This is truly the best trilogy of movies ever made. So you will end up watching parts 2 and 3. No spoilers, don't worry: Just know that they never planned to have a sequel, which meant they kind of painted themselves into a corner for what became part 2 as we are expecting them to go 30 years into the future. But the main thing to know is when the 2nd part ends and the Back to the Future logo appears? STOP THE VIDEO! The reason is that the put a long trailer for the 3rd movie that kind of spoils it. So make sure to stop the 2nd movie right at that logo appearing at the end and you'll be fine.

I'm going to be aging myself here, but this movie was the first movie I ever owned. And it was on VHS. It was the ONLY thing I really wanted for Christmas that year. I probably watched it 100 times by the next summer. And I still love it, nearly 40 years later.
New subscriber, also...will be diving into your other reactions.

I saw it with my mother as a teenager in the summer of 1985. It was fun on the way home talking about life in 1955 and how close to reality it was vs what was depicted. But also made me truly wonder what it would have been like to go back to my parent's high schools and see them as they were at my age. That's universal, and one of the key reasons to movie remains popular. No movie ever did that, and any that did later were just bad copies of this masterpiece.

When this movie was made, Zemeckis and Gale had no intention of doing any sequels. The part where the car flies off into the future was just meant to be one final joke, a sight gag. But the movie was such a success that they then decided to do a sequel. Not only that, but they had to deal with the inconvenient plot point of putting Jennifer in the car. You’ll understand when you see Parts 2 and 3.

It’s so normal these days for sequels to be announced years ahead of time, people that weren’t around sometimes assume it was always that way. I only remember that happening a handful of times back then and ironically those sequels ended up not happening

I still think it is unique that it goes from Twin Pines 🌲 Mall to Lone Pines Mall by the time Marty comes back in time. It shows that Marty changed time by the farmer. And running over the pine trees.

As a guy who grew up in Vancouver, Canada, Michael J. Fox was huge in the 80s. My babysitter in the early to mid 90s had a huge crush on him. All of the inside references, including the Ronald Reagan joke (because Michael J. Fox played a Republican kid in Family Ties around the same time) really work, except the joke about John F. Kennedy. JFK wasn't president until 1961, but he was a World War 2 hero, and that coupled with his family name helped him get elected president, so you'd think Lorraine's father in 1955 would have heard of him. He didn't just come out of nowhere.

    1. Cranky principal Strickland/James Tolkan also played the ship's squadron leader in "Top Gun".
    2. The teacher that tells Marty, "I'm afraid you're just too darn loud" is Huey Lewis himself. (Heart of rock and roll etc.)
    3. Eric Stoltz was first cast as Marty, but he didn't play well with others and was fired. Some of his long shots are still in the movie.
    4. The flammable material set on fire with the model exercise had to have been put there on purpose.
    5. It's always fun to see how people react to the Marty and his mom car scene.
    6. George McFly/Crispin Glover didn't like that the story ended with the family being prosperous.
    7. Twin Pines Mall becomes Lone Pine Mall when Marty takes one out when he goes back to 1955.
    8. IMVHO part II is the best of the trifecta.
    9. If you want a first time/share of an OUTSTANDING movie where Christopher Lloyd plays the heavy you must do "Who Framed Roger Rabbit".

Oh yeah time travel as a concept can be a tricky one to understand as there's just so many differant ideas and forms of Time Travel in media.
With Back to the Future it uses the idea that changes made in the past will have a lasting effect on the present, pretty much erasing the original timeline. So the actions of Marty in this film has given birth to a new timeline post 1955 with major changes. From Chuck Berry discovering his iconic sound from Marty to Twin Pines Mall becoming Lone Pine Mall and of course the major change to Marty's parents.
There's also the branched timeline idea were changes to the past does not rewrite history. They split the timeline into an alternate branch timeline. This action does not change or erase your original timeline. So for example you could go back in time and stop WW2 but once you return to your present day nothing would've changed.
If this was how time travel worked in Back to the Future then Marty would've been 100% fine. Could've killed his parents and he'd still be okay. He'd just create a timeline in which he never existed.
So with time travel there's never a single role of how this works across media. It very much depends on the film or show.

I first saw this movie in a movie theater in 1985, when I was 29 years old, and really enjoyed it. Seeing it again makes me nostalgic for the 1980s, when (science fiction aside) there was just enough technology. Technology today, in my opinion, has become an end in itself rather than a means that provides a service. We didn't need the Internet and we certainly didn't need to carry it around in pocket-sized phones that everyone would become obsessed with. (Please excuse the rant. I've been unusually irritable recently for personal reasons. I do bank and pay bills online and obviously, I watch TH-cam videos.) DeLoreans, manufactured for a few years by a mogul named John DeLorean, were the subject of a lot of humor when they came out in the 80s . They were actually on the road as luxury cars but they were way too expensive for most people. The do look a bit like spaceships, with the doors opening sideways. Back to the Future would have been a classic even without the 2 sequels (which were made only as a reaction to popular demand.) In the mid-1980s I knew of both Michael J. Fox and Chistopher Lloyd from TV sitcoms. Fox was in "Family Ties" as a conservative Republican youth who lived with his 2 sisters and their liberal, ex-1960s-hippie parents. He was still doing that show when also filming BTF. He'd been the first choice to play Marty and stepped in to replace another actor, who had already filmed some scenes, who was early on considered wrong for the part. Fox, now an advocate for researching a cure for Parkinson's disease, which he has, is in his 60s and married to the woman who played his "Family Ties" girlfriend in early episodes. I knew of Lloyd (still active today in his 80s) from the sitcom "Taxi," (1979-83) in which he played an eccentric, Doc-like cabbie, one of a whole cast of drivers including "foreign man" comedian Andy Kaufman. The taxi company dispatcher was played by Danny DeVito, who's still in the motion picture business. Christopher Lloyd was also in, among quite a few others, the movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" (another 1980s film also worth reviewing) which features live actors alongside cartoon characters called "toons." (Lloyd plays the anti-toon villain and there's a surprise ending.) BTF inspired the TV cartoon "Rick and Morty," I recently learned on TH-cam (Culturally I don't get around much these days.) Thanks for this reaction video.

in 1985 i saw it in the theater. The DeLorean was a failed car...and when we all saw it come out of the trailer the audience all laughed hard. Many jokes will go over your head...When Doc says Ronald Reagan is President? The actor?" that got one of the biggest laughs, he really was actor, in title anyway, and President in the 1980's. "Great Scott!!" comes from Superman comic books of the 1950's/60's. on and on little jokes that may go over your head if you did not live in the era. Notice the name of the mall changed from Twin pine to lone pine? the first film was never intended to be a trilogy. That happened after it's extreme popularity.

So fun fact, even though the movie ends with a giant cliffhanger, it was never even intended to have a sequel or be a trilogy. It was just supposed to be a one-and-done. But the movie was so successful that sequels were essentially demanded.

Also, the end of part 2 is gonna have a trailer for part 3. DO NOT watch that because it spoils the final movie. After you finish the trilogy, you can go back to that and see if it felt like a spoiler filled trailer to you, it definitely did for a lot of people.

A trilogy where all 3 are superb, brilliant, a masterpiece in there own way. My preferance is = 1 - 3 - 2 --- NO! it's = 3 - 1 - 2 No! it's all of them 🤯 Just watch them and Enjoy 🙂 . It is the trilogy that wraps up like no other I’ve ever seen.
