I've always loved to shoot a bow and I do fairly well (shooting targets anyway). Recently I decided I want to make a bow and string and the arrows. Little did I know how involved it would be. anyway, I've made a tillering gizmo, a tillering stick and a string jig. To cut this story short, I couldn't find a DIY string video I could properly understand, until now. Great job. I followed along with some cotton twine, just for practice, and it came out so well I'm actually using it on the kiddie bow I've got. Thanks a bunch. Subscribed
I’m definitely making my own from now on. I’m switching from compound to recurve. It’s been a year now. I went through three strings. Most likely would have cost the same as buying materials and having strings for a lifetime compared to having 3.
my red and black looks tighter need a nail in the center hook the first loop there it allows you to get a better grip then reverse it and reverse after you take out the twists
Great thanks! As a retired engineer I can see that the "multi-pins" are there to stagger the thread(unnecessarily). Which means I can make that jig with 5nails,a piece of decking, a marker pen,and a drill.👍
yep, but most of us would make it with about 20 nails to be able to make different length strings. Also I've found the staggered threads do make for a better fade in. TBH, 2" nails aren't expensive, so use them.
@@mickleblade After seeing this video I looked further into it and even found online plans so made a jig the same as this one. Tip for anyone else making their own- hold the panel pins with pliers so you don't hit your fingers and all the pins go in straight and to the same depth, if the pliers are flat against the wood.😉
I recently bought this string jig and for the life of me can not get the length of the string right. The strings look great but the length is always too short. I've followed this video and others step by step but can't get the length right. Is there a common mistake people make when tying these strings that might set me in the right direction to fixing my problem?
i watched another video on making a flemish twist string. the guy twisted ithe full lenght and then weaved the tag ends through the twist. it's the only video I've seen where were this is done. is it a different technique or a different name for that style of string?
The "flemish" ? I sent a boy down the stores to fetch a few feet of that but the man said it only came in centimetres or grammes. But he did send a free sample of tillering grease.
you are wrong about the string being silenced when using d55 you still need a silencer on the bowstring and the speed is relative to who is drawing the string
Your back twist is not working then. Try watching Kramer Amon’s video on making a Flemish twist string. It’s very well done and he provides excellent information about technique!👍🎯😁
