This is for anyone who is looking for tips on building a great psych ward with criminally insane inmates. They can only participate in four programs: Spiritual Guidance, Alcoholics Group Therapy, Behavioral Therapy, and Psychiatric Consultation (the very important one). This means that they *cannot* work, as it is impossible for criminally insane inmates to participate in the required programs. Yes, this also means you absolutely cannot treat them in the Infirmary for drug addiction. Have dogs, metal detectors, and anything else from the DLCs that will help catch contraband before it reaches your prisoners.
THANK YOU! I recently took this game back out of the old Steam cupboard since PA2 is coming out and needed this exact refresh and even a couple tips I never thought of. Cheers!
You can stagger eat times by security sector (see 2:38 where this is done for one security sector) so the canteen doesn't have to be so huge and there is a steadier flow of fresh food being replenished. Shower blocks aren't particularly useful unless you're doing min sec only or are using the graded cell system and want some very low tier cells, but you can be sneaky and put showers and toilets (and pretty much anything else that fulfills needs including prayer mats and bird cages) in program rooms, workshops, the canteen, classrooms and yards. The bird cage addresses the luxury need. It'll be useful in your psych ward run. You can put them in cells and in the canteen. From memory, the AoE is 3x3, or 9 squares.
Yea showers are pretty useless, thus why I always put them in cells now, they do it in their freetime rather than using a slot, rather spend that slot on more freetime or work... get the most out of our prisoners 😏
Hey, thanks for the guide. Can you do a guide about managing finances early on? Building individual cells is expensive, and if you keep them in holding cells it means even more trouble with all the fighting going on. Are dorms worth it? Thanks!
Hey, thanks for the comment 😁 So I can definitely do something that'll cover that, for now what I can say is that even though cells are expensive they are probably the best route to take, you can do dorms to save money however that then starts impacting their privacy need, so eventually you'll get more hassle from this later on. Holding cells are a waste of time, I never bother, they go straight from reception to a cell, I just set the intake to fill to capacity then you can't overfill. Hope this helps and I'll get something out for early game best practices 👍
My prisoners work 10 hours. My prison is designed with efficiency in mind from thier cell they pass the shower and after that the canteen. directly after that the workshop.
Sounds like a decent setup 😊 I don't really bother with a shower room so much, I normally put it in their cell, saves time and improves the cell quality. Thanks for the comment 👍
@@supplyjam i think you're right. I have a hour scheduled for shower but they can also do that in thier free time maybe. My prisoners also get 8 hours sleep. I can exchange some sleep hours for free time i think.
Definitely, I don't bother with shower, they all do it in freetime, and sleep I give them 6 hours.... means more time for work 😈🤣 and they don't complain
Subbed! Love this game, but still have so much to learn!! :D I recently learned that 'Freedom' is greatly positively affected if you build the boxing ring thing room. :D It dropped the freedom demand down straight away. :D
Hey, thanks for the comment and the sub 😁👍 that's good to know, I normally try and just give them more freetime or as much as possible, but might also be them having more to do during that freetime. But definitely think I'll try that out 👊
FYI bookshelves are bugged in console... They just dont work. The absolute only way to address the literacy need is to have people pass the foundational education program so they can work in the library. I trying to figure out why the kitchen is bugged on console
Nice video! Question, will really prisoners be more comfortable in a higher graded room? I thought this only refers to transfers. I mean, if I knew that it has a direct effect on prisoners I would take the extra mile to put more items into them.
Hey, thanks for the comment 😁 Yea it does, you can check a rooms grade to see what grade the room is vs the grade they deserve for their behaviour, I believe in a cell is goes as high as 15, so if you've got a 7 grade cell and a prisoner worthy of 10 this can cause them to get frustrated over time and act up more
Hey, thanks for taking the time to comment 😁 I can do, I've got a couple of other projects lined up at the minute but I can probably do one on policies after that. Is there something specific you wanted to know I could answer for you now?
Thanks for the comment mate 😁 Of course, as long as there is something I can create a guide on then there will be more to come. Anything you can think of?
is it a good idea to completely fill up all open jobs for prisoners? for example, lets say i have 5/8 prisoners working in my kitchen. should i fill it all up and make it 8/8?? my main question is, all rooms with labor jobs, should i fill it up with prisoners or should i leave a few spots open? i’m rlly late so i don’t expect a response. but if you do, thanks!
@bread3008 hey 😁 thanks for the comment. It's definitely worth filling all jobs that you have available. All work/programmes the prisoners complete goes towards their reform, sp the more jobs you got available the better. Its good because they can potentially get early release and the gov will pay you 1k per prisoner thats released and doesn't re offend
Is there a difference between the effects of FreeTime and Work/FreeTime? I usually choose Work/FreeTime in order to occupy as many inmates as possible, but is that worse for them in any way?
Thanks for the comment 😊 To be fair if you may find that people work a lot more, or attend programmes more but don't have as much freetime... its interesting... May have to see if there is a difference 🤔
I dont expect an answer but i have a question about the literature. I placed down bookshelves in the cells, but they still complain about literature i have a library, but i cant get people to pass the Foundation Education Class. So they end up going insane because the needs aren't met.... any tips?
Hey, thanks for the comment 😁 So how much free time do you inmates have? It may be they have the books there but just not enough time to read. You can create more of a need for inmates to pass by setting reductions in their sentence if they succeed in passing programmes - I believe this option is within the policy settings. I hope this helps 👍
Also is your library fully manned with inmates during work times? That might also be why they don't have the literature. Again you can set the wages to be higher to create more demand for this job in the finance section 👍
Hey, thanks for the comment 😁 Hmmmm... Ok thats an odd one, do you have work slots set up on the prisoners regime? As they'll attend programmes during those times instead of work?
@@supplyjam after going to the hell scape known as Reddit. I managed to figure out what was wrong. Apparently there’s a policy where I have to select what type of jobs each prisoner type can have.
Another issue I found that stopped interest in programs was suppression and punishment. Try reducing the number of armed guards if possible, and lower the penalties assigned to infractions under the policy tab.
@@supplyjam the problem is if you have a 100 phones a guard can only listen to one phone at a time So the guard has to cycle through 100 phone lines. Prisoners need to sit down to read a book. You have to place a chair or bench or something similar near a bookshelf.
I have an issue with programs. None of my prisoners are ever interested in anything other than parole hearings. Any idea how to fix this?
