Get ya barrel smoker…. Save you the hassles and headaches When you need to cook something you end up taking all that junk apart and by the time you get it back together you could made good steak. Barrel smokers where it’s at
Thanks for the tutorial and advice! I found a sidewalk special with a sign "free - burns hot" Lil Tex across the street. Decided to do a full rebuild, the ultimate cause of failure was the burn pot was rotted through. Replaced hot rod as well as I could see there was damage from overburning and probably not cleaning often. Old style controller, so decided to do that as well, so at that point, bought a full parts kit and replaced auger motor and induction fan as well. $160 and a like new Traeger. Granted with a little corrosion, but also already broken in. Great explanation of the replacement process. Hold my beer and pass me that pork butt.
Dude you give so much bonus info and tips on these Traeger videos. I may have an issue with mine, got it used, but it was free. Thanks to your content, I should be able to get it figured out. Cheers 🍻
Pro tip. Tie i piece of string to the clip end of old one before pulling it through. the transfer the string to the end of new one and pull it back through. Super simple and removes a lot of frustration .
Thanks man, that was very thorough and informative, I’m disabled and in the past I’d of jumped right on this, but now I don’t know who to turn to--I live in Canton Georgia so it close to you, unfortunately!

Thanks for this video... one of the hot rods in my Traeger XL went out and I figured the other wasn't far behind. This video definitely helped me replace both today. Nicely done.
Good video . . . Mine did not get hot tonight which is why I'm watching this video. Use some anti-cease on the screws like the high temp stuff the use on diesel exhaust systems temperature probes. My probe is not burned away so maybe it's the fuse? For now I used a torch to light it.
If the fuse blows then the controller will not get power, if the hot rod is not getting hot then disconnect the purple connector until you get a replacement it will most likely end up blowing the fuse.. but first check for hard build up in the burn pot
Got rid of my Louisiana Smoker hoping for a pellet grill that was a bit more user friendly. This fix seems to be a common thing. I'm regretting getting rid of my old home built wood smoker. Pellet grills seem like they're more trouble than they're worth.
Hot rods on the AC model pellet grills usually last 10-12 years, I see a lot of bad trouble shooting that leads to replacement of the hotrod when the user simply had bad pellets for poor storage or a long period of no use causing moisture to swell the pellets
Can this cause the traeger to be energized equipment and cause a shock hazard? I have a traeger with 50v volts on it when it’s plugged in. It’s “shocking.”
Sorry I didn't see this sooner it is the busiest time of year for me... Is your timberline a Gen1 or D2? Different answer for the AC vs DC.. 916-261-1305 text or call anytime
Thanks for the tutorial, I replaced both the hot rod and the burn pot, since it was so warped that the new hot rod didn't fit. After doing all this... it still didn't burn right
Great video! So, I take it that a hot rod either burns hot enough to ignite the pellets, or it doesn't get warm at all? What about the fan? If the fan fails, does the rod still get hot? My fan is not working, but the rod is warm. Could it be the circut board not telling the fan to turn on? I have a Century 22.
Very clear and concise tutorial!! I'd like to know after running that smoker for a YEAR... why you don't have any grease coating the sides? Must be a vegetarian or you hate bacon?? LOL
so I need your help we have a Traeger 850 Timberline the hot rod wire got pulled all the way out and I have no guide wire to fish it through I'm having a problem getting my new hot rod in the Timberline 850
@@scriggykomok4029 I replaced the hot rod. It did finally start working. But the firepot was disintegrating so I also replaced that. It heated up so much faster.
My ole lady bought me two three of these smokers and I was suppose to cook myself Father’s Day dinner or whatever but I had a feeling it would turn to junk after couple uses and regular cleanings. They last bout a year and junk again. Either need a new woman or buy myself dinner. Can’t be throwing smokers out left and right.
Incredibly thorough tutorial to watch for this beginner Traeger owner. 🤘😎
Glad it was helpful!

EXCELLENT assistant to changing out the Hot Rod
Love getting feed back! Glad to have helped out

I was looking at buying a new one, not free like yours. At a $1200 price point, gonna pass.

Hopefully Amazon gets the parts here tomorrow so Memorial Day barbecue doesn’t get ruined. Thank you, my man.
Happy to subscribe. Wish I was closer but Maine is a tad too far for a road trip. Now on to attempting this replacement fix. Cheers

@@AmericanRiverAceHardwareBBQ There's no build up in the pot and the controller works. I had to watch another video to see where the fuse was located.

What about the fuse portion?

Where was that fuse at?
Hi, Great Video. I replaced the Hot Rod on my Timberline 850, however I still can't get it to ignight. I can not find the fuse. Any ideas??

How do I really know if I need a burn pot or just a hot rod
The igniter went bad after 45 minutes of run time?
Thanks a lot for the video it helped

A little late I'm sure but I'm now connected to the channel if you have questions still I'll be happy to help
How did you get the electrical wire to disconnect so easy I’m having a hard time?
Sometimes you need to really wiggle it around I've had some that didn't want to disconnect
Thanks. I think I can fix mine now.
Awesome video. You really helped me out.I make maple syrup if you ever come to Michigan hit me up for a bottle. Thanks again
Will do. Glad it was helpful.
I might need to now lol
Much easier access if you take the hopper assembly off.

I changed mine and it smoked but then doesn't keep heating up. How do you change the fuse?
If the fuse is bad it won't turn on at all... Sounds like your fan is not spinning
