    Greatest rock album of the 90s imo and one of the top 10 ever recorded.

    Great video guys. I'm a huge STP fan. Some facts I read about the album are.
    1. The house use to belong to Hollywood Veteran Actor Jimmy Stewart.
    2. Dean said for guitar tones he didn't use the guitars from core or purple. He did use the guitar from the Insterstate video. But he wanted tones from fender strats and telecasters and gibson guitars with p90 pickups.

      Sweet! thanks for the info! Is this your favorite STP album? We have one on Purple as well but that is before we were recording video. We do have another STP episode coming in a few weeks so stay tuned!

      @scratchatrack hi, no its not my favorite. My favorite record is a 3 way tie lol between purple, No.4 and shangri la dee da.

    Can confirm that Press Play is extra long on the LP versions. I've got the Music on Vinyl pressing, and it is glorious. The lyric sheet also does credit O'Brien as playing the Fender Rhodes. One thing I'll give the CD over the LP though is the cool art on the disc itself, kinda looks like a beach ball. And Tiny Music... was my intro to STP so it will always be my favorite

      That is cool! It's the only one I need to still pick up on vinyl!

    Loved the album. They changed their sound musically and Scott sounded like a different person but somehow still sounded like STP. It was also nice to see that critics turned around for them as on this album and stopped dismissing them as Pearl Jam ripoffs. (which was ridiculous). I love Adhesive. Some amazing lyrics by Scott. Really epic sounding song imo. To each their own. 😊. Agree with you guys about Lady picture show.

      What did you think of No. 4? I really liked it. Again very different and much harder than what they had done before. Even more than Core I think.

      @@scratchatrack I enjoyed it, but didn't like it as much as the previous three. Glide and Atlanta are great. I really like Down. Definitely a good album. Everyone always focuses on Scott. He was a great talent but Robert and Dean are great songwriters as well.

    Trippin on a hole is the best rock single of the entire 90s and the solo is the best on a single from that decade as well. Period. Big Bang was a damn strong song too. Adhesive is so good. It’s a perfect record. It’s one of the best ever made. It might be the best pure rock record of that decade too.

      @@scratchatrack I do sir. No.4. I always loved STP through middle school and high school but thought they were done after this record. So when I heard Down I was sold for a new record. What surprised me were songs like glide and I got you. Just wonderful band. My favorite of all time

      Yeah, it's a great album and really hooked me on them again. Love the hard songs but they are also contrasted nicely with songs like glide, i got you, and Atlanta. Too bad Scott just couldn't keep it together!

    I love this album its sooo dark it really shows the dark place they were at at the time my take on lady picture show is caring about a girl that doesnt care about herself. and lyrically i love ride the cliche its soo dark almost scott saying he'll willingly become a rock and roll suicide. Dean wrote the music for it and got pissed at scott for the nihilistic lyrics dean thought he ruined his song and never wanted to play it live which is ashame cause its badass

    Great video and analysis of each song. Tiny Music is my absolute favorite STP album. This is the first STP album I ever really heard (I was 10 at the time of its release) and I give Big Bang Baby the credit for making me a fan (saw the video constantly on MTV that summer). I had the opposite effect as everyone else in regards to STP's sound. When people heard this album they didn't know it was STP. Tiny Music is what I knew STP to be so when I went back and started from the beginning and bought Core, I thought it was a different band entirely. At least a different singer. Looking at the credits in Core didn't help since in Tiny Music he was referred to as Scott but in Core's credits he was referred to as Weiland. So naïve 10 year old me, I thought it was a different guy. Scott's looks didn't help either. Heroin had made him thin out by Tiny Music and he had reddish brown hair on Tiny Music and white hair on the Core booklet. I guess one could get my confusion.
    Anyhow, to your point of Daisy being the only song with acoustic on the album, while I never gave it much thought until you guys mentioned it, there isn't a lot of acoustic guitar on this album but Daisy is not the only song with acoustic guitar. Adhesive has it through the verses. Listen closely. After Dean plays that loud single strum of the A chord on the electric guitar, the acoustic guitar is playing some really pretty and flowing chords underneath as the A chord rings out.
    Keep it up guys! Good stuff!

    • @scratchatrack
      @scratchatrack  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, Scott had many different looks throughout his career and it really fit the band. They changed their sound as much as he changed his look. Also having the ability to sing many different styles made them truly dynamic.
      I think we really meant that Daisy was the only acoustically driven song on the album where it is prominent. They do use it often even if it lightly in the background on some tracks.
      Did you ever have the chance to see them live? I was only able to once during the Shangri-La DEE DA tour. It was really cool they did a little acoustic set in the middle of the show.

    To me, this was probably their best along with Purple. I loved Core back in the days but man, that album hasn't aged that well. My opinion, of course.

      Tiny Music and Purple are my two favorite of theirs. I love No 4 for its rawness. Core is great and really fits the time period I think.

    How different do the songs sound on cd / flac file sound vs the original release? Basically I’m wondering for these 3 STP album re releases, is it worth replacing my original album flac files with these remastered tracks?

    • @scratchatrack
      @scratchatrack  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be tough to say. I'd try one of them to see if there is much of a difference. It also depends on what kind of speakers/headphones you are listening to them with. Do you listen on vinyl at all?

      @@scratchatrack Tiny Music is my favorite, one of the most underrated and overlooked albums of the 90’s (would’ve killed to see the tour in support of that album had Weiland stayed clean). Stalked the band when they headlined at Voodoo Fest in NOLA in 2000. Had them sign the ‘Tiny Music..’ beach ball disc. Still proudly displayed and framed along with the blue vinyl edition of the album.
