The principal of the school I teach at, which is an exam centre, said the school has to send predicted marks of the candidates to Cambridge beforehand and that Cambridge would take the lead from that. The estimates usually come from their mock exam grades, I believe. If the predicted mark is 60 and suddenly they get a 90, it is suspicious. They would then look at the other component, too (M1/S1). If they did really well in P1, but quite poorly in the other, that could also be suspicious. I don't know if predicted marks are sent in Pakistan or how it affects independent candidates for example. I predict that Cambridge will have to finish marking first to try to determine what impact the leak might have had if it did really happen. They would have to see if the marks on average were higher and if the difference was statistically significant. That is going to have an impact. Full retake is highly unlikely. Also, the 3 variants undergo standardisation. A possibility is also a change of weighting with more weighting on the sexond component.
So I guess that's how Cambridge is able to still give grades even in situations where students don't end up writing the exam, like in the Covid situation. That makes sense, comparing the predictions to the actual grades and then working from there, and even the change of weighting, I never thought of that but it would actually reduce the advantage to students who cheated if the paper was indeed leaked. And the independent candidates issue definitely might also influence Cambridge's decision.
that's a horrible method. my predicted grades were Es and Us in my igcses and i got 8 A*s in the finals so they shouldn't just assume that anyone who gets a higher grade than the predicted is cheating. secondly both of these papers cover differnt syllabuses and test different topics so it is not reasonable to assume that someone who does well in P1 will do well in M1. the only viable option is a retake and the second best option is basing the grade on M1 the predicted grades thing is incredibly dense
im from pakistan. travelled almost 2 hours back n forth to give the exam bcs the traffic here is insane only to come back to see texts from my friends who also didnt know abt the leak sending me screenshots they had received and found regarding the leak an hour or two before the exam. i remember how defeated i felt as if all the efforts i put in all year will now be unjustified since ill potentially be getting graded on m1. also felt so so disheartened since my exam went extremely well and now it was gonna go to waste since re sits are way harder. cursed the person who leaked all night . now im over it. but still scared of what the outcome may be and how we'll be graded. ill pray for the best

Cause many students sitting around me seemed very happy and finished so early which was kinda confusing for me as i was stressed due to its difficulty level

The thing is, we know that the leak can not be reversed, but the leaks this season are getting out of hand, just recently the chemistry paper 41 was leaked 3 hours before the exam and then there was the igcse paper that was leaked too, and even after all this Cambridge has not given any official statement regarding any action they might take to stop these leaks. The last thing they said was a warning against fake posts and mails. It's been over a week to the exam and there is still no news of any update. The paper was also leaked in other countries because of the time difference. It's funny and frustrating at the same time. My mom said it looks like a movie Lol
As a Pakistani here is how my experience with this whole paper went: I got to the exam centre like 30 minutes before the start time and got so bored. The paper started and i actually found it really easy, although everybody i talked to later found it very hard 😭. Im getting atleast 65 or 70 marks max in that paper. I got home and around evening (~1hr 30 mins) after the paper had finished the news of the leak spread in my maths class gc The proof i have seen of this leak was: 1. screenshots of ppl sharing pics of the paper (through whatsapp), around ~ 2 and a half hours before paper (the earliest time I saw specifically was 11:33 am. The exam started at 2 Pm). 2. screenshots & a screen recording of ppl sharing a pdf file with the paper solved around ~ 1 hr & 10 mins before the exam (specifically around 12:50 Pm). I have seen ppl make claims that they had it more than 12 hours before the exam but I doubt that. As for the leaker, I've seen some ppl claim it was from a school in Karachi & some claim it was from Lahore, but no clear claim. There was also a rumor that those leakers have a leaked Mechanics and Stats paper but that has been debunked atleast by the candidates who just gave mechanics here BC that alleged leaked paper was different from the actual exam. I just hope actions are taken that don't end up harming us students who actually studied and worked hard to do the paper fair and square. It has been confirmed by candidates online (I specifically saw on Reddit) that this paper was leaked to ppl in UAE as well so it is not like only Pakistani students are affected so I just hope good measures are taken that don't ruin anyone's grade. In Pakistan last year, due to political situation, a couple CAIE papers were cancelled. From those, the A levels' papers were taken later in June. On one hand I don't wanna give my paper in June now but that is better then expected grades or giving paper in OctNov so I hope the retake in June happens.

