    Definitely the best way.. no need to take the hopper off. Just pull it through the fan area to get a better pull/push through.

    Great Video - My igniter went out and your video really helped. You cut the cable and tape the new cable was very useful way to fish the new cable through. Price for the igniter was $15 on Amazon. Thanks again!

    Great video, thanks for posting! Exactly how mine was as well. Traeger sent me the hot rod free (UPS in about 5 days to Alberta, Canada). Instructions said to insert 3/16 to 1/4" inch into the firebox. Back in business!

    Did you have to drill a hole to install your rtd?

  • @Etherdave
    @Etherdave 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video, everything explained. Liked the 'electrical tape' business to avoid having to remove the hopper. Our model however is the BBQ070 which does not use a digital control module. Does anyone know if the older control can be replaced by the digital control, or is there a voltage issue? Thanks for posting!

    • @TheBeardedGriller
      @TheBeardedGriller  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe you can change to the new style, I'd give traeger a call just to double check! Thanks for watching!

    • @Etherdave
      @Etherdave 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There shouldn't be a problem, as the 070 comes with holes pre-drilled for installing the RTD temp sensor. In the meantime we need to replace the auger motor and the hot rod, so we will go with restoration, then upgrade. Thanks for posting!

    • @dwm1949
      @dwm1949 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Years ago I replaced the original “3 position switch” on my vintage BBQ 070 “Lil’ Texas” Traeger with the digital controller model BAC227; yesterday I replaced that controller with the newer “Elite” BAC236. Works fine.

    • @Etherdave
      @Etherdave 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ADDENDUM: The BBQ070 is perfectly compatible with today's replacement parts. Replaced the auger motor/fan, replaced the hot rod, replaced the controller board with a new digital-display board that includes 2 meat probes and a temperature sensor. We've had a whole summer of excellent BBQ and the grill has not gotten exceptionally dirty after 5 months' use!

    Is there a fuse specifically for the ignitor or auger? I have bower fan/temp power just no auger and no ignitor working.

    Thanks for the motivation and can do attitude. I am not mechanically inclined and I started to do this on my own, quickly ran into obstacles and thoughts of defeat and demotivation. I kind of like the fact that TBG ran into issues and had such a positive and confident approach. Googled the issue and this video popped up. I'm going to subscribe and look forward to see what else enters the stream

    Thanks this video is well done........it confirmed I have a bigger issue with how dumb Traeger was when they consructed some units as mind does not have a screw holding the hot rod in place. Traeger got inspired and welded the hot rod to the fire box unit.. I'm having to drill the old hot rod from the fire box.

  • @glendarogers9158

    What if the old hot rod is already out. What is the best way to feed the wires through

    How do I know it’s time to replace ? My stupid grill just stopped to produce smoke at all . Gets on fire ( don’t know if it’s enough) held the temperature but no smoke at all ! So frustrating.

    My Traeger is tripping it circuit breaker on the mains even when the Traeger is turned off on the switch on the front. It’s a pro22. Any advice would great thanks

    • @TheBeardedGriller
      @TheBeardedGriller  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That doesn't sound good, I would call traeger they have pretty good customer service. I'm fairly handy but that's a little past my electrical knowledge.

    • @joealcantar291
      @joealcantar291 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A hot rod /igniter can fail as an open or fail shorting to ground. If shorting to ground it may trip your breaker. Easy way to find out is to kill power (unplug unit) remove bottom cover to gain access to hot rod connector and disconnect it. Make sure all wiring is clear of fan etc. and plug back in turn on and see if it trips the breaker again if so you may have another issue. If it stays on, more than likely the hot rod failed. Replace it.

    Its it ok to extend the rod to more than 1/2 inch out?

      Fuse is on the control panel. Some have an extra/spare fuse wire tied to it, above cover for fuse.

    hi. how does ash exit the fire box? i saw holes only on the sides but not on the bottom. i thought the holes on the sides were for air that is blown into that "bowl". does that air also blow ash up and out?
    (im thinking of removing the pellet box along with the fire box and incorporating into a custom outdoor brick bbq grill ...and maybe use the same lid)

    • @TheBeardedGriller
      @TheBeardedGriller  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the ash blows up and out of the bowl and lands all around underneath,

    • @TheBeardedGriller
      @TheBeardedGriller  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes the ash blows up and out of the bowl and lands all around underneath the drip pan, air is blown down past the auger through the holes from the fan underneath the pellet Hopper. if you do a Google search online you can find Hopper assemblies for sale on their own a friend of mine built his own custom pellet smoker.

    why did he CUT the wires?????? now dont he have to replace the wires
    now????l

    • @TheBeardedGriller
      @TheBeardedGriller  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am confused by your comment? The only wires cut were off the bad ignitor that has no use at all and just used them as a fishing wire. Hope you got yours fixed!

    • @joealcantar291
      @joealcantar291 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He cut the wire because the igniter blew up, affecting the outside diameter. So he cut the wires to make it easier to work on so he could cut the blemished end and get it to slide through the hole without damaging pot.
