Hello again just so you know there is a smaller spiral cleaner under the belt. this is a dismantle the carriage job, normally every 4 or 5 large spiral cleaners we have the small one done (usually the belt at the same time) BTW we rent ours from Canon so it's a service call included in the rental, and that sensor is paper dust contamination I clean mine daily just to have no stops during my work day.
I love how clean the alignment section works on that FS-532. We have some costumers with high volume office systems and every 400.000 prints you have to replace those paddles inside those office finishers. My high volume customer with 2 pro 1100 and FS-532 has over 5 million prints on every system, never had to replace the paddles

Wow. I’m getting more paper from my supplier now than I was a few months ago. I have been also running different brands of paper than I normally buy. But it’s still good paper. It’ll get better eventually I hope
We've had to increase pricing on paper what feels like monthly (small but steady increases) because you're right - the cost to replace the paper has to reflect the current market value. The hardest part is explaining to long time customers why the pricing continues to rise. After so many increases even they are wondering if everything is on the up and up and I can't blame them. I've seen gouging in a lot of instances for sure but I feel like the greedy sellers are burning any credibility once things eventually iron out (hopefully)

I have a few customers in the entertainment industry and they are just coming online again after the border closures so I am doing individual agreements with them to help them get back on their feet. Also we seem to be doing OK with a lot of our paper supplies since we get most of it from the Aussies, There was a big shortage of laminate a few months back because that comes from Thailand.
News I have been hearing says supply is going to get tighter. I have been charging, like you, current prices. I am on allocation from my one supplier. Can only get 1 carton of 150# tag a month and I need 6 cartons total. But at least so far my customers are understanding and working with me. But I am also anticipate customer needs 3 months out and contact them tell them what is going on to try to stay ahead of the "oh crap I'm out and need it asap. "

Yeah, the paper shortage is, besides increased cost, also coming from manufacturers switching over to cardboard and box production for online shops. We're doing some LFP and there's multiple papers we can not get at the moment or for the rest of the year even. Normal sheet paper has increased in price as well, but not by the margins LFP-paper and rolls have gone up. Some people use the overall "seemingly increase" of prices all over to bump up their own prices as well. The stamp-housings we use to make said stamps have gone up by DOUBLE the price at one manufacturer...while another one has gone up like 5%. Guess we're not going to the first one anymore.
I have been watching your videos for a while and as someone that loves to read and buys lots of books I was wondering if or when publishers will start talking about the paper shortages. And it started happening now. Small niche publishers started to sell books with minor defects because their printer is basically telling them to take it or find a new printer.
I find your videos pretty helpful. I want to know, where do you get your used machines and parts.. I am looking for Konica Minolta printers and related products. Is there a way I can reach you?
Can you explain to us how you calculate the cost of a click, given that most color jobs have over 5% coverage, maybe most have over 20% just for one color, which reduces the number of pages up to 5 times that specified by the manufacturer?
To calculate the click I add all my costs for several months and then divide that by the total number of clicks during that time to give me an average. I always keep track of these numbers.

I wouldn't recommend it. They worked for me while I couldn't get the oem. The density changed so color was different, not bad, but different. Its possible that the generic toner could cause damage.

This paper shortage is nuts. I estimate I’ve lost out on about $10k worth of business because I can’t get the paper that my customers are asking for. Never was a problem even two years ago. Hopefully it doesn’t end up killing all us small guys. Hang in there Dan.

The profit margin being driven by paper pricing is the same for labels at least on my end and is a good point. Seems that I price my labels the same as you do you paper products. I had to rethink this as the labels stock had doubled don’t think my profit margin should be that high or will people still buy… time will tell lol 😂

And how do you explain to your client that you cant get they're paper they are use to. Its so frustrating! Ive lost one big client cause i couldnt match my previous turnaround times at the same price. That was half my income lost. Now im going to drop off some booklets for them about 200 full bleed 8x 8s, free of charge. Hay real quick how come your not running 2 up on a 11 x 17 to get the single click cost? Or was that an offer in the contract? All of my deals i negotiate single click cost for all sizes uo to 13 x 19.2. They just now started to charge a base cost for keeping parts on site which i think is ridiculous. i should actually get clicks for that base but i dont.
Get someone to fix the VP when needed. Keep that press as long as you can. The direct press tech is top notch for BW. Paper is a pain. Not sure how you are getting around allocation limits. My shop is marooned in no paper land because of crappy allocation limits. Had to raise prices across the board. Highest I have ever seen.
Canons are great, I'd keep it even if you have to call a tech sometimes. At least with Canon (cough::xerox::cough) there are more service techs around and they are way less expensive per hour than what big X charges.
@@justaprinter Count me in on that. Just had a fleet of Xerox devices placed in my facility and one of our sites just installed a Xerox color press. What a mistake! Xerox is so hands off when it comes to installation, service and training. The devices are cheaply made also.. Fortunately I have a Konica Minolta C3070 in my shop and plan to purchase it after the lease expires next year.
As far as I'm aware ... Xerox hasn't made anything for years ... they rebrand and change software to lock out other makers toner, or even the manufacturers that make the machine's toner so they can sell their more expensive version !!! I've been a copier tech / laser tech for 42 years ... what a wild ride !! independent for 30 years, fixed every brand !!

Yes Dan it's quite obvious to adjust your prices according to escalating costs otherwise you will have to inject your savings against nothing...
Your Drum unit will very very rarely needing to be changed. They say the Drum will last the life of the machine most of the time. I might still have my training material from class on how this machine works message me and I might be able to get it to you

2:00 the embedded software doesn't detect spiral cleaner temperature since certain version, so you can remove the heating rod without problems.

I think you are right. Its going to get worse or at least stay like this for awhile.
I’ve raised prices. My markups on super small runs is at least 400%. Paper is crazy expensive. My customers are slowly figuring out we’re not gouging.

Its tough to determine if some people are increasing prices because of greed or fear. I know both are happening.