my tutor contacted cambridge and on the call they said there was “no confirmed evidence”of the paper being leaked they said something between the lines of it not being true basically. this was on the 7th of May. praying they continued investigating afterwards and that wont be their final report

yes this was absolutely true the paper were actually leaked and people had it before the exam started. I arrived at the hall 20 mins before the exam had been started so our mates were looking at their mobiles memorizing all the qs and their ans. they showed me the paper and saw 2 qs from but and i refused to believe them as a leaked paper from Cambridge just sounded absurd. As we went into the hall to my surprise the 2 qs i saw were exactly the same and i sat their shocked and refusing to believe. After the paper people were in two states the one who saw the solutions were on top of the world and the other people like me we had a normal paper. So we did the right thing we collected all the evidence we found for the leak paper and emailed it to Cambridge hoping they would take some action but there is dead silence.
You did the right thing. I don't know if you wrote the exam at a school, if you did, you can also give the evidence to the exams officer or the British Council if they were the ones governing your exams.
same happened in China last winter and everyone got their pure 1 score canceled but this yr cie only gives the paper to the school 30 min before the exams starts (we actually got it 1 min late, the exam was supposed to start at 9 but the paper arrived at 9:01)so there's almost 0 leak this yr. I think p12 should be cancelled all around the world since the leak spread to other countries not only Pakistan. Such as Bangladesh, Nepal, KSA, UAE ETC. They have more than enough evidence and they are delaying their statement on purpose. I think it's because resist's are not easy to conduct. Like your going to have to pay for printing, delivery, pay staff such as the invigilators again. Also they have to pay for renting the centers again. I already mentioned that most exams take place in wedding halls so there going to have to pay for booking again. It's not only for Pakistan but for all the countries that did V2. They cannot make the student's pay for it cause it's not their fault so CIE has to Pay. There non profit so they probably do not have fund's for that. It seems that making our grades based on other components is the most logical and sensible answer. I doubt there will be a resit and if anyone thinks there will be one please tell me why.
The paper only got leaked in Pakistan. So I personally think Cambridge should retake the exam of Pakistani students only. As of other countries like Bangladesh, India, and other south Asian regions who sat for the exam, they couldn't see the leaked paper and no report of such incidents have been found. As of the grade threshold, Pakistani students should be accessed according to their performance on the new paper while other countries who already sat for the exam,and have no report of leak, can be assessed by their performance on that old p1 paper.

It could be that it was leaked, or it could be that the our zone nailed it, which is less likely. And btw, thank you sooo much for the notes, i have s1 exam in 3 days and it is absolutely helping a lot. There are however some mistakes here and there but overall its extremely helpful. Would also appreciate it if you could do a pdf file with all the formulas listed and a simple explanation on how/when to use each one.

No. Many people perform bad in the mock exams but they perform better in the real exam. Plus in my school and most schools they have fixed boundaries. At my school an A is at 90% and A* is at 95%. Some people did not even do the mocks. How is it fair to them? Then did not know the exam was going to be cancelled.

Lol the paper leak didn't effect me that much as i was from Bangladesh. I Know that the paper leak reached to reddit website from Pakistan at the morning hour. But my paper went well LOL.

No. Many people perform bad in the mock exams but they perform better in the real exam. Plus in my school and most schools they have fixed boundaries. At my school an A is at 90% and A* is at 95%. Some people did not even do the mocks. How is it fair to them? Then did not know the exam was going to be cancelled.

@@igloo1031 I think it's best if the exam is cancelled and our grade is based on the other components. Or our teacher can send our grades based on how much work we did and how well we performed in tests.
My centre coordinator told me that there will be no retakes since the paper wasn't leaked in my city/country.
He does not know for sure though. You have to wait for CIE'S statement.

We do not know yet. We are waiting for Cambridge to investigate the situation and give their verdict.
