird, similar to an avian Loki.
And the real bird is NOTHING like the cartoon. The cartoon can't fly, while the real bird can. Also the real bird is actually slower than a coyote, so instead of running from them they just fly away. And the cartoon looks more like a deranged ostrich. XD
So the road runner is an avian Coyote?

When I was a child, I saw ocelots in a zoo. Being a dumb kid, I throw popcorn into their cages. They ate it with apparent enjoyment. (My mom's theory was that they liked the butter.) Since then, Ocelots have always been one of my all-time favorite animals. Gorgeous creatures!
Our housecats love popcorn and crackers. We think its a combination of the salt and the crunch.

They are called - wild cat in my country. I used to spot one in a temple, surprisingly friendly. I think monk constantly feed them so they domesticated themselves there.

I was thinking "wow...ocelot...such an interesting name, never heard of it" and then I remembered that here in brazil we just call them "jaguatirica" which can be roughly translated from tupi-guarani as "jaguar who runs away"
They may be common South of the United States but there are only 50 or so in Texas. These are the last Ocelots in their original territory. Love these cats.

I had one walk right up to my deer stand back in 95 in Freer Texas. He rolled around in the sand for a couple of minutes then disappeared back into the dense thicket. At first I didn’t know what I was watching then I found out that night that I had witnessed a once in a lifetime encounter. I will never forget it.

You may have misheard us. Ocelots are the largest members of their genus, not of all small cats.
That said, ‘small cat’ is a colloquial umbrella term, not a scientific classification, and what is and isn’t considered a big or small cat is hotly debated.
Some do consider cougars to be small cats, while many do not. Unlike “big cats” they can’t roar, but also, the males can weigh up to 100kg. Compared to around 15kg for an Ocelot, which is on the larger end of ‘small cats’.

Many years ago, my aunt had an ocelot. It loved to sneak up from behind, jump, grab me by the neck, and start to play eating my throat. Oh, yep, great play for it, I really did not like it. Yeah, so cute. Also, the thing slept in the bathtub next to the toilet. And yes, it would stare at me as I took a leak. Very intimidating.
Probably because it thought you were scent marking in his territory.
