Hey Joe, awesome video! Could you do one comparing club data of the square against the GC3? There are a lot of videos comparing ball data on YT but no detailed ones comparing club data. I have the monitor sitting in the cart, almost ready to pull the trigger! Thank you 😊
Great video Joe, the square will be my pick for my move to indoor sim. I think the other companies are going to have to drop their subscription fees and prices. This unit will be a game changer
I think this unit really makes a compelling case… realistically for the average user to get a full Simulator experience at this price without subscription fee is kind of game changer…. This to me is essentially what the R10 was a few years ago except it’s a lot better. It has putting and can do chipping in saying me well.
Looks like a great unit. I currently have the mlm2 pro and it's great but might sell and go with square. For mlm2 pro I would like to see pc integration. Gsp pro connectabillity. Also square uses tpx 5 balls. I could get them locally instead of ordering. I'm sure square is going to get even better.i still have couple months see how rapsodo responds to what square is doing.
That was quick. Thanks Joe. Love to see the square ball vs GC3 as a couple had no reads on spin axis. I assume the backspin and spin axis would be more accurate to GC3 than the pix as Square have stated. Great result though for Square.
I would love to see the comparison with the square golf ball. Being so much cheaper, I personally would have no problem paying for the ball if the data gets even tighter and it’s goona save me a few thousand dollars!
Thanks Joe this is the video that I've been waiting for to put confidence into the shot shape that I am seeing in my practice. Now I can continue to work on my swing knowing that what I am seeing in my sim may show up on the course in the spring :) Thx Joe
Great Video as always Joe, Fills me with a lot of confidence knowing I will be receiving my Square once new shipment comes in to Australia from BAYSIDE GOLF, would be interesting to see the test done with Square dot balls. But overall I am feeling very happy I decided to replace to Garmin R10 with the Square, best regards Tim
Yet another superb video, Joe! If nothing comes up during PGA show that offers more than the Square for under £2K, I’ll be purchasing the square for sure.
Testing two photometric launch monitors side by side is no small task..great job! Really appreciate the detailed review. Do you think blank side spin is due to interference? it’s interesting that Square’s ball speed reads slightly higher than GC3’s, contrary to common belief. Can’t wait to see your comparison with the Square premium balls next. 👍👍
Thanks for the H2H, Joe! With these numbers, it’s hard to see how one of these units costs 10+x the other one. GC3 is (likely) a bit more accurate, but Square is proving to be formidable…especially at the price point.
Thanks Joe. Crazy how you can call your shots out. I think just practicing with the Square and no other monitor would be fun to see. You just say if you agree with what the Square reads compared to what you felt.
Id like to see square ball vs gc3. So far the company has impressed me. Quite a number of updates that just keep improving the overall experience. Can it be topped at the pga show. 😮
Hi Joe, A great comparison test, I am a Square user and lover! Honestly, for the vast majority of golfers (even the good ones) the Square is more than enough. I just cannot see why you would pay the huge difference in price for a minimal difference in performance. Perhaps if you wanted cameras to record club impact etc. you may. Who knows? The Square may add this too!
It certainly packs a massive punch for its size mate I completely agree. I think realistically if I was starting out and buying a launch monitor I would get this... I bought the r10 years ago as my first launch monitor and this would have been an incredible unit to start with. Realistically for me the next logical option if you have more cash is the Uneekor eye mini lite 👍👍
@@JLagGOLF I started with the R10 and the full Bayside enclosure about 2 years ago. Then moved to the MLM2PRO and now have moved to the Square, Each move was an enjoyable improvement. The Square putting has made SGT a really enjoyable test. If only I was younger and could hit it the required distance for a good score! I too like the Eye Mini but want to see what the new Nova really does and perhaps the new one from Brett is not too far away{?}. To be honest, I enjoy newer products and watching them improve etc. I don't mind a few hiccups along the way. The Square has certainly been one of the big improvers! Time will tell but for now it's the Square!
