I'm failing, big time. 75% through Project Hail Mary AND the T Kingfisher middle grade Wizard Guide to Baking book, and I'm really not enjoying either of them. No interest in finishing them.

I was drinking my tea while during the incest discussion part and almost had it all over my desktop from Emily’s need to specify book versus reality.
Getting rid of books that you don’t enjoy is so freeing! Well done!

I’m sure it’s frustrating/ boring to attempt reading a bunch of books you’re not enjoying, but I really enjoy this challenge! Really inspires me to read from my shelf, and a nice change within the book tube community
Sometimes with those "crack" books, I kind of skim them to see if they get better, find out what happens at the end, etc. Or I skip to the end and read the last bit and find out if it was worth it, then read in between if it's interesting enough. You don't have to waste time fully reading it but you still get the benefit of seeing what happens at least.

@@BookswithEmilyFox I thought you'd done some videos about spoiling endings to books you never want to finish? Maybe before you take that DNF stack to the library book sale and get rid of it, you can take the ones you are more curious about and actually read the last chapter or whatever you think is appropriate. If I recall correctly, and am not thinking of a different video, you were looking up spoilers. So actually reading the last chapter would be different than looking it up. A "read the last chapter" video would be just as fun to watch as the "read the first chapter" videos!

Love this challenge. Don't feel guilty about only partially reading them. I was thinking on way you could adapt the challenge is you could read a first chapter until you find one that you're interested in! That way you may end up getting rid of more books
I knew exactly what scene made you stop Three Dark Crowns before you even elaborated😂 I absolutely detested it but pushed through because a lot of batshit crazy stuff happens throughout the series. I definitely recommend looking up spoilers about the plot if you're intrigued!
I will always love Selection books because they got me back into reading 💜 but I will not read them again to check how I feel, it stays in the past 😂

I read So Long Chester Wheeler by Catherine Ryan Hyde and it was fantastic.
I think and hope you keep tally of the pages of DNFed books you've read throughout the year to add to your end of year wrap up. Not only would we, as your viewers, would be interested, but I think it would make you feel better about not finishing all the books you pick up too :))

I agree with DNFing more this year! I want to go hard with DNFing this year because my reading dramatically slows down when I’m forcing myself through a book.
I have a book that I do not like, and never liked, but forced myself to read. It was a very poorly written contemporary romance, yet still it lies in the book bin... a horcrux because I can't bring myself to unhaul it. 🤣But your energy is certainly selling the idea to me!

I started the year with All The Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham and it was incredible!
Mara Dyer was an interesting series. I didn't love it like everyone else seemed to, but it was a quick read that I couldn't put down. I read the whole trilogy really quickly. I bought the spin off series, but haven't touched it yet.

I honestly freaking hate people who get pets and then don’t take care of them. Like leaving the cat out during a storm?? Wtf. Honestly if they keep doing that you should just keep the kitty cus they obviously don’t care about her.
There's apparently a lot of neighbourhood gossip about that cat. The owner said she couldn't find her for weeks... but she lives 2 mins from me and the cat was here daily. Other neighbours have called her to pick the kitty up and the cat would be back a few hours later... I thought we were done but she started coming back the last two days and she goes directly for my trash can so I started feeding her :/
My neighbours wanted me to keep her (they have big dogs) but I don't want to steal anyone's cat :(
She's been sleeping in a box outside of their house for a while now

As soon as you picked up Under The Never Sky, I knew it wasn't gonna go well lol. I did absolutely eat up those Mara Dyer books, and the mystery stuff got more and more insane but I just could not do the Noah books.
I call them Hershey Bar Books. Cheap, waxy, enjoyable in the moment, and then forgettable. They're nice, sometimes, between Bowls of Lentil Stew.
I recently DNF'd The Archive because I was trying to read all the VE Schwab books. It was not terrible but I would have liked it more 10 years ago.

I had a cat who didn't want to be at one house. She would live with different neighbours all the time. I put "do not feed" on her collor but it didn't work. I couldn't keep her inside, she would go absolutely crazy at the door. She was super sweet when she was home but she was just a wild one. A few months ago she was hit by a car... People say you should just keep your cat in your own home but it wasn't that simple with her. I wish people wouldn't have fed her though.
Btw I have other cats who do stay at my house, it had nothing to do with how I treated her. I hope the black cat is being treated well by the owners
I don't think it's the same as she has been sleeping in a box outside of other my neighbour's house... she's tiny and it's been so cold :/
I do love Three Dark Crowns, but yeah, that scene was unnecessary. It becomes exclusively about the girls later on in the series though.
I was afraid it was going to be a big part of the future drama and I couldn't ... lol
@BookswithEmilyFox yeah, it is for like 5 seconds, but the later books the girls are too busy trying to survive politics and each other to worry about lovers basically and she basically drops all the love interest crap.
