    thanks for another informative video. i am growing a white grapefruit bush in a container. i have no expectations for a great yield. i am a dreamer without land , just a tiny yard and a grapefruit tree. the smell of the flowers is heavenly and for that i am grateful'.

      I feel you. I have 3 Oro Blanco grapefruits in pots and they reward so much with flowers and heavenly scent (I did get one fruit last year in a 5 gallon pot, and I'm sure the bees appreciate all the nectar since they're always buzzing). I was out in the garden tonight near midnight and noticed some flowers were fully open--almost 2 inches across. Regardless of fruit yield, I'm happy that they are so darn healthy and loaded with white flowers.

      One oro blanco squeezed between the street and my trailer , a space 15" wide, Sandy soil. Each year it's more prolific. This spring she grew at least 20 big juicy beauties!

    I tossed my plans to plant my navels and oro blancos into the ground because I keep hearing about citrus roots destroying home foundations on the internet. I've grown citrus for years and have never had invasive root issues. Glad you for setting the record straight. Think I will put them down this year.

      It sounds like another myth people like to spread to just sound smart. I noticed that happens a lot specially with new people just getting into gardening :).

    You can make compost tea and fertilize your plants that way. It'll be easier for the roots to absorb the nutrients it needs

    • @qctropicals
      @qctropicals  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Synthetic or organic both work great. Making compost tea for thousand of plants is just too labor intensive and would require more frequent applications. Otherwise, it would be a great choice and cheaper.

      synthetic is not good for soil unfortunately.

    Great stuff! Thanks for the info. I'm growing a dwarf ruby red grapefruit in a container. How many fruits roughly can a root system of about 14 inch diameter container? It has lots of flowers. Should leave as many as possible and whatever falls falls? Or should I limit the # of fruit? Any info on that is appreciated. Thanks

    when you give temps where the trees survive .. are they in Celsius or Fahrenheit ?.... also if potted can you bring it inside when the temp are colder ...will that maintain the tree ? will they still bear fruit?

    I hope you still check the comments even though it’s been a year. I have 2 grapefruit trees which are not looking good. I’ve asked around and am told they are just old and nothing I can do to save them. They’re about 50 years old. I live in chandler or sun lakes. The trunks are peeling and branches dying. If you stand under the tree and look up you can see the sky so the trunk is getting too hot and isn’t that why it’s exploding the bark not age? Is there any way you can help me save my trees?

    • @qctropicals
      @qctropicals  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      my grapefruit used to look just the same. Water fixed the issue. Took 2 years to see results. Water at least 10ft deep, how often will depend on ambient temperatures. My tree got weekly watering until it recovered here in the desert.

    Do you pollinate the flowers? Can you show how to do it properly? Thanks

    • @qctropicals

      no pollinating required unless you don't have bees around.
