Titan Ronin Plyometric Machine Review: Who Asked For This?!

  • I've been testing the Titan Ronin Plyo Machine for a few weeks now and I love it...I think...maybe...but I don't know why...
    ✅ Titan Ronin Plyo Machine: www.garagegymr...
    The Titan Fitness Ronin Plyometric Machine is one of the most confusing products I've reviewed. It's big. It's overbuilt. It's pretty niche-focused. And I'm not sure who it's made for.
    Titan is a home gym equipment company. The Ronin is designed to meet the needs of University Strength Coaches. It just doesn't add up.
    But, when I put that thought out of my mind, I realize, I love this product. I think it's a fantastic idea. But, I simply don't know who I'd recommend it to. Let's review it.

    Commenting before watching, but I just don't see the need. Price and footprint is that of something you'd find in a commercial/team facility. In those settings you're likely doing either group training (team) or 1:1 personal training (commercial). For the team aspect, you want to be able to get as many people going as possible, not having a single file line of people working through this, especially not wanting to take the time to adjust for each person so the adjustability factor is moot. In the 1:1 setting (which also translates to teams training), is the trainee really going to have a huge benefit from having 69 adjustable points for something that will have the same benefit as a 3 sided/height box that costs less than 1/10th of this item, has no moving parts to break, and still takes up a fraction of the space? This prob makes a better adjustable desk than it does a piece of functional equipment :)

    • @taylormaciow7422
      @taylormaciow7422 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Eh I’d disagree, I played college football, the team workout isn’t 100 people doing the exact same movement at the same time. There’s still breakdown into groups, and even more so into lifter/spotter combo. Colleges buy 5-10 of these, the whole “wait time” argument is moot. No wearability/product breakdown is still a factor though.

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@taylormaciow7422 I played college basketball, we did this in groups as well using traditional boxes. I don't think any college would buy 5-10 of these either, they take up just as much room as a rack would in some instances, they'd be better off just buying a rack attached platform that would give the same adjustability.

    • @awmlawoffice
      @awmlawoffice 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BasementBrandon 1st, the reverse hyper is the standup desk. I use my standup desk for reverse hypers 2 times per week. The other 5 days it is a standing desk. As to this equipment, seems as though having 2 plyo boxes would take up as much space. I just don't much believe in box jumps, unless you're doing drop jumps. Jumping onto a box is not a true plyometric. It's not useless, particularly for old timers like me, but hip mobility leads to higher box jumps than actually improved vertical jumping ability. You can get really good at jumping onto boxes by jumping onto boxes. Dr. Yessis and Yuri Verkhoshansky have the evidence to back up the claims regarding true plyometric training. I have identical twin boys that are now 16 and have used them as Guinea pigs for jumping. That small sample showed me this: standing vertical is hard to improve, but to the extent it can be improved the best way is strength development and bounding. Lots of drop jumps, depth jumps, 10 meter sprints, weighted calf jumps. The box jump did nothing for us.

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@awmlawoffice Not really sure where you're going with your points. I never said a box jump was/wasn't warranted. A typical plyo box is roughly 24x30x20, and weighs

    • @awmlawoffice
      @awmlawoffice 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BasementBrandon just saying that if you want more than 20x24x30 you will need more than one box. Boxes are a pain in the ass in the garage. This over built "box" may actually save space.

      Home gyms for adult fitness, I agree 100%. Considering how competitive and hardcore youth and high school sports are and how hard some parents push, I wonder if that's the specific home gym owners they were targeting. D1 strength coaches, not so much. Time for Rogue to steal from Titan!

    COOOOP!! I like the vid, but just wanted to throw this out there: I am a Parkour athlete / instructor- this is one of the best pieces of equipment I have seen so far to work on jump height safely. I have been training with others that could do 60” box jumps (not me, I maxed out around 48”) and this would be AWESOME to train the progressions to get there. We basically had a lot of different things people could jump on safely, but progressions would typically be in 1 foot increments, or basically “this looks bigger.” For people doing body weight workouts, you could do HSPU or ring pushup progressions and elevate the feet to work toward vertical. So, if you don’t want/ need that one… send it my way! ;-)

    The new warehouse (and the videos shot in it are great), but I would suggest that you either swap the lamps or use ballast to synchronize the flicker of the light with the framerate frequency you're using.
    In other words, there is a clear flicker (and progressive scan color shift) from the top neon lights, and if GGR is aiming for TV like quality video, that's the last step you need to tackle. :)
    Keep on the good work.

    When I hear Titan I definitely think $2000 specialty machines for a simple plyometric exercise that haven't been validated by their top competitors. Good looking and high quality product and big swing with some Steve Jobs (NEXT era) level thinking in terms of bringing it to market.

