  • This is an updated video to resolve some corrupted video feeds on the original.
After two months of waiting for my cylinders to be reworked and completion of its annual inspection, I got down to the process of breaking in the cylinders. The only question is who do you believe? The repair shop, the aircraft manufacturer, an experienced mechanic? It's a decades old process that continues to be debated. My goal for this episode is to share the goal for the break-in and why we need to do it. Plus, it gives us another chance to share the cockpit experience.

Interesting to see the engine failed shortly after installing new cylinders. Great job on the forced landing! Let us know what the failure was.

The failure was due to a bearing shifting and cutting off the oil supply.

I'm interest to know how you set up your GoPro so that you can film from the back. Thanks!

I've used a couple different mounts. At first I used a standard GoPro mount which was affixed to a piece of plexiglass that was screwed into the overhead speaker grill. That was a little too far back and ended up cracking the speaker grill, so I used a vise clamp that attached to the O2 hub in the ceiling. Then I discovered a Cirrus pilot that made a mount that actually clicks into the O2 port. Really works well. Others I have talked to have used a tripod they stand up just behind the center console. I have used an "octopus-legged" tripod mount and affixed it to the co-pilot seat. Lastly, I have used a suction mount on the sun visor, and articulate it in various positions to easily move change perspective. Long answer to a short question, but hopefully helps you get creative on a budget!!! BTW, I've also thought about using a shower rod behind the front seats and affix a vise mount to the rod.

So you ran the engine at 75 percent?

Poplar Grove's advise is non standard for sure. I wonder what other non standard ideas they have, in light of your engine failure.
