Hello guys! Nice informative test, but you two chuckleheads left out one very important and distinctive feature. That’s the fact this is the only van in this class sold in America with fully independent suspension!
I have the same car in Europe but it has Opel badge ( Opel belongs to GM ) It is named OPEL COMBO. The cool part is that I have 2 liter diesel engine with a little electronic power increase It produces 160 hp and 273 ft Originally 136 hp and 240 ft
+The Fast Lane Truck love to see how a nice early 2000s truck would stack up against a modern truck. Like an early 2000s stock f-150 or silverado with the 5.4 or 5.3
@@TFLtruck I still don't understand why you guys "race" or time yourselves on how fast a vehicle goes up a specific grade of road [Ike Gauntlet]. Care to explain.
you guys should really start including the downhill session into your reviews. towing isn't always about pulling, because you've got to stop at some point. If you do a review of the new Chevy Colorado Duramax, it should especially be included. Think about it. Who is going to want to pull 7,700 lbs, and not have any idea of how its going to perform with that much weight behind it. Braking and keeping the load in check is just as important as hauling it up a hill. Great work though! Really enjoying all these tests! Keep it up!
Landon Whitehead they have done a comparison between a Colorado V6gas and Canyon Diesel. But the Colorado gas did the deed at 8:00 min. The diesel took almost 10 min ! But the diesel did get better mileage.
***** They currently do not have a small diesel that is US emissions compliant. As I understand it, there is one under development that we may see here in the US in a couple of years. Until then we get gasoline powertrains only, which is also all that FCA's competitors offer.
I'd like to see this same test done on a 2018ish Ford Transit Connect Cargo. Ford claims 2000lb towing capacity with 2.5l engine. I'm imagining towing a 1200lb trailer plus stuff on road trips. Doable?
I vacation in silverthorne every summer. One summer we took a 2001 Corolla S. I could only hold 55-60mph floored almost to the rev limiter. That hill up to the tunnel is no joke.
Rush R40!! I went too Nathan!! June 17th in Toronto! When and where did you go? Did you enjoy the show? I loved how they went from album to album in chronological order
Awesome! I saw them in Detroit on the R40 tour. It was a memorable show, and the 8th time I had seen Rush in concert. Sad that they won't tour anymore, but all good things must come to an end sometime.
Those rear doors aren't really THAT impressive, Nathan. They honestly should be able to fold 270 degrees like a Merc Sprinter and Ford Transit. I know the reason is because the side sliding door gets in the way if it's open, but the engineers should find a way around that. The Transit Connect is the same way as the Ram, and it's not ideal.
guys you should test all of gms vans 4.8,6.0,2.8 dmax as well as firds offerings in diffent engines.....i just bought a 16 express 2500 with the L20 4.8....this is the last offering from gm with the 4.8 v8...its no longer in any other of their trucks
KYoss68 agreed...i would like to see the three engines gm offers in their 2500 cargo vans vs fords offerings compared to mercedes towing wise and compare the mpg's
Can somebody please tell me what the length of the cargo space. Some websites say 70, some say 77 and some say 80 something. And I know there aren’t any models with different lengths. So what is the real cargo space length?
I love these towing videos! Can't wait to see you max out the new Tesla Model X SUV. It will tow 10,000lb supposedly! ....I think the Ike will defeat it though!
Paul Wicklund the nissan nv200 is horrible!, i bought one new and had nothing but trouble with it, traded it in with 10k on the odometer for a promaster city. the ram is a MUCH MUCH better rig in every way. the only thing i preferred in the nissan was the navigation unit, the rams isn't as easy to use.
I'm curious as is why it tows now and wouldn't tow before? Link? What did FCA do for TFLT that it wouldn't do for the everyday customer? As a potential customer, this leaves quite a few unanswered questions.
I'd say it was too noisy while it was not loaded much. Imaging how tough task it would be if you load trailer and put 5 people inside. I think diesel would be better for towing. P.S. For $27K I'd prefer RAM 1500, maybe not new. PPS Андрей научи Натана выговаривать "До свидания" чуть лучше ;)
Tell me what are you going to tow with this????? Can't tow a trailer with 2 Harley's on it. Can't tow a single axle utility trailer with 1200 lbs of debri's in it. NO thank you on this van.
video is pointless.. Question: Will it Tow? this thing has the same torque as a Honda civic with a k24..DOES THAT THING????? NOON Seriously idk what these dudes are thinking
My testing is real world 30k as a work van. All I can say is, Its Crap! I had one of these for my work van. company payed for everything so that's all cool. BUT its a Fiat, not a Ram. The 9 speed is so bad ! it never can make up its mind! It also is crap for MPGs mixed 21mpg. I also had several break downs in 30k. He says its "quick"??? yup he's a slow truck guy that drive slow trucks if he thinks that van is "quick!" A 2005 corolla has more go juice! the Only good thing I can say, its good for putting stuff in! But thats about all it does good. HATED driving that van, but if was free so whatever. Also NOTE if you'er over 6' don't buy the van with the cage you will not fit! My sum up ITS a POS shop other vans. .
I have a question about weight distribution on a small converted van that might be affecting steering and tire wear. I have built a microcamper on a Promaster city van. I weight 250lbs and am most often alone. Because I need the passenger side clear for a bed and because i have an oversized starter battery, a house battery, water storage and appliances there might be a 300 to 500 lb weight disparity between sides of the van, but much of it is behind the rear wheels. I dont visually see a difference, but do often feel she pulls to the left. How big of a deal is this on a van that weights 3500 lb curb weight?
It is basically a Fiat Doblo with huge petrol engine and autiomatic transmission :D
Diesel Doblo 🙏🙏

Idea: Buy an old beater truck to tow up the Ike and see if it will make it to the top without dying.
Hmm... Interesting idea...

oisiaa | Lol, that's what they just did this week, a year later.

