Tripping on God
Saw these guys at the new day festival yesterday and was blown away. I saw the band with Daevid a few times and thought that the vehicle gong was now consigned to the the scrap yard. How wrong I was! The new incarnation provides a wonderful blend of old and new which will ensure gong has a lot more fuel in the tank to explore uncharted and mystical roads

Fantastic, feels like entering a sacred space with this track, musicians and audience moving as one, in meditation.
Was not expecting such a fantastic magick mother invocation without the synths or the atlantean chanting, and was maybe expecting some more ambiance from the wind and drums, but the payoff was magnificently worth it; they definitely got it.
This music is connected to the sky!
As tight and energetic as the classic line up.

None, but this is the band Daevid Allen was playing with as Gong up to the point he no longer was able to, and his wish was for them to continue as Gong. His belief was that Gong is a philosophy and a concept rather than being about certain individuals. And I for one agree. This is far and away from any tribute band. ✌️

I really liked this version, though a bit too slow of a build up, when the drums (great drummer!) properly kicked in it was a psychedelic roller-coaster. Not sure why they are not doing Manchester would have gone to see them. Only band i have come across recently, that comes close to the psychedelic vibe. Though its a bit strange them carrying on the gong name and seem, kinda like a covers band almost to some, though i;m not letting that put me off. Would love to hear their version of sprinkling of clouds ;)
My thoughts exactly about the build up - it should have built tension, but it just dragged until the drums. Have to agree about the 'cover band' comment too; but I saw Steve Howe play with Yes tribute band Fragile, so if its good enough for him...
Saw Steve Hillage with Gong as his band at the o2 Ritz a few weeks ago and they did a great version was really happy, was an amazing gig all round, Steve and the band were really tight. Take it easy. @@nobrains6107

For all the doubters I'll say it again... Tangerine Dream is MORE TD than in the last 30 odd years, Soft Machine has all former members and IS Soft Machine, Fairport Convention had like the rest moments there was'nt a singel founding member in it... THESE BANDS ARE ORGANIC... THEY CHANGE, THEY GROW!!!!!!! This is Gong whether you like it or not!!!
I just received the "Rejoice, I'm Dead" cd, and although I've only listened to it once, I have to agree that perhaps they should have changed the name of the band, the music does retain a lot of Gong-isms and is quite good, but it's not Gong in the sense that we've all come to know and love. Maybe they could be Shakti Shanti or some other Gong-related reference. I do like the new album, although I probably don't do enough drugs anymore to appreciate the "spaci-ness". I know Daevid wanted these guys to carry on as Gong...so his wishes must be observed.

I think they should have gone with Gong monicker like Paragong did rather than Gong itself, it's difficult for me to get on board with this...
Gong isn't a "Band", Gong never was... Several line-ups played Gong because Gong is organic... As long as they respect the founding members and the tradition there is nothing wrong. See Soft Machine, see Tangerine Dream, see Fairport Convention... Gong is a universal living presence... This is one of the finest renderings of Master Builder by the way.

Well, by no stretch of my imagination is this the Gong I heard as a 13 year old, This is nearer to Kula Shaker. I like it but it ain't Gong. Call yourself something else and leave us oldsters with our memories! Steve Hillage and Tim Blake are still out there ,they don't call themselves Gong, why should these upstarts? Lol
Because they were all in Gong when Daevid was alive and nobody complained. They're still playing the old tunes along with the post-Daevid material. They are Gong, just a new version of it.
Nowhere near the substance of the original line up. Good for what it is though. Only liked the Deya Daevid Allen since 76 - So this is interesting to muse over.

This is purely a Gong Tribute Cover band. No where near as good as the original GONG.
