Awesome idea! I just got a trolling motor for my Skeeter poontoon and I wasn't sure how to mount it on my boat. Now I know exactly how and I don't have to ask for help. Thank you!
Nate, Great job explaining the mechanic's for your motor mount.I like the idea of switching out the foot rest to get the upward angle. Thank you again, looking forward to more of your video's Nate, John
Gilbert. I have an updated design. You can check it out here. th-cam.com/video/S3wjNM1ptBc/w-d-xo.html. That video shows all of the pieces and measurements. Best of luck!
John, The way this is setup, you just rest your feet on the stand - on ether side of the trolling motor. I have about 50 hours on the water this way and it's quite comfortable. I have never encountered a situation were my feet have slipped, and even if they did, they would have to slip pretty low to hit the blade. Even in that case, the blade is made of plastic, so it would hurt, but you wouldn't fugg up your foot or anything. In my experience, it's perfectly safe.
Ok so I dont know if you answered this question already. So why did you not take off the mounting bracket in back and attach it to the PVC in the front? My guess is that it weighs too much and you did not want to put on more stress to the PVC. I thought I would ask you 1st before I took mine off and put it on the mod.
Unknown Prospector That’t a completely valid question, and honestly, that was my first thought. I believe the reason I didn’t go that route was because the PVC is wider in diameter than the back mounting bracket that came with the boat, so there was no way for the trolling motor to grab on to it. I couldn’t screw the mounting bracket into the PVC because that wouldn’t have been strong enough, plus the width of the mounting bracket combined with the PVC would have been way too wide for the trolling motor to fit around. If you are looking to build the front motor mount, I highly suggest you look at version 2. I have videos up for that one as well. Other people have done some incredible mods and improvements, so check those out too. Best of luck! - Nate
Any chance you can post a video out on the water? I have a wilderness pontoon and deciding which trolling motor to go with, considering that exact one.
Sean, I have two posted two videos that you may be interested in. Do a TH-cam search for "Colorado XT - Minnkota Endura Max 40 - On the water " and "Colorado XT - Calm Morning On Lake" I really like the motor. It's a good weight and it moves the boat along quite nicely. Just under top speed is ideal to go trolling for pike.
Nate, I recently purchased the Tioga model boat and in the process of building the front motor mount frame. It was brought to my attention by my son that my feet may be in danger to injury if they slip down into the moving propeller. Do you have any suggestions to remedy this fear that he has ? Thank You, John