Thanks Joe for putting out great content. Im building my sim right now and I'm just waiting on my impact screen. I have been using the swing stick to play around with it while I wait which is pretty cool that they essentially throw it in for free. I need to order balls and I'll wait for your next video on GC3 vs Square with the square balls. Also, my friends use e6 still. Is e6 ready with the square yet? Looks like it reads fades well but the draws/hooks need some tuning still. Take care, Andrew
Another great video joe it would be good to see how the square dotted ball which to be fair I like performs against the gc3 love your videos keep up the good work
Hi joe meant to add the misreads on driver were the ball just goes about 2 yards I had the same problem tried raising the unit different tees to no avail then I noticed on my taylormade m6 I’ve got a silver strip run along the top so I taped it over with black tape and this has eliminated the misreads on driver hope this helps
Great video as always Joe. For an indoor sim, would you go with mlm2pro or the square? I feel rapsodo has to start stepping up their updates and start working a little harder to keep up with the square at this point.
for the everyday golfer out there... it's seriouslsy a great little unit. Obviously if you're a near scratch or a clubfitter etc you'd look elsewhere but for majority of us with the money you'd save, you can get a full package with enclosure, impact screen, mat etc for what you'd spend on the next tier of launch montior.
Great comparison video Joe. I know you have done a number of these with idea of using the units for playing sim golf rounds. For folks hoping to also use the SQUARE for swing improvement how does it perform compared to the mores expensive launch monitors like the R50 or GC3, especially since it doe stickers very differently
Hey Harris great question I'll have to actually do a video on it because I have used it and the club data you get is actually very impressive.. when I checked it on previous firmwares it's been very accurate and consistent. Annoying it doesn't do club speed though 😕 hopefully this is added in the future
Another great video Joe! TBH, if I didn't have an MLM2pro (and an ExputtRG), I'd be jumping all over this unit! However, although I'm sure that it'll keep improving, I still see too many misreads that could potentially derail a sim tournament round?... So, I think that if I ever upgrade, it'll have to be to a GC3 or similar. But I'm curious what's going to come out at the PGA show...👍
@ Yes, you’re absolutely right… 😉 and this is why I said that I’d be jumping all over it if I already did not have a MLM2PRO / Exputt combo… It would be silly for me to buy the Square when my current setup is already providing me data as close to a GC3 as there is (currently). In any case, like you and for my needs, I would not spend 7K (10K CAD$…) on a launch monitor. ;)
Hey Joe, how would this unit be for hitting with both lefties and righties? Would it be feasible to hit over it from one side or would you need to move it between shots? Thanks
I have heard of people doing this but for me it's a little unit but tall enough to be hit 🤣 you would want the leftie hitting over it to be very consistent and know their swing 🤣🤣
Just played my first round on my Square LM this past weekend and absolutely loving the addition of PIX balls and Awesome Golf. Do you know if premium balls with square pattern stickers will read more accurately than PIX?
From what I’ve tested, there’s very little if any difference. The problems I’ve had with getting g the stickers on evenly and sticking well don’t make it worth it for me to use the stickers anymore.
Different price points and different units really.. the R50 is INCREDIBLE for data tbh. In all my testing it was on par with the gc3... Very impressive. So if you want something that is going to be insanely accurate and easy to use the Garmin isn't a bad option. It's just the putting.... The square is FAR superior with putting so really for a home simulator experience it's great. You will get the misreads though.
If you are good enough to hit the ball and call distance and spin you may need a GC3 or better, but unless you have real golf ability, the Square is just fine for most recreational golfers and their budget! Since I got mine over 3 months ago, it has only gotten better with every update, well except the 9.8 connector, it was bad, LOL I am using non marked balls, set to standard and 5% and right on my number. For my game the Square is just fine!
Nice Video!! The faster the ball speed, the more affected by infrared interference. This is because the number of balls measured is small. Without GC3, the data on square would be better.
I am definitely seeing more missed shots with the pics vs the dotted balls... some shots are just plain wrong, like a flushed 7iron expecting a draw going 45deg straight right. Still amazing but I have noticed a difference.