    To make it safer, they need to use longer plates so the guide rods are closer to the uprights. Now they can get rid of the top bar, and move it towards the bottom for rigidity. Then they need a multi pulley system so the weight stack doesn't move as much relative to the platform. If they could keep it below the minimum height of the platform, then you'd never hit it.

    I gotta say bro, and this perhaps is more targeted at your film crew but you need to put some sound dampeners in to reduce the echo. This would go a long way to help make feel so much more professional. The warehouse look for testing is great! But to get really the most of it:
    Grab 2 c-stands and 2 48 x 48" Floppy Cutter - Top Hinge, but them either side of camera in front of the talent, this will also give you some nice contrast if you put them opposite of where the windows are by cutting on reflections
    Grab 2 stands and a long ass metal pipe, rig a heavy neutral fabric on top and let it hang.
    This will help you improve your sound and overall quality of the video! cheers, keep it up, you guys are awesome

    I feel like you could very easily add an attachment to the front here, and with a little tweak to the lever that attaches to rack, make it very easily a safety squat/bench and just legit plop weight on the platform. Just weld on something to the bottom and attach on and come out with a knurled bar that can be used for squats or bench. That versatility would make this a very valuable machine.

    Yeah I second some of the sentiments expressed here, when Coop isn't reviewing a gimmicky "smart" product that will be obsolete in a few months, he is reviewing yet another Titan product, after doing a two part promo on the brand... Why not an in depth guide on barbell bushings (different bronze, hybrid, composite...) and bearings ? A comprehensive review of the different knurls on the market with macro shots and reasons to go one way or the other ? Why no reviews on the updated Rogue Monolift ? Why no reviews on the new Kabuki stuff (Kroc, Deadlift bar, etc) ? No reviews on the Kleva deadlift jack ? There's a lot of potentially good products that aren't getting reviewed here.

    I think commenters may be missing the point of this. This kind of functions like a halo project; it’s not meant for mass consumption. It’s like a Dodge Hellcat or Corvette ZR-1. Most people aren’t going to pay 100k for a dodge or a corvette but it’s meant to bring up the image of the brand. Same with Titan.
    Whether this halo project actually succeeds is another discussion. My biggest concern is missing on this thing would hurt since there’s a lot of metal everywhere and when you miss you’re usually off-balance. Even if Titan massively flops with this, at least they have moved the conversation away from how they’re perceived as a company that only produces cheap copies of competitors’ products.

    The best thing about titan is their innovation. This is an awesome idea, just can't be used outside of a gym.

    I don't do plyo work, but have seen it performed. And seen people fail. I'm not sure when you fail you want to fall into a heavy metal cage

    Honestly, it takes up less space than a bunch of boxes. Just get the price down, and it's a good thing. Be great for training athletes from your home

      Wouldn’t you be able to stack 6 plyo boxes 2 wide 3 high for a similar footprint on the floor?

    • @thicc_filet9303
      @thicc_filet9303 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ryan Underwood yah, but it's a pain for me to move them to another location when I have a garage gym. My equipment is tight as it is, so I don't have room to move boxes all over if I'm using multiple equipment in the gym. That's just in my case, though. I get what you're saying though

    Honestly this actually might sell in a crossfit gym. Not likely to see this in a tiny garage gym. A wooden box is much easier to use and much cheaper.

    For the strongman maybe the sandbag loading, with stones you'd have to do some diy to stop the stones from hitting the counter weights.
    If I had my own gym, BIG gym, I'd want that in there 🤷‍♂️ hell, five of them 🤣

  • @lk-ip1xs
    @lk-ip1xs 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If they made it so you can clap/fold away the platform, and drilled holes in the handle so you can attach J-cups to it, so you essetially also could use this thing as a squat rack, I may consider it as useful multi functional equipment for a home gym... But at this stage, it's just a gimmick that no home gym owner will ever buy

    I have not watched through but think stackable plyoboxes are more practical the footprint is the same. Jumping on a platform with an empty void underneath is also a little mentally weird for me... Lastly not sure why Titan made such a niche specific higher end product... would have preferred a copy of a sorinex hurricane instead

    interesting product. Whoever designed when outside the box for it. lol. I could see it in college and school gyms. training gyms. I don't think anyone could make one cheaper other than someone maybe Frankenstein-ing an old smith machine to build something similar.

  • @scottalderson4708
    @scottalderson4708 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why get this when you can either make a box, or get one for much cheaper? This product is pointless.They are either overcomplicating fitness or it's just a money grab. There are cheaper, better options.