To begin with, these guys are lying on the weight facts. Don’t believe them.
10:55 Well done Fiat, not Ram.
It sounds like it was about to blow up at any time. I noticed that it was quieter when you was showing the sound leave.
why 2.4L petrol with 174 lb-ft of torque when fiat sells that truck in europe with a diesel 2L with 135 HP and 236 lb-ft?

1guyin10 alright makes sense then. thanks for the info :)
US emission laws are stricter. Sucks.
A lot of European capitals are intending on banning diesels so its a risk buying one now.
Americans have fat wives to haul around
I'd like to see what the Transit Connect Ecoboost with this same load. Maybe y'all should add cargo vans to the Golden Hitch awards.
I would second that. It would be neat to see how the little ecoboost does in the mountains
Jesse Henry I'd like to see a 2015 Sienna tackle the Ike gauntlet.
Joe Blo we don't like astro vans. Prefer Toyota Previas or Siennas
Thanks for this review I am thinking about buying this van. Very helpful information.

How many people from Ireland can be found under the hood of the Ram ProMaster City? It's 2.4 according to this test, with the MultiEir...
I heard recently that these engines burn more oil than usual. Did you have to add oil after this test ? Curious ....

depends how much your wife weighs....

neat little van

What??? A new Ram product not working?? Well at least they got it fixed!! Nice vid!!
It was actually an issue with their trailer lights IIRC, not a problem with the van.
Mark S It didn`t work because it is a Fiat ;-)
It was a problem with the hitch wiring for the trailer lights. The issue is fixed now
Sounded like the poor engine was screaming the whole time. Would like to see it up against the transit
Does the transit connect city have a tow hitch? Mine didnt...
Eric Wotton the transit connect doesn’t tow as much. And their going up the steepest highway in the world
This thing REALLY needs a little 4cyl turbo diesel. 150ish HP and 250ish TQ. And of course RWD
I second that notion except for RWD drivetrain. FWD is the way to go these especially for a little van like this one.
Rush R40!! I went too Nathan!! June 17th in Toronto! When and where did you go? Did you enjoy the show? I loved how they went from album to album in chronological order
Pepsi Center in Denver and the SAP Center at San Jose. It was EPIC!
Awesome! I saw them in Detroit on the R40 tour. It was a memorable show, and the 8th time I had seen Rush in concert. Sad that they won't tour anymore, but all good things must come to an end sometime.
You should do one with the full size ProMaster!
Thanks, you just helped us find our new vehicle...how come no review of this in consumer reports? What a shame. Love it.
I remember the offset doors opening that way in my father's Fiat Ducato more than 25 years ago...

seems like this is the best of the small vans
icemanroyal Could also be merged with small CUVs, given the similar weight, engines, and towing.
Nissan NV200 is awesome! Also, more headroom and a slightly shorter wheel base. Nissan NV200 will have a lomger life-span.
I would LOVE to see an Ike Gauntlet challenge with a Chevy/GMC diesel 3500 Van. pleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseeeee!
It's difficult to get these vans for our test. But it would be interesting.
KYoss68 agreed...i would like to see the three engines gm offers in their 2500 cargo vans vs fords offerings compared to mercedes towing wise and compare the mpg's
EXACTLY the same setup as my Cherokee Trailhawk 2.4.
Nice video, thank you!
has any of these new vehicles u guys test on the gauntlet ever over heated or broke down,if so tell us the story please.
No, we have not had any serious breakdowns on the Ike Gauntlet.
Oops guys - 'Ike GUANTLET' on screen at around 1:35 - really?
it also has independent suspensions that vw jetta dont:)
what would be better for towing a zero turn this or a ford transit connect 2.5?
Welcome to the world of Metric Design! LOL!
Can somebody please tell me what the length of the cargo space. Some websites say 70, some say 77 and some say 80 something. And I know there aren’t any models with different lengths. So what is the real cargo space length?
Here’s what they just stated on the video at the 4:12 point. It’s 87.2” length, 60.4” wide and 51.8” tall inside
How was it?
I love these towing videos! Can't wait to see you max out the new Tesla Model X SUV. It will tow 10,000lb supposedly! ....I think the Ike will defeat it though!
It will need to stop and recharge before halfway LOL
Yeah 450 mi turn to 85 mi on 4,000 lbs.
What action cameras did you guys use to film this?
Which vehicle has gotten the best mpg so far on the Ike Gauntlet?
This was it. The best MPG ever. However, it also towed the lightest load.
I'd rather get a Chrysler town and country with stow and go and it averages about 21 it's max trailer capacity is 3500lbs
You consider 8.4 Miles per gallon good?
DavidisDawei towing a trailer uphill? yes
DavidisDawei you should see the trucks they get 3 mpg
Test the Nissan/Chev 200 with the cvt trans.

They’re not rated to tow because the CVT I was told at Nissan

canddmeyer Our lights would not function properly with the previous connector. No lights, no test. FCA had a dealership fix the problem.
nathan adlen Thank you for the update.
FCA told us the dealer repaired the van's trailer plug so that the taillights worked on the camper.
Now check the oil.
Love the vids but quick question will you test a Toyota Hilux as it is one off the best selling pick ups in the world 😃
Joseph West Hilux are not sold in the US. The American equivalent would be the Tacoma
TheWarDonkey Which they will test one as soon as they a '16 likely in October-December.
