    What some great finds, and a nice visit. I tried looking up that lp, Atomic Bomb Suffering, Animals Suffering, but found nothing. Any idea on the musician? I assume it's avant classical? Neat title tho, and cool cover too. Cool finds on those silver covers too.

      I still need to look more into that, from memory I only found one match online but it was all Japanese too so not helping me much. Will report back if I do.

    What a great adventure, Thijs. And those releases you picked up are…amazing. Some real treasures. I do recognize the sleeve designs on a few of them. Nice Ayler’s albums. I just picked up Spirit Rejoice myself on that same Italian label. Thanks for sharing. FYI. About 15 years ago I had a chance to go to Japan through my work. But I couldn’t take advantage of the opportunity as my son had just been born. Always wished I had taken the chance. Hope you’re feeling better. Enjoy the music. Shawn

      Oh man, no one’s going to fault you for choosing to stay with your son. But if you ever get the chance to go, I couldn’t recommend it enough.

    Wow Thijs, In-credible. And to get that credit and free night on the way home is indeed a giant cherry on top. You did the right thing of course snagging all those Japanese pressings. Great run of Hosonos and getting all those Prospectives lps (the silver GRMs on Philips) was a hell of a find. Japan was certainly on our list to get to, even more so now. I nice you were able to meet up with Brian / Tokyo Record Style. Hope you kicked that Covid!

      Yeah extremely happy with what I brought home for sure. And I could probably go back right now and take another 50+ records home of the same caliber. Doubt I’d get another overbooked flight on the way back though hah.

    Lucky of you to have found the Brotzmann FMP beauty at HMV Shinjuku. I was there approx 8 weeks ago, also found a number of gems but not that one. Well done! I love Japan!

    Nice, my plan was to hit up the Record stores in Japan this coming trip. Last trip I just went to Tower Records in Shibuya for CDs, but now I am looking for city pop stuff of vinyl

    jazz heavy haul, not surprising, there's a reason i still order often from japan. im actually thinking about doing a video specifically about the 4 records hosono put out on his monad label (you showed 2 of em) that are music for film and installations, good stuff. i cant do the humidity but do plan to visit at some point. amazing plot twist at the end!

    • @soundofminder
      @soundofminder  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Japanese jazz artists were also simply easier to find as they were mostly filed within jazz, whereas non jazz Japanese artists were filed in japanese/kanji sections and a lot harder to find for us alphabetians. Looking forward to that video. I’ll definitely go back, but in fall or winter time. #aircanada

    Tyce, you said you were going on a trip but Japan wow. You spent some major time in record stores, that is crazy. I take it you had them ship the records back to you otherwise your carry on would have been crazy lol. No idea about 90% of those groups but you were happy so I’m happy. Thanks for the additional footage of Japan

    • @soundofminder
      @soundofminder  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Steve! Nope, I brought them all back home. They don’t check weight for carry on so loaded it to the brim with some padding around. It didn’t all fit so I had to take some in suitcase too. Couldn’t have fit any more though hah. Once I’m clear of the covid, let’s make some plans to get together.

    Thanks for the video. Tons of stuff to look into. I'm curious about the logistics of getting that many records back home, especially when you didn't plan on acquiring that many. Did you have a travel crate, or just distributed them carefully in luggage?

    • @soundofminder
      @soundofminder  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey, thanks for checking it out. I had an empty carryon with me. But I got more than that (as one does) and ended up putting another 15 or so records in my main suitcase, like you suggested, distributed carefully and wrapped in clothes.

    I've been trying to carve our a little time to comment on this great video. Sorry it's taken me a while! I really appreciate the the shoutout and it was fantastic to connect with you, Thijs and your lovely Victoria! You two has such a nice vibe and lovely story (which I will try to recount the details of when I add you to Tokyo Record Style - and which I made need to hit you up again about). It's great to see you really going for it and not just exploring Tokyo's record scene but also Kyoto, Osaka, and beyond. Hope you'll consider returning again and we'll have more time to connect. By the way, I was really disappointed when you invited me to connect a couple of days after we had initially met. You'll remember I said "I'd love to but I've caught a nasty cold, possibly covid." So if your Covid woes were from me, all I can say is I'm deeply sorry, but then there is the possibility you shared them with me! Or perhaps we should say it was floating around the 6th floor at Tower Records and got us both. Who knows but I'll just say it was worth it, haha! Again, great to connect and thanks for the shoutout and the nice photos! Looking forward to staying in touch and to adding you to the Tokyo Record Style project soon! Until then, stay in touch, safe travels, and ODAIJINI (Get better soon!)

      Hey Brian! All good with the Covid, who knows where we got it from, just glad it only affected us once we got back. It hit Victoria more than me but we’ve been back to normal last few days. Hope you’ve been feeling better too. Definitely feel free to hit up either of us if you need more info or verify anything regarding Tokyo Record Style.

    Unsurprisingly, Bidule en ré, Eternal Echoes, Coincidental Music, Guild for Human Music, Metempsychosis, Zitro, Speed And Space, Balls, Sonic Arts Union, A Day Of the Sun, Now We Create, Breath are my picks. But I must say it is a major shame you didn't get the Balls with Obi... Disappointing
    Did I miss it if you did Disc Union and RecoFan in Shibuya?
