    Just bought one of these and used this video to set it up. This unit is actually nicer and more featured than some higher-end turntables I've seen. I'm quite pleased with it so far.

      Audio-Technica IS Positively Thee Best Quality & Value on the Market for Decades ! I’m a 70 Year Old Audiophile Who Began Listening EARNESTLY in 1956 After I Caught Elvis on The Ed Sullivan Show When I was 4 Years Old on My Brother’s Record Player ALL the Time and Haven’t/Never Stopped Since ! I Learned PROPER Record Care from my Cousin the TRUEST Audiophile EVER in the 1960’s When Component Systems Were JUST Being Developed ! LUCKY Me I Lived in Cambridge, MA Just a Few Streets Away From the Advent Speaker Company AND Factory Where THEE Henry Kloss of BOTH Advent AND KLH Was at the Helm of Each Company ! I STILL Have My Original 1st Year Large Advent Speakers in Near MINT Condition Having ONLY to Re-Cone ONE Woofer Over ALL These Years and I Used to Listen to My Music 🎶♥️🎶VERY Loud With Again NEVER Any Problems With the Exception of the Aforementioned ONE TIME Re-Coning, TRUE ! Plus I ALWAYS Ensured EACH Component Always had ABUNDANT Ventilation and STABLE Placement on My Original TEAK System Stand with FOUR Adjustable Areas BELOW its Top With also NO Doors or BACK Making it COMPLETELY Open to Prevent ANY Heat Build-Up ! It’s also SUFFICIENTLY Large to PREVENT Any Vibrations from Effecting the Turntable; AND Because I Became Such a HUGE Music 🎶♥️🎶Lover at a VERY Young Age I Began REGULARLY Collecting Records (LPs and EPs) That Back Then You Could Purchase for $2.39 NEW and 99% of My Collection are Truly MINT !!! Oh, and While I Followed, Bought and Saw MOST Great Bands Through the Years (Except Disco, UGH !!!) I Consider Myself VERY Fortunate to Have Lived in Cambridge and Boston as HUGE in LOVING Music 🎶♥️🎶 as We are in Sports BUT Music is Primary for Me; Boasting Here, My Uncle Was THEE Cello Player for The Boston Pops When ARTHUR FIEDLER Was the Maestro ! ROCK ON BECAUSE ROCKING DOES KEEP YOU YOUNG AND FUN LOVING, Thank God ♥️‼️‼️‼️

    You gave the invaluable information that I critically needed. At my former home my turntable was set on the “phono” setting in the back of the turntable. When I set it up in my new home, incorporating it with my new Sony stereo and 5.1 Dolby system, I was not getting hardly any volume. It was because I needed to set the turntable switch to “Line” setting, due to the RCA input I am now using on the back of the stereo. Now I have LPs playing at full volume. Thanks so much!!!

    Hi there, I have to say this is one of the best turntables out there, what you didn't mention was pressing the 45 and 331/3 rpm buttons allows it to play records at 78rpm. This is well worth the money! It's just ashame it's fully manual, and doesn't have an auto return, when the record finishes.

    • @MultiVinyljunkie
      @MultiVinyljunkie 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@the_hobbyist well, 78rpm records do have a much wider groove, and depending on how they have been cared for is reflected in sound reproduction. Some may sound really worn and hissy but, if you play the groove wall, you'll have a much clearer sound, ( I do this only when copying the record, but don't recommend for every day listening) even spraying the disc with water can improve sound reproduction. With later 78s' the groove is more compact but still require a larger needle ( the turn-over cartridge found on Danette's have a smaller needle for LP,(red) 16 & 33 1/3 rpm and a fatter one for standard play (green) 78 & 45rpm) ..Records made after 1973 tend to have smaller grooves and require a smaller needle (red) and with todays records the grooves are even smaller and much easier to damage, so a light weight Tone arm and stylus is preferred. In answer to your question, a 78 rpm record can damage your stylus, I tend to use a part worn stylus for this turntable, so I use a new one for vinyl and a part worn for 78s , unless you're 78s are mint condition (always mark the one you use for 78s) .. I've never experienced a stylus breaking through playing shellac but I wouldn't say it's not possible. As they rotate at twice the speed, a chip or deep scratch can 'chip' the tip of your stylus and therefore, will seriously damaged your vinyl. So, in conclusion, yes, it's possible 78s can break a stylus, and it's always best to use the right type of needle for all records but for shellac, it doesn't really matter. Tip, always hold a 78 with your middle finger under the spindle hole and the thumb on the edge of the disc. And hold around the edges of the record or use lint free gloves, because the oils from your skin can spoil the laquer finish and make the disc more brittle and encourage dirt and dust to settle in the grooves.

    One MAJOR omission on this instructional video!!! I had a similar problem that MANY others have as well, where my Windows10 recognizes the USB turntable, but Audacity doesn't recognize it. You show the switch on the back that is either Phono or Line, but you don't fully explain this switch. If you are trying to record directly to a PC, the switch must be on Line for the system to work. My guess is that Phono is for going through a preamp and into a stereo. Otherwise, I enjoyed this video.

      Having none of the mechanics inside a turntable for auto return and/or start, makes for a more quiet signal. All turntables need to be as quiet as possible so the cartridge does not pick up any added noise.

