  • If you’re living with Fibromyalgia in Dubai, you’re not alone. With a growing prevalence of sufferers all over the world, Fibromyalgia has been getting increasing exposure but the facts are still a little blurry.
    What Are The Symptoms?
The key difference is that Fibromyalgia is not arthritis although it can present with arthritic symptoms. The main issue is widespread musculoskeletal pain that can be constant and interfere with a person’s ability to sleep, manage stress and get on with their daily lives.
The time of day seems to be an important factor, as does activity levels, the weather and sleeping patterns. Pain is usually felt in the muscles and is combined with an insolvable fatigue. You may also experience tension headaches and migraines, abdominal problems, dizziness, and sensory issues.
Fatigue in itself can be through lack of sleep, and be mild or more severe. Some people become exhausted and suffer from decreased endurance. Sleep can be light with frequent waking. This can lead to mood disorders, including depression with difficulty concentrating and there’s a link between Fibromyalgia and anxiety that is widely accepted.

You’re such a great doctor! I can tell you’ve listened to patients. I have RA and fibromyalgia and I’ve been told to see a psychiatrist and therapist because it’s “just depression.” As a neuroscientist in biopharma, I would often challenge these statements because I have a background in chronic pain. I’m so glad good physicians with emotional intelligence and awareness exist!

Can fibromyalgia effect one area only or should be in multiple area in the same time ?

This is a good question! Localized pain is a different condition. Fibromyalgia is usually widespread pain with pressure points that are more sensitive than other parts of the body, but now they’ve updated it to include full widespread pain without the necessity of pressure points. Localized pain in one area is usually indicative of something else, but there’s also a chronic pain condition that involves localized pain.
