Ironically, despite Bastion saying that he has calculated this duel to perfection, he opens it with a misplay. Had Bastion summoned Oxygeddon instead of Carboneddon on the first turn, he would have summoned Water Dragon earlier which may have defeated Jaden.
@jplays1999 Basically, if Bastion had summoned Oxygeddon in attack mode on the first turn, then Jaden would be forced to fuse in order to destroy it to deal damage to Bastion without risk, which he would not let happen. Or if Bastion summoned Oxygeddon in defence mode, Jaden would use the monster with the lowest attack in his starting hand to destroy it to ensure more damage on his next turn. That monster being Burstinatrix, which will trigger Oxygeddon's effect. Bastion would have done his Living Fossil play, reviving Oxygeddon and fused it with his two Hydrogeddons with Bonding H2O to form Water Dragon before Jaden got Bubble Shuffle and Bladedge.
@@danielman396 except that would also remove Last Magnet, boosting Bladedge back to 2600 and removing Doom Swordsman's atk boost. So he would have had to set spirit barrier and pass without doing *any* damage.

They knew what they had with bastion misawa. This is why they put a shotgun to his kneecaps, It's not like they power crept him or anything, they just straight up had to force him to play really badly against one of the worst of the Shadow riders. They made everything go wrong for him in that one episode, from to Misplaying to flat out simping, two things that almost never happened to him. They basically DEMANDED THAT HE SITS TF DOWN and let others win.
By the time S2 ended, Jaden's squad had 4 new hypemen who were not only all capable duelists in their own right there was simply no room for Bastion anymore. Hell, even Alexis offered nothing to the group because she gets replaced by Blair.
It probably would have, if they continued this slice of life side of the anime. But since it Shifted course into world ending events, that was probably dropped
Fun fact, before this duel, Jaden had only one copy of Polymerization in his deck and it was right after that Bastion countered it, Jaden leaned DEEP into fusion as his gimmick and started top loading his deck with basically every fusion card in existence to the point where he was crippling dependent on cards like Miracle Fusion and Fusion Gate to compensate for his Neo Spacians.
He still didn't have 3 polys at the end of the series. He ends the series with roughly playing 2 polys, miracle fusion, miracle contact, Super poly, and occsionally double fusion.

Yeah but without polymerization it really blocks Jaden's fusion support cards such as fusion recovery or wroughtweiler, since they both require polymerization and a monster in the graveyard and fusion recovery specifically requires that it be a monster used in a fusion summon. And since Fusion Gate removes from play the monsters used in a fusion summon, even if polymerization somehow managed to hit the graveyard he can't just use his recovery cards to get a monster back. Blocking Polymerization really hamstrings fusion summoning back then.

He was better off with Cursed Seal. Non-Fusion area could only block fusion summoning as long as it's on the field, which unless Bastion protected it somehow, would be susceptible to S/T removal. Once gone, so is the restriction, which puts him on a clock to win before Jaden could out it. But outright blocking Polymerization from being used with cursed seal, it's permanent, and can't be circumvented, unless Jaden could counter that counter-trap right AT activation with another counter-trap.

true, but you still had to draw them at that point. back then, there weren't alot of card searchers, especially for unique fusion cards. You had terraforming for fields and fusion sage for poly, but no way to get those cards on a regular basis. But in later seasons, he gets a couple more searchers to get those cards. Personal favorite is Demise of the land.

Curse seal of the forbidden spell is one of my favorite cards, i have them x3 irl, og print from IOC so powerfull card, can be good against reasoning gate, or any annoying spell card that people play x3.
Looking back at it, jaden shouldve lost when hyozanryu attacks clayman, jaden only lost 300lp when his clayman was destroyed indicating that hero city gave clayman the 1000atk bonus even though he was attacked, when they have said many times hero city only gives the elemental heros the 1000 point bonus when they attack not the other way around
Bastion played very well in this duel. Bastion is like normal players they prepare their decks, side decks and try to predict the opponent's strategies
Duels like this show why it's never a good idea to rely on one tactic. If an opponent can shut down your strategy, then you will struggle. Although, nowadays, it is unlikely to see counter cards like Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell since modern strategies are harder to stop and most traps, especially counter traps like Cursed Seal, are too slow to use
13:12 - misplay by Jaden. He should have held off an activating Emergency Provisions. Instead, he should have chained it with Hero Signal to get an extra 1000 lifepoints.
Wonder how it would had turned out of he left Avon on the field. As someone who study Jaden deck could see that bubble man card and take it into consideration. With leaving Avon out he couldn't draw 2 which means mirage would had came a turn or two later anyway you slice it that was a +6 draw in card advantage. Plus I also would had taken into consideration miracle fusion if he had it in his deck at that time.

