    I think the best part about the new party is that none of them are young, attractive heroes like we're used to in jrpg's. They're all middle aged normal people and that makes it more fun to me.

    I've been on a jrpg kick lately (currently playing through the Trails of Cold Steel series), but I've also been itching to get back into the Yakuza series after finishing Yakuza 0 just a few months ago. The fact that this game is what it is, and plays the way it plays, is an eerily perfect combination for what I'm looking for right now

    I'm only on Chapter 3 and I'm absolutely loving it!! So glad I picked it up... I'm loving Valhalla too, but I'm actually finding that I'm leaning more toward spending time with Ichi than with Eivor at the moment. And as a huge AC fan, that was completely unexpected, but also welcome. And I haven't even been able to get a Series X yet, so I'm playing on the standard Xbox One... If you're considering this game, GO FOR IT!!

    Yakuza's open worlds are never as expansive as something like GTA, yet they are still more interesting to me due to how many interesting things you can do in them. People keep praising GTA for how much there is to do in those games but besides the story campaign and stranger missions there isn't much to do besides driving and shooting. Sure there's tennis, triathlons and yoga of all things but i would only play them once and then just forget about them.

      @アーロンです Yeh because they don't know Japanese... that makes sense. The developers took the time to record an entire English cast, so that more people could enjoy the game in their native language. The "English dub LUL" crowd is quickly getting old these days.

      @BaneKeldare 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @アーロンです Or...and I know this is a strange concept to you, you could just...let people use whatever dub they like and not give them shit about it. Seems like an awful waste of energy getting mad at how other people play a game that they purchased.

  • @ovoon7
    @ovoon7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I'm 10 hours in, and have finished every previous entry including Judgment. I think there's a lot to love about it, the combat is great, characters are fun, and the themes of unemployment make for a great party dynamic. Plus the enemy designs are really silly and creative, and there's a whole bestiary with almost 200 enemy types.
    That being said, the game feels really slow, not just with longer combat and more encounters (which I'm personally ok with but some people wont like it). The story doesn't have much momentum and takes forever to get through a chapter.

    • @ovoon7
      @ovoon7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @アーロンです Yea I love long winded slow JRPGs. I feel like the cutscenes drag more than usual in this one, and the game seems like it was packed without them.
      Honestly I don't mind though, this game is 100% how I wanted it to be. I don't think it's nearly as polished as Judgment but it's really good either way.

    I get the sense this is the kind of game that you splap a 8.5 on because you're trying to be rational, and it's totally understandable... But deep down you *know* it will stay with you way, way more than pretty much any other game released this year so far. Kasuga and his group are easily Persona-level in charisma and feels.
    We'll see in the GOTY discussions between the Allies, but I'm betting Ben will push for Like A Dragon to be near the top of the list.

    I don't think the downgrade in combat complexity was delved into nearly enough here.
    Sure there's more STUFF you can do, but the demand at which the game expects you to know the mechanics are totally opposite to previous games.
    Seamless, continuous combat in which you slowly perfect a single fighting style sounds a lot more appealing than having 3+ classes per person interacting with 3 other characters with as many classes, but up against enemies who have no similar strategy as your own team.
    I guess it's all about preference, but obviously the gameplay is going to be sharper for a gameplay that a team has perfected over 2 decades.

  • @IIMIKEYMOII
    @IIMIKEYMOII 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The "fans" that are so angry at the combat change are willfully ignoring a great game. I've played about 6 hours now and I feel very neutral about the combat difference so far, but it's insane to me that this would completely ruin the entire game for some people. Especially because Judgement changed a lot about Yakuza but it still didn't necessarily feel fresh whereas Yakuza 7 feels entirely fun and fresh in so many ways.

      You can start with this one, no problem. It's kind of a soft reboot/a new beginning after a whole saga.
      You'll miss out on recognizing old locations shown in a new light here, as well as a ton of Easter eggs and references. For example, a lot of people from the past games' substories (side quests) reappear as "summons", on minigames, or on other side stuff. But to recognize them, you'd need to play at least Yakuza 0, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2, and that's dozens of hours just to get that sense of "hey! I remember that guy!" for a couple of minutes and then move on back to the core story.
      The main story, characters and all that are new, and Like a Dragon happens kinda in parallel to the past entries, which form a full arch up to Yakuza 6. So just dive in Like a Dragon and have fun. You can check the original saga after if you like it.

      @@50Personas I’ve seen gameplay of Yakuza 6, I wanted to try it back when I was on PlayStation but at that time the game was expensive and I was trying save money, the yakuza series look really good in terms of style, it’s kind of a shame for me that I never heard of the games until few years back when yakuza 6 was out. I guess because of the new lockdown in my country, now is the best time to play the games. I’m going to download the ones that I can for free through game pass. Thanks for the recommendation, I’m super excited and looking forward to play it. :)

      @@hamcookie2825 IIRC, Game Pass has Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami (a remake for the first in the series) and Yakuza Kiwami 2 (same for the second game). You could play these in that order, which would be the chronological order of the saga, but I recommend playing the Kiwami ones first and then going to 0. Zero is that kind of prequel that does capitalize on previous knowledge of the series, as it was released after 5 and casts at least one major character in a totally new (and very, VERY surprising) light.
      After these three, if you like them all, then you'll probably want to see the whole Kazuma Kiryu saga through, and there's a Remastered Collection with Yakuza 3, 4 and 5 on PS4. As the name says, these are not remakes, just remasters, so you'll feel the difference in engine, visuals and all. The Collection goes for 60 bucks, but I got it for 30 on that Big on Japan sale a couple months back. Then you have Yakuza 6 as a native PS4 game, the one that concludes the Kiryu saga. Note that 1 through 6 are direct sequels and it's kinda hard to play them out of order/in isolation.

      @@adelinobabic3378 Yeah, the difficulty spike is a like a huge jump 3 chapters before the last. But I also feel they did not want to make it too hard. But in any case, the other Yakuza games are not that difficult either, not sure if its because i have so much experience in playing fighting games like Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Street Fighter 3 Third Strike, entire Tekken and virtua fighter series and pretty much every fighting game. Timing, spacing, decision making and figuring out optimal damage came sort of natural for me really quick when playing the previous Yakuza games. But I mainly play these games for the story.

    Game is garnering a lot of positive reviews and it might best Yakuza 0’s reception in the West. The series has always been huge in Asian markets, but Yakuza 0 really helped the series gain many new fans in other parts of the World.
    Now I really wanted to play this, but the turn based combat turns me off. I’ve never liked this style of gameplay, since I was a kid. I hope this stays as a spin-off and this combat isn’t adapted to the main series.
