I use the oars to steer my boat, i basically dip both oars in the water with the motor going straight and locked in that position. Push on the right oar to go left, push on the left oar to go right, the oars also once in the water help the boat to track in a straight line, works great.
The oar steering is a great idea, thank you for that. I used the eye bolts here but changed over to pvc. The extra support on the motor shaft made the steering more responsive.
Great video! I just got my pontoon the other day and had her out on the water this weekend. I hated turning around for the motor so I started buying some stuff to make the seat steering. I also am going to do the switch mod as well. I can’t wait to have mine set up much like this!
Is it safe to say that you found out the split wire loom you used is not water tight even when "gooped up?" Not sure exactly what you did but it doesn't sound watertight or waterproof. Also, try a PWM for the speed control, they work great but make sure the amp rating is correct so you don't burn out the board.
Thanks for sharing. I bought a lithium ion 50 ah and it cost as much as the boat. I figured since I'm going to be stupid and throw money away I also bout a small solar panel and charge controller.
You can Also get stainless steel ones as well got to get the ones with screws on each side of the wings on the split ring go to your local plumbing wholesaler
Could you tell me where to buy one of those orange brackets that attach to the motor shaft ? Went to a hardware store and they had nothing of the kind. Thanks.
I recently purchased one of these and I really like the idea of doing the dual wheels for transport. But I'm wondering how to store it while I'm fishing. With the single wheel I can just pivot the axle sideways but that's not gonna happen with dual wheels. Any ideas? Besides hiding the wheels in the bushes while I fish haha
For the price of a half a 2x6 you could just mount the trolling motor on the front and total cost with out the wood is under $10.00. Then you can steer without all the pulleys or to have to duck your head. Motor in the front, battery in the back evens out nicely on this boat. Why you make this so difficult is beyond me. A factoid for you,on a minn kota the draw on the battery is the same on level 1 as level 5. You have to spend the big bucks for alternating current motors.
I owned an above ground pool. It got a tear in the liner. I got into the pool , applied the goop underwater and it held. I got rid of the pool three years later and it never leaked.
Hi there, how did the battery work out? I have the Colorado XT and weigh in at a lot myself so need less weight. Your battery idea, if it worked would be ideal. Can you provide an update lease?
The smaller battery worked great. Three hours constant movement. When I got home my meter showed full charge. My biggest issue is getting the steering more responsive.
@@GetInShapeWithDavid you talked about 35 amp hours battery, I tested my motor (30 lbs) and the amp range is 2.8 to 3.3 amps from 1-5 speeds. In theory you should get 10 hours from that battery. I'm going to try a quad battery, it has 27 amp hours. I'll see how that goes. Just so much lighter.
So I made the double tire mod, but what are you guys doing with the tires while your in the water? Storing it where? Or is there a problem just leaving them on and letting them get submerged for several hours?
Other than drag, I would say no. The air in the tires would give you a bit more buoyancy I would think. And I would imagine that the tires would act somewhat like a keel and keep you from getting blown around by the wind as much. Just a guess as I don't get my XT until next week. Can't wait!

So you steer by swinging the seat. Nice idea to whom ever first came up with that idea. And to you for showing it here in your video.

Glad the vid helped. Please share when done. That's how we all learn.
Nice job David !
I'm betting that you wound up doing a Rudder Mod for your boat too !

Nice modifications. Great idea doing the video with the pontoons removed.
Im trying to find the wheel attachment for mine!!! May have to have one custom made
Nice set up. I’m unsure where you got that metal clip that the eyebolts are screwed into? Thanks

Great video, thanks, one question. where did you get the orange brackets or how are they called?
Those are called split rings. They’re for holding plumbing. The orange ones are for copper pipe. Galvanized are also available.
1. what do you mean you changed over to pvc? 2.where do you purchase the orange brackets?
May consider a solar panel o help recharge the battery while you're on the water.
Hi great video I was wondering if you could make a video how to make the swivel seat Colorado
Go to Walmart and buy a boat seat swivel for 8 bucks and put it on your seat
good video what battery did you end up with I am using a marine batt and it is too heavy?
What type of clamp is that orange one the eye bolts go into on the boat motor shaft?
Its the two bottom halves of copper splits rings for copper pipe supports . You can get them in all kinds of sizes
@@JayDee-eu7hr awesome, thank you!

Found the brackets at home depot. I lost the frame on the highway. I had an awesome steering worked out I will share that this weekend.

Once the boat was in the water I put the wheels back in the car. Problem was putting back when I was done.

dave where did you get the orange bracket?
Home depot, but I have a better version I will share this weekend.
It does not matter how good the goop is with a split pipe, the way you made it will funnel the water into your components.

In shallower water, it might be quite a hindrance
Can it be used in saltwater? Like small bays.
I would ask the manufacturer, But I would say yes as long as it was washed off completely after use.
just watch your video Everything I seen on it I would highly recommend doing the total opposite sorry nothing looks professional on that boat
Are you able to make a better one?, do it, not just criticize, great video David