    Also have this table and wanted to add/point out: i had to get a different headshell when i mounted my MC cartridge because the stock one wasnt long enough to allow proper overhang (a used Air-Tight PC-1). I needed about another 2mm. So just a heads up that some higher end MC cartridges might need this swap. Also, i ended up bypassing all the internal boards and installing better RCA jacks at the rear and wiring the tonearm wires direct. It made a huge improvement. Not a necessary mod for everyone but in my system it really opened things up. Wished there was adjustment for Azimuth and VTA but for the price, i guess we get what we get ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . Been enjoying it since.

      The point of balancing the tone arm is just to ensure that when you set your tracking force it is accurate. It isn't meant to stay in that perfectly balanced state forever - just consider the first step in properly setting tracking force.

When I hook up the turntable to my laptop and try to digitize a record using Adobe Audition, there is a prominent high-pitched hum at the 1k, 2k, 3k, 4k and 5kHz level marks (and also the 16kHz mark, but that’s barely audible). This buildup can cause the turntable to resonate, creating feedback and distortion. Leaving the cover open also prevents skipping which can occur when the cover is lowered and raised during play. Thanks! - A-T USA

    plus this other set up states that weight should be the recommended 1.0 to 2.2 grams...........but here u say 2 and anti skating at 2. i ll try but gives give me a feed back on that. My main point is that I found a good balance when the counterweight was on zero already so I did not turn the number dial to zero anymore as it was already. and as you mentions here anti skating at 2. do you think is it theoretically ok? then i move to the practical part of trying it out bit i do not want to damage nor the cartridge nor the vinyl. cheers

    I have just bought this turntable today, actually the grey colour. I will connect it to a DENON STEREO RECEIVER DRA-335-A and a pair of vintage old Pioneer loudspeakers that have a great sound. I still have to buy a good pair of cables to connect the loudspeakers to the amplifier and need a 5 m long cable for each channel. What kind of cable do you suggest me to buy?

    working. i just would like to be sure to have correctly done the set up and arm balance etc. now my old Gerrard a more than 30 years old semi automatic Gerrard is still functional but this is a present from my wife. Being an oold rock metal punk head (but appreciates all good music to reggae soul dark electro etc) but not that much of an audiophile. cannot really say if the sound with the new turntable or the bew cartdrige is so much better than before (also depends on the speakers I guess here too I use 2 old JVC from my wife when she was young but not that much money to spend and during Covid times even less) U just really want to be sure that I have found the arm balance in the correct way (as mentioned below when I found it the number dial was by chance already on zero so I did not turn it anymore) then I set 2 as you suggest and snti skating at 2. just to be sure that set up is good for the cartdrige and the vinyl so they last in time as it lasted (and still works my old super old semi autimatic Gerrard a friend gave to me). thanks for helping me out!

    I have a question. My turntable is level, I balanced the tonearm and set
    the tracking force to 2. When the anti skating is set to 0 my tonearm
    works fine. I can drop it into the grooves and the tonearm doesn't sway
    at all. When I move the anti skating to lets say 2 where it should be,
    the arm sways. At 0 it's fine. Should I just leave it a 0?

    • @AudioTechnicaUSA

      Hi there! Antiskate is outward pressure placed on the tone arm to offset the centripetal force of the stylus in the groove of a spinning LP, which will pull the tonearm inward. When the antiskate is properly set and the tone arm is hovering it will always return to the tone arm rest. That is normal behavior. Thanks! - A-T USA

      @@russellleahy I ended up buying it, all you need is a set of powered speakers. If you buy a set of speakers that aren't powered (basically if the speakers won't plug into the wall) then you need to buy an amp to power the speakers, but the turntable has a built in PRE amp, so no amp is needed to power the turntable.

    Are there specific bluetooth speakers you recommend with this turntable? I just bought this turntable and a Marshall ACTON III bluetooth speaker for my son as a Christmas present. Overall I'm pretty happy with the sound, except the volume isn't as loud as I'd hoped it would be. It seems that I can get more volume out of that speaker playing songs on my phone as compared to the turntable. I called BestBuy and they suggested flipping the switch on the back of the turntable to 'phono,' which had the effect of muting the sound completely. Perhaps I'll just have to get him speakers with cables, but any suggestions to get more volume using bluetooth is appreciated. Thank you!

    • @AudioTechnicaUSA
      @AudioTechnicaUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! Yes you can. You will need to change your computer’s input settings to accept the signal from the turntable into the computer. The output setting will be set to your audio interface which will send the signal out to your audio interface and then to your speakers.
      You will also need to change settings in your computer to monitor the input signal. You may find helpful information on doing so here:
      www.audio-technica.com/en-us/support/audio-solutions-question-week-can-listen-usb-turntable-pc-speakers/
      www.audio-technica.com/en-us/support/audio-solutions-question-week-can-listen-usb-turntable-mac-speakers/
      Additionally, you can also connect the analog output of the turntable to your audio interface and (depending on your audio interface) engage the direct monitoring function which would allow you to send the audio from the turntable through your audio interface and out to your speakers. Be certain to engage the turntable’s RIAA phono preamp by putting the switch on the rear of the turntable to LINE. Thanks! - A-T USA

    I've seen several different videos on TH-cam about setting up turntables. The really entailed videos suggest using a tracking force pressure scale and, a protractor to insure proper alignment. Is all that really necessary? One thing I did notice when following your directions is that you might have to tweak the anti skate value slightly for proper centering on the record groove itself. If while playing an album you notice distortion the stylist is not directly in the middle of the groove. It's almost a kinda scratchy sound. I freaked out the 1st time I heard it. It was off an album that I had played dozens of times and, never heard it before.

      Hi Thomas! Following the detailed setup of the turntable in the video will ensure the turntable is properly configured and ready to play.
