It is sad that I got more out of this video than in 3 lectures from my university professor. Some people really should not teach, thank you for being someone who is reliably good at teaching.
It was barely mentioned at our medschool university (just randomly inbetween something else) and then it popped up multiple times on the exam where we were just supposed to memorize a random enzyme at a certain step etc. It is fair to say that the majority is up for credit test as the first midterm was just as bad. I wish they tested us in understanding rather than pointless memorization.
im sure after few years ninja nerd science is going to be one of the most effective medical videos on TH-cam, the way you explain things we cant forget.
I am a Biochemistry student from Nigeria and I have benefitted stupendously from your videos. I can't for the life of me fathom how you developed these teaching skills. Thanks so much. Please do more.
I never comment on videos on TH-cam but I have to just to say this guy is amazing. I was ready to quit my course after my metabolism lecture as it made me want to cry. I left my lecture halfway through and then the following day I found these videos, and not only did I understand it all, I actually really enjoyed it. Thank you so much!!!!
I missed 2 weeks of lecture due to illness and this video cleared everything up!! So wonderfully organized!! Thanks to everyone in the comments making the small corrections too. You are all saving my grade
Don’t skip ads, or don’t skip the commercials, it’s they way also of earning money. At least we help them earn by not skipping the commercials, so they can make more videos in the future😍
A little note to take at 17:17 very important correction... it's unfortunate we can not draw diagrams in the comment section but I hope this piece helps out .. 😆😂😂 Ribulose 5-phosphate is first epimerized to xylulose 5-phosphate. Transketolase catalyzes the transfer of a two-carbon fragment from a ketose donor to an aldose acceptor .In its first appearance in the pentose phosphate pathway, transketolase transfers C-1 and C-2 of xylulose 5-phosphate to ribose 5-phosphate, forming the seven-carbon product sedoheptulose 7-phosphate . The remaining three-carbon fragment from xylulose is glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate.
This is my first ever comment on TH-cam...never felt the need to do it...but sir ! ..i am so thankful to you ...you are a gem of a person ...THANKYOU SO MUCH! ...thank you for making studying easier
Just wanted to tell you that the first time I tried to study biochimestrey for my exam I got 56..than I discovered your videos, study with them, took the exam again and got 100!!!!thank you so so much!youre a m a z i n g ! I still hate biochimestrey though lol...😋
Thank you I am a Physician who diagnosed couple of patients with trasaldolase deficiency that was named after my name “Eyaid syndrome” . Your great video is the best one to explain the PPP Wish u the best
I am studying in first year in a medica school in Romania and these videos are really helping me to understand biochemistry:)) I am very grateful to the author of the videos
your videos are exactly a masterpiece!!! the intonation is perfect and it's your art that you make the audience to company you through the lesson keep going please!
Kudos to Professor Zach for consistently delivering top-notch educational content! The clear explanations and engaging presentation make learning complex topics a breeze. Keep up the fantastic work!
Having G6PD deficiency I am fascinated by your complete breakdown of what would happen in my body without the deficiency vs what is happening. Awesome video! Also, I get like...shamwow vibes or something from this...."then you get this, what can happen what does this give you!?" (feel like I'm gonna win the prize), but I think that's why you kept my attention so well-played sir!
Great stuff! I am going thru ur biochem videos just for fun. I remember, as a student long ago, loving the maze of the various metabolic pathways. For each pathway, there three points that must be made and emphasized. 1. The key, rate-limiting enzymes/reactions. 2. The main purpose or role of the pathway. What primary purpose does it serve? 3. The net energy balance (yield or cost) You described the pathway and what it is good for beautifully.
All your videos are so relevant as I study for my RDN exam. Thank you so much for putting all these together and explaining the details as well as the big picture.
I wanted to say thank you for the amazing video and teaching skills which you posses. I simply could NOT pass my biochemistry exam today. I had the shortest time ever to cover the topics and your videos helped me achieve the understanding in the best condensed and effect manner possible. Thank you to the Ninja Nerd Science/medicine. And to Zack Murphy. Thank you so much. You were a God send! God bless!
Love your videos! Just a tiny correction: Xylulose-5-Phosphate becomes GA3P and Ribose-5-Phosphate becomes Seduheptulose-7-Phosphate in the reaction catalysed by Transketolase.
24:52 is where he explains the point of this pathway. Basically, there are two phases: (a) Oxidative Phase that can generate NADPH and Ribose-5-P. (b) Non-Oxidative Phase that makes Ribose-5-P without NADPH using glycolytic intermediates, and in reverse it can make glycolytic intermediates from Ribose-5-P. Note: Glyceraldehyde-3-P (GA3) in steps (5) & (7) can be funnelled into glycolysis or gluconeogenesis.
You do a great job! Thank you for the clarity. I'm a very visual learner and would appreciate at the end of your videos, if you could step away so the audience can see the entire board. Thank you again!
love the way you teach it. makes SO much more sense and you're very clear and very calm when speaking and makes it so much easier to understand this. THANK YOU!
This took my teacher 3 hours to explain and I still had no clue what he was talking about. Then Ninja Nerd comes and explains everything perfectly in 34 minutes 🥲
Thank you sooooo much. Mr.Ninja. Im on the first year of medical school. This makes me want to learn more, makes me feel like it good to know, it is super cool to understand. You just light up my world. Promise will be a good doctor.
Dude love your videos, i study medicine in argentina but everything is so easy to understand that it doesn't matter being in english, awesome man , saved my year!
Love your videos, very informative! Theres a slight error i feel you made though; its the xylulose -5-phosphate that donates the two carbons NOT the ribose-5-phosphate. The xylulose-5-phosphate is the donor ketose and the ribose-5-phosphate is the acceptor aldose which becomes glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate.
Love the text on the back of your shirt! You really are my Harper hero! 😂 For those who can’t relate, our reference for Biochemistry is a book by Harper and it’s just so hard to understand the concept just by reading the book alone. I just recently discovered your channel so now I’ll be here after every chapter in Harper. Thanks you your informative videos! Love from the Philippines 🇵🇭💕💕💕

In my biochemistry book the reactions are kinda different;
After ribulose-5-P becomes Xilulose-5-P + Ribose-5-P then i have these reactions:
>Xilulose-5-P reacts with the transketolase enzyme and TPP as a kofactor and gives -> glyceraldehyde-3-P + Glycoaldehyde radical.
>Then Ribose-5-P reacts with the glyceraldehyde radical and gives-> sedoheptulose-7-P
>Sedoheptulose-7-P reacts with the glyceraldehyde-3-P [transaldose enzyme] and gives-> eritroso-4-P + fructose-6-P.
I don’t know why though...
You are blessing us with your videos sir, i literally had no idea to learn biochemistry, thank you lotsssss