TGS Anime needs to do a breakdown of this duel. If he had used Cursed Seal on Spark Blaster (lol, hear me out), Jaden would have had no way to take out Oxigeddon. Then Bastion could have summoned Hydrogeddon, attacked Burstinatrix, summoned another, used Oxigeddon to take out Sparkman, attack directly, and then summon his Water Dragon during Main Phase 2. Jaden would only have Bubbleman and Avian. Even if he had Mariner at that point in the series (his Extra Deck definitely expands as the show goes on), it could do a small amount of damage Bastion smashed into it with Water Dragon.
On the other hand, since Bastion doesn't know what's in Jaden's hand, I could see why he'd be reluctant to waste his ace card on a spell as trivial as Spark Blaster.
So you sit on a computer and do rocket science to figure out that polymerization is the common factor in all of his fusion summons. Wow, that was so hard to figure out.
Alas not. Skyscraper is kinda stupid in the Anime it gives all HERO monsters 1000 atk if they're weaker, not just when they attack so Clayman would have been at 1800 and Jadwn would have survived with 400lp plus then Bladedge at 2800 would have been too strong for Hyozanryu. But what if he used his Wingbeat of Giant Dragons Spell first? well that would remove Last Magnet which would bring Doom Swordsman to 0 atk and we'd still be in the same final turn. The only difference is Jaden wouldn't have 1000lp to spare to ram Wildheart into Doom Swordsman and win with Cyclone Boomerang.
Bastion really got the shaft when they decided to shift the plot from “high school drama” to “cosmic horror” with an obviously shoehorned “our protagonist is actually a reincarnated ancient king so we can milk nostalgia for the original show”.

Burstinatrix is a warrior monster, not a pyro. So when Oxygeddon activated its effect when Burstinatrix attacked and destroyed it, Jaden should not have taken any damage at all. Bastion, I call shenanigans.
The Voice Actor messed up cause that's how the card works in the Real Game. Funnily enough, this caused Bastion to lose, because if had 800 more LP, Cyclone Boomerang wouldn't have killed him
Mirage has to be on the field during the standby phase to discard. Since Jaden sacrificed it with Emergency Provisions it's no longer there before the standby phase, thus no discard.

TGS Anime needs to do a breakdown of this duel. If he had used Cursed Seal on Spark Blaster (lol, hear me out), Jaden would have had no way to take out Oxigeddon. Then Bastion could have summoned Hydrogeddon, attacked Burstinatrix, summoned another, used Oxigeddon to take out Sparkman, attack directly, and then summon his Water Dragon during Main Phase 2. Jaden would only have Bubbleman and Avian. Even if he had Mariner at that point in the series (his Extra Deck definitely expands as the show goes on), it could do a small amount of damage Bastion smashed into it with Water Dragon.
On the other hand, since Bastion doesn't know what's in Jaden's hand, I could see why he'd be reluctant to waste his ace card on a spell as trivial as Spark Blaster.
So you sit on a computer and do rocket science to figure out that polymerization is the common factor in all of his fusion summons. Wow, that was so hard to figure out.

I just noticed something so obvious, Bastion could've won if he attacked Clayman instead of Bladedge with his Litmus Doom Swordsman
Alas not. Skyscraper is kinda stupid in the Anime it gives all HERO monsters 1000 atk if they're weaker, not just when they attack so Clayman would have been at 1800 and Jadwn would have survived with 400lp plus then Bladedge at 2800 would have been too strong for Hyozanryu.
But what if he used his Wingbeat of Giant Dragons Spell first? well that would remove Last Magnet which would bring Doom Swordsman to 0 atk and we'd still be in the same final turn. The only difference is Jaden wouldn't have 1000lp to spare to ram Wildheart into Doom Swordsman and win with Cyclone Boomerang.

Bastion really got the shaft when they decided to shift the plot from “high school drama” to “cosmic horror” with an obviously shoehorned “our protagonist is actually a reincarnated ancient king so we can milk nostalgia for the original show”.

Burstinatrix is a warrior monster, not a pyro. So when Oxygeddon activated its effect when Burstinatrix attacked and destroyed it, Jaden should not have taken any damage at all. Bastion, I call shenanigans.
The effect activates on pyro monsters and fire attribute monsters..

Funnily enough, this caused Bastion to lose, because if had 800 more LP, Cyclone Boomerang wouldn't have killed him

Jayden cheated again in the duel, Mirage of Nightmare,s effect that he had dropp the cards in his next standby phase didn´t show up.
Mirage has to be on the field during the standby phase to discard. Since Jaden sacrificed it with Emergency Provisions it's no longer there before the standby phase, thus no discard.
