They did "straighten it out" as best as they could but nothing would have helped except STEAMING it. Do you have ANY idea how long THAT would take... HOURS. With SEVERAL professionals. There was nothing they COULD do. And tbh I always thought it was just how it looked. 😂 I wasn't born when she married but seeing the pictures I just thought it's how it was supposed to look because nobody spoke about it being creased until very recently. So I never looked close enough to notice. I've seen the dress on display and I've NEVER liked it on her. It's not the dress she needed. And this is CLEARLY the designers making what THEY want and NOT listening to the client and what SHE wanted. I honestly believe Diana had VERY little input on her dress. She trusted the professionals and they screwed her over for it. She was so tiny and didn't need giant ugly puffy sleeves blowing her up. I wish the top had been more like Catherine's, which was hugely popular back then. My mother's wedding dress had basically the same style as Catherine's dress and it was re worn by from the 50s all the way through till the late 80s when it became SEVERAL christening gowns. 😂 She needed something timeless. That would inspire wedding design for decades. Like Catherine's which is STILL being used as inspiration almost 15 years later. Also Sarah York still has the WORST royal wedding dress EVER. 😂 She had TOO MUCH input so it ended up a jumbled mess. So at least Diana NARROWLY MISSED that dubious honour. ☠️🤷‍♀️🤣

@@cececox6399I don’t know about anyone else on this thread but I wasn’t talking about getting the wrinkles out, I was talking about straightening it out because as she walked up the stairs you could see her underskirts… because she had so much dress and the carriage was small, or not intended to carry such a large load so the dress got squished en route to the church. Everyone was concentrating on her left side and how the wind was affecting it, and I don’t think anyone realised the right side looked so bad. The style of the sleeves were very much in fashion for wedding dresses back then, but I think we can all agree that with the neckline ruffles and the bow on it combined with the puffy sleeves wasn’t great, to put it mildly 😂 Diana had discovered bulimia at this point and was losing weight so fast that she had to go into the designers place to try it on and get it taken in every other week, by her own words she said that the dress was stunning when she first tried it on but on the day she had lost so much weight it made the sleeves and ruffles take over the entire dress on her petite frame. The contingent dress would have looked so much better than the one she actually wore, but that’s just my opinion. Poofy, meringue dresses were thankfully outdated by the time William and Kate married, and the look nowadays is modest and simple, but elegant. Sarah Ferguson’s dress was - and still is - the worst dress in royal family history, but then again Sarah didn’t have anyone telling her that design was a gauche and clumsy mess… or if they did tell her that then she ignored what everyone was saying and went with - again, in my opinion - the ugly one. But then Sarah walks like a farmers wife, so it didn’t matter what she wore because she would still have looked like a bag of crap in anything. My fave wedding dress is the one worn by Beatrice or Eugenia, I can never remember which is which but the one who got married during covid and she wore her grandma’s dress, that was a beautiful, classy design and a fab choice for many reasons ❤

It was blue & made her look 30 lbs overweight. It was NOT until AFTER her marriage to Prince Charles, when she had "dressers" that guided her into the world of fashion. Then, she met ALL these mavens of fashion & dress designers, such as Jacques Azagury, Bruce Oldsfield, Arabella Pollen, David Sassoon, Catherine Walker, Stephen Jones & some other women,, whose names I cannot remember. After her divorce, of course, it was Versace, But before Prince Charles, she REALLY needed help. Remember that awful strapless black gown, at their first public date ?? Later, she was called "Dynasty Di", But within a year of their marriage, that is when she REALLY began to shine.

It utterly dwarfed her delicate figure, her face looked so small and lost.

Diana's wedding dress is the most awful of all time! The designers did her a terrible injustice by pulling together that most unflattering, discombobulated, puffy and tent-like "thing" for her special day.
THEY were horrified over the wrinkles and size of it because the trial run gown was in a different material and moved better?? Duh...know your materials, "designers"!
Beautiful Diana appeared to be fine with it and happy that day. I hope so.

I never understood it either, until a documentary about the Royal Family’s official rule book. Unless something has changed since the Queen’s passing, the women are only allowed to wear clear, shades of nude, or very light pink nail polish, for example.
They had to wear pantyhose EVERY time they wore a dress, no matter the length and style of the dress, the season, etcetera. Those little things aren’t a big deal until you have an entire Handbook of them for every day of your life. They had to follow the rules of modesty for the dress at the time of the Queen, and unfortunately--it was the 1980’s. As a GenX kid I can say most of it was AWFUL. if you look at most wedding dresses from that time, and especially any formal for sometimes semi-formal had those horrendous puffy sleeves. I am with you on how terrible it is. And every designer knows to have the steamers ready.
It was a little more difficult managing because of the technology, but then you use a different fabric!! I always wonder what a young Lady Diana Spencer would have chosen for herself…

I'm REALLY sorry because, CLEARLY, he was probably her First Love. She had to have REALLY suffered, loving a man, who would NEVER love her, NOT in the way she wanted him to. Mangas volumosas demais, gola completamente esquisita, saias e mais saias volumosas e pesadas, um bouquet que mais parecia um enfeite fúnebre. O véu tinha quilômetros! The idea of the dress is stolen from Victorian fashion, yet it was so ugly too wrinkled and the flower bouket is way too big .

It is unpredictable how people’s thought have changed a lot. Back in the time when audiences in the world were admired for the wedding gown, and adores how nice the dress was for Princess Diana even lots of women in the world wanted to copy the same dress for their wedding gown. How come now people have the different comments on the same dress?

I loved the dress, it was so right for the time. My two main memories of the day are 1- the state of the dress when she came out of the carriage, and, 2- the train and veil rippling down the stairs after Charles and Diana. That was stunning ❤

  • @coashddjj294

I never liked this dress. Hated the horse collar of lace around the neck, and the sleeves made it look like Colonial America -- like something Martha Washington would wear. I thought her veil/train was miles too long. The whole thing was just off.

It was a very impressive dress. I saw it at Mall of America when it was on display along with her shoes she wore, an umbrella in case it rained, letters from Prince Charles, childhood photos, etc. It was impressive with more detail than I thought, but so big in terms of the amount of material.
