Question 13: 1. Since when y = 24 when x = 1.5, We would have to work out how much you need to multiply 1.5 to get to 5 (i would lay it out like this: y x 24:1.5 ×=? 5 2. So to find this out we must divide 5 by 1.5 I would: - Turn 1.5 into a fraction (cause this is no calculator) which is 1 1/2 - Lay it out like 5 ÷ 1 1/2 - Convert the mixed number fraction to an improper fraction (3/2) and 5 which is 5/1 - Do the keep flip change method which will leave you with: 5/1 × 2/3 - The answer is 10/3 So 10/3 is how much you must multiply by 1.5 to get to 5 Note - Now we run in to a problem This is a non calculator test (damn i already said it twice) so that means there is basically no fast and efficiant way to convert 10/3 to a decimal so this is what I would do: 3.So now to work out y now that we have 10/3, the calculation will be set up as 24 × 10/3 This may look complex but remember what we did back in step 2 We divided a whole number by a *fraction* So now we have to *multiply* a whole number by a fraction which is simple: 24 = 24/1 24/1 × 10/3 = 240/3 240/3 is basically 240 ÷ 3 which is simply 80 Conclusion: The y value is 80 Tip: Dont overthink about it Note: This was done by someone in year 9
What I would do is: y is directly proportional to x, which means that y : x or 24 : 1.5. From there, I get x to 1 and then multiply by 5. 1.5/1.5 = 1 so 24/1.5 = 16. 16 : 1 1*5 = 5 so 16*5 = 80. 80 : 5 y : x so y = 80. This is much simpler than fractions and, as my maths teacher always says, we always try and avoid fractions.

Question 13:
1. Since when y = 24 when x = 1.5,
We would have to work out how much you need to multiply 1.5 to get to 5 (i would lay it out like this:
y x
24:1.5 ×=?
5
2. So to find this out we must divide 5 by 1.5
I would:
- Turn 1.5 into a fraction (cause this is no calculator) which is 1 1/2
- Lay it out like 5 ÷ 1 1/2
- Convert the mixed number fraction to an improper fraction (3/2) and 5 which is 5/1
- Do the keep flip change method which will leave you with:
5/1 × 2/3
- The answer is 10/3
So 10/3 is how much you must multiply by 1.5 to get to 5
Note - Now we run in to a problem
This is a non calculator test (damn i already said it twice)
so that means there is basically no fast and efficiant way to convert 10/3 to a decimal so this is what I would do:
3.So now to work out y now that we have 10/3, the calculation will be set up as
24 × 10/3
This may look complex but remember what we did back in step 2
We divided a whole number by a *fraction*
So now we have to *multiply* a whole number by a fraction which is simple:
24 = 24/1
24/1 × 10/3 = 240/3
240/3 is basically 240 ÷ 3 which is simply 80
Conclusion: The y value is 80
Tip: Dont overthink about it
Note: This was done by someone in year 9
Underrated comment.
What I would do is: y is directly proportional to x, which means that y : x or 24 : 1.5.
From there, I get x to 1 and then multiply by 5.
1.5/1.5 = 1 so 24/1.5 = 16.
16 : 1
1*5 = 5 so 16*5 = 80.
80 : 5
y : x so y = 80.
This is much simpler than fractions and, as my maths teacher always says, we always try and avoid fractions.
@ i somehow find it easier with fractions but that also works too