That's just different algorithms calculating carry in the software, the measured data is very good and more similar. You can use the Square to connect to GS Pro then it would be the same and the most accurate if you consider the GS Pro physics to be the best which many do.
For pure accurately and nothing else in my opinion the mlm2pro is the winner. However there are a lot of limitations with that unit. If you want something that is going to give you an indoor simulator experience the get the square. If you want something you can use indoors and outdoors to really work on your game get the mlm2pro
Hopefully they keep the gspro connection free. That's what draws me to this launch monitor. No subscription fees is the key. I'd rather pay $1500 for this monitor with no fees than them introduce a subscription.
I find it interesting the numbers are all pretty spot on but carry numbers were pretty off. 7 iron was 7-8 yards off on average and you had some that were ten yards different with driver
Carry numbers are being calculated by different software though, the Sqaure app for the Sqaure and Gspro for the gc3. Differences between their algorithms most likely. The best test would be using both LMs, sqaure ball, both with Gspro. Would need two PC's for that tho haha
PLEASE. stop with the Gc3, we all know it interferes with the square, it’s been done a hundred times in a row, please go get a radar only trackman, and use OG square balls. It’s like everyone on YT refuses to do the right test on the square, that’s all we want!
Hey mate it has the potential to cause interference is very different from it will cause interference. This is one of many tests that I do to get an understanding of how a unit performs. It's not a one test and done.. if you would like to find the channel with a trackman I would be more than happy to do that test. But for what it's worth I wouldn't trust a trackman 4 indoors for ballflight. It has been proven to not correctly capture spin axis in an indoor environment due to the limited ballflight and the fact the unit uses a camera to estimate where on the club face the ball was hit and then add a gear effect algorithm to the ball flight. So unfortunately that test isn't as simple or as finite as you think it would be... Infact it's the opposite.
I saw some pretty large carry distance differences which tells me someone's algos are off. Likely Square. Also, being a QED owner who has seen a lot of people say Pix work great.....NO!!!! They are not reliable for QED and they do not seem to be reliable here on square. You had side spin get missed or ger misread on a bunch of iron shots. And some wonky backspin on a few. Maybe they can fix the ball detection to better read Pix but I know Uneekor has tried and has failed. I will agree that for casual play or people who do not care, Pix will be fine. Playing an online tournament, I would not use them. I appreciate the test here but all it shows is that the misreads are there and that results in poor data. At least for now.... I am still shocked at the carry numbers though....some big differences.
@ Doubtful. Uneekor is one of the few companies that is constantly developing and trying to improve. They even write custom code for us to try to get things to work. It is not a lack of resources . I don't know why people jump all over these new devices thinking they are the next gold standard yet have zero history on support and updates. look at Garmin, a well known compnay, who put out the R50 to reviewers drooling over it. Only to find out, you cannot putt with it unless you go third party cameras. Oh, and all that talk about not needing a computer....right, unless you want to play a real sim and not their included video game. I actually like this channel's content but lets not ignore the fact that the shots on screen had lots of misreads or questionable data. And I do not know if the guy has incentives here to sell square but keep that in mind if he does.
@@ZnOxide Uneekor has one of the most robust development teams that will write custom codes for people and has been in the market around the world for years. People in the industry that have met them know this and trust them. It's not a resource issues. Let's not pretend that the shots in this video had lots of misreads or bad data. It was pretty clear and looking at one or two stats but ignoring others (like side spin was close but actually on opposite directions) which is a big deal. And I think the content creator is an affiliate so his job is to market this. The average golfer is not buying a Lm. The average golfer barely plays. And if they want to get better, they want something accurate. Will this get there? Who knows. We actually have r had time to test their support and resources. Look at garmin with their r50. Everyone jumped all over it like it was gold. Only to find out you can barely putt with it. For the price, that thing should have been solid. Any updates for that yet?!
Great test. It reinforces my view that there's nothing to touch the Square for value for money as long as you don't need outdoor use.

@ I didn’t realize they might still have enough engineers developing on dot pattern models. GL!
