  • Getting Great Blues Tone With a Blues Junior. The Blues Junior is a fantastic little amp for the blues. In this video you're going to learn how to set this amp up to give you the tone you like. We'll go through what the pre and power amps are and how they work to affect your tone. We'll also talk about how both of these things also have a massive affect on your reverb. @crossroadbluessecrets you can purchase this amp here amzn.to/3kLMZ0m

    Very interesting video. I have a Tweed Blues Junior III with a Jensen speaker and love experimenting with different settings. One thing you don't mention is the tone settings on the amp. You appear to go for a scooped middle setting whereas I prefer to boost the middle as it cuts through more if you're playing in a band. Also interested in your take on using the volume knob on a Strat to vary the amount of distortion you get. I find It very useful when switching from rhythm to lead playing. Finally, you don't mention pedals. I know that you can get a great sound without them, but the Blues Junior is a great platform for pedals so I'd be interested in your take on overdrive, delay and compression pedals.

    Great review, and you're a phenomenal player! All self taught or did you have classes in the beginning? While you play excellent leads, the only change I'd ask for is more chords- barre and open, see how the amp handles them and how they sound. Cheers from Miami!

    Hi John, I have just discovered your channel and am amazed at the range of information that you cover. I have almost viewed everyone of your videos in a single day. I am hoping you can share some gems on the problem I have in finding a good blues setting on my guitar & amp. I am in my mid 70's and want to play a bit of blues to satisfy myself. I like a nice smooth creamy tone for blues (Always difficult to describe) with a bit bite when played hard. I have a 1980's MIJ Strat and a 2017 Strat American Pro. My amp is a fully loaded Lazy J J10 amp with spring reverb. Any suggestions on what I should do to get a good tone?

      @crossroadbluessecrets  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi 👋 so sorry I didn’t know your name! But thanks so much for watching! that’s very kind. You must be sick of me by now, I would be! You have a lovely amp, I also like a creamy tone, you know I must say I find those type of tones easy to get through modlers and plug -ins but quite hard to recreate in the real world through an amp. Is there anyone you like that has the tone you like? That way you can see what gear they are using. For a creamy sound the Wampler gearbox pedal is lovely. Those tones are sometimes using two distortion pedals stacked.

Robert Cray type tones as well as your tone at 8.22 mins

    • @sparkyguitar0058
      @sparkyguitar0058 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      LOUD LOUD ! That's not loud. I got a Boogie S O B that has a limit knob. This makes it possible to play along with this little amp or when I actually use the power of 60 watts I can easily compete with a Marshall stack. If not I also got 100 watts (4 pwr tubes) and a 12 L speaker. And that's my little controllable amp. For ignorant loud hurt your ears I got a pro tube Twin that's ungodly loud and is best pointed towards a wall you want knocked down. Probably the loudest combo built. Don't get much use anymore though. You said "Played when neighbors were at work". Tried that with the Twin and the neighbors called from work and asked if I could turn down.

      Hi Joker, My preference has always been modlers, they are some much more flexible for different tones and styles. Amp wise the blues junior is great, you can add some pedals to that like the JS @ for higher gain tones. The only thing Is the reverb won't work too well because no effects loop. Another good one is the Marshall SV20H.
