Great pics. The first, the sunset, and your son walking into water are amazing. All have great colors and depth.

In the late 70"s I went to photo school in San Francisco for awhile on the GI Bill and work study. Tri-X and Kodachrome days, a blast! I had a Nikon F2 with a 55mm micro and a 105. My classmate and good buddy had an Olympus OM-1 and a couple of Zuiko lenses. I remember how small and exquisite his camera was and how darn good his pictures were. Olympus makes some truly sweet gear!

Some some great photos and appreciated how you walked us through how you chose the right tool for this use! Recently saw a TH-cam video from Matti Sulanto and he showed how he got wonderful 30x20 inch prints using 1 inch, MFT, APSC and FF sensors. Largely all perfect. Each has its strengths, but the results often all the same if the right tool used for the job.

Really nice photos Eric, especially the family shot. That kit sounds like a winner.

It’s interesting. I think the colors from Olympus have always sat well with me. The lack of shallow DOF as a crutch makes me think about framing more … but the reality is any camera can make these images.

It’s funny to see how you seem to circle back to OM/Olympus. Just keep the OM-5 and a few favorite lenses along with whatever full frame you like. Small, capable gear has a place.

had no idea you bounced back to Olympus/OM. I switched to Sony back in March. Even tough it's a great camera IMO it is boring next to my OM-1. The dof, IQ and noise is better but I miss the hell out of the features that were packed into my Olympus gear. Been having some serious regrets about selling it all like I did.

Still pick it up on most occasions that dont include bird in flight over the OM-1. Its a great small alternative that doesn't get in the way of the moment.

Great images! The Olympus really seems to shine as a travel/video cam. If I were doing paid portrait work, I’d keep the Leica SL2S & Sumicron.

Thoughts on the Olympus 17mm f1.8? Seems like a lens people either love or hate in the system. I personally love it, especially having the manual clutch.

I have been struggling with severe attacks of GAS over the last 1-2 years now. Voices in my head has been saying that I should go for Sony then the next day Fuji instead of the old E-M5 Mk ii I have that still does a fine job at most things.
However, I have so far survived 2 years of my GAS voices wanting me to buy stuff hoping I could maybe one day find something affordable in the M4/3 systems that would suit me mere than the E-M5 mk ii. The OM-1 would be perfect but is too costly IMO for what it is. The OM-5 while being a step up (probably a huge step both AF and feature-wise) is also a tad expensive here. It seems like while any other brand can be had for discounts OM-System are dictating what the vendors are supposed to charge for their products. Which is a shame.
Seeing you circulate cameras and systems and then making sound compromises due to your private life is more or less a visualization of all of the things happening in my head.
My hope is that 1. The OM-System prices adjust to the market better. 2. That watching videos like yours make me realize that I shouldn't jump systems at any costs, just because of the GAS voices in my head :)

I have 7-14mm f2.8, the only lens i need. Just need to learn to work with wide angle distortion. You should try 7-14mm lens

I've also been fighting the Olympus / OM vs. Fuji battle over the years. Recently I've come to realize I love the design of the Fujis more than I love their output (in my hands anyways), and I've had a hard time getting rid of them because they're so beautiful and retro, haha. I keep getting drawn back to M43 for the more squared format, even if technically, the image quality isn't all the way up there with the bigger sensor brands.

Ah hard to do that. Both have great colors … Olympus has more features but overall IQ is better on Fuji and Fuji has more SOOC color options. Both have their own soul and are great in their own way

Just because it's not what you wanted doesn't make it a flop. As Eric is saying, it's the only camera of its size and weight will all the features and capabilities it has. In fact, it has features no other cameras besides other OM System cameras have. Haters gonna' hate, I guess.

    • @stevenbamford5245
      @stevenbamford5245 ปีที่แล้ว

@@gregfeeler6910 I don't hate any camera or system it's inanimate object so that would be silly.
The OM-5 was underwhelming upon release, using old tech with some bells and whistles from the OM-1.
The general consensus was that OM system were using leftover tech from the Olympus days.
It's not a camera that I would consider although I did have the OM-1 at the time, which is a much better option if you're getting into OM system.
I think Olympus was a great system and the OM-1 is a fantastic camera, but unfortunately the OM-5 took a step backwards, when they should have seized the opportunity to keep the innovation moving forward.
